Wayne McCoy

Wayne McCoy was a founding member of Casa di Cavalieri. He served as the Brotherhood's horseback combat expert as well as stable master for the pack's horses.

He was notably the first Mentor of the pack, as well as a former member of the council. He was best friends and mates with Dixie-May Jackson before she disappeared, and he briefly found a new love in Sebastian Auditore. However, in summer 2014, Wayne left to be with his children by Chevelle Dallas: Annie, Cody, John, and Cassidy.

1.  Appearance

Wayne is a wolfdog hybrid with clear doggish traits, such as a square muzzle and half-flopped ears. He has a sturdy build, horse's neck brown eyes, and dusty, yellowish-grey fur. He wears an old cowboy hat and torn denim jeans.

1.1  Build and Species

Wayne is equal parts wolf and dog, but he very much takes after his Labrador heritage. His build is large and muscular, with the thick, coarse fur of a wolf -- but he has a less tapering muzzle, a slightly pronounced brow, and ears that flop over at the tips. Additionally, he has webbing between his paws. His tail is carried like a dog's, but he doesn't have the typical "otter tail" of his breed; it is instead more bushy and wolflike.

Wayne is reasonably tall, broad-shouldered, and toned overall -- not quite a bodybuilder but with the definite muscle mass of someone used to working their entire life.

1.2  Coloration

Wayne is a base dusty Dawn (#A6A496) with more yellowish Arrowtown (#998D69) streaks and highlights. His hair in Optime is a scarcely lighter Mongoose (#B8AA8B), and he has dogs' Jambalaya (#5D3A11) eyes.

  • Large, with a very doggish face but more hybrid build.
  • Wayne uses this as-needed, such as for non-riding travel over long distances.

  • Giant, almost bear-ish. More square structure overall, but wolf-coated.
  • Wayne favors this form for hunting large game.

  • Tall and broad-shouldered, with toned build and human posture. Hair messy but kept short.
  • This is Wayne's default form, especially needed for tasks revolving around horse care.

2.  Personality

Wayne emanates that "tough, quiet cowboy" demeanor and doesn't bother to change it. He may come across as intimidating because of this; he's naturally a man of few words at first and has a guarded look. He isn't unfriendly, however, and has no problem chatting with someone as level-headed as he is; he's simply a bit socially awkward and content with silence. Wayne is very dutiful to his pack and has a soft spot for horses and young Luperci.

Due to the heavy workload and other stress in his life, including losing his mate Dixie-May, the cowboy has been more withdrawn and weary. He grew a bit more light-hearted during his brief friendship with Lowry, but is still quiet and prone to periods of melancholy.

3.  Relationships

Key Relations

  • Sebastian Auditore is Wayne's closest friend, and his lover. Wayne has always made special allowances for Sebastian, and the two have carried each other through difficult times. After a night of drunken intimacy, Wayne came to terms with the fact that he is in love with Sebastian, though both fear being tied down. They are in an open relationship.
  • Jazper Rhiannon-Knight is the respected pack leader, and Wayne's long-standing comrade and friend.
  • Alistair Callow-Knight is given a lot of respect and consideration in the pack as well.


  • Annabeth de Fonte was Wayne's apprentice. Though they had a rocky relationship, Wayne eventually realized he wasn't teaching her what she wanted to know and adjusted. He is still fond of her and very encouraging of her pursuits.
  • Chevelle Dallas is a horse thief Wayne caught in the act. She was his "prisoner" for a while, though eventually they began to warm up to each other. However, when Wayne pressed her about joining Casa di Cavalieri, she decided instead to leave -- but not without giving him one final proposition, which the male reluctantly accepted.

Former Relations

  • Adelle Vilhelmsen was Wayne's first apprentice. He taught her much of what she knew about horses and other life lessons as her Mentor. She left the pack to fight evil on her own, and Wayne remains proud of her.
  • Dixie-May Jackson was his best friend from the south. They joined the pack together and became mates when Wayne confessed his love to her, but the relationship was stagnant and Dixie disappeared shortly thereafter. Recently, Dixie returned after escaping from slavery, but her stay was short. Wayne feels weak bitterness toward her, and himself for caring so much.
  • Lowry Lykoi was a kid that Wayne took under his wing in the pack, although Lowry eventually proved to not be up to the challenge of being a Cavalieri. Wayne gifted him his colt, Bark, and tries to keep in touch with him though he's joined Cercatori d'Arte instead.
  • Brandy Mae is a country girl that Wayne likes a lot -- though he doesn't want to pursue a serious relationship, only enjoying her company when he can. He is disturbed by the similarities to Dixie-May and uses Brandy as an ego-boost when she is obviously obsessed with him. He does genuinely care about her to an extent, but his past makes it impossible for anything to result, and so it can be (rightly) argued that he's leading her along.

4.1  General

    • Deep, rather gruff voice with southern accent.
    • Soft in volume and reticent in general.
  • Quirks, Gestures, Etc.: Fidgeting with his hat. AND SCOWLING.
  • General Posture and Body Language: Wayne carries himself with more humanized posture, but his body language tends toward very introverted, often with a hunch to his shoulders, crossed arms, and a good proximity between himself and others.

Anything beyond the okayed assumptions, PM and ask first. Casa di Cavalieri members may assume the following:

  • Seeing Wayne around Casa di Cavalieri, esp. border patrols and hunting.
  • Seeing Wayne riding, training, and taking care of his -- and the communal -- horses.
  • Horse-owners can make assumptions that Wayne has cared for or trained their horses, but I would prefer to be kept up to date on this. ;3

4.5  Abilities


  • Horsemanship: A cowboy through and through, he is skillful with horses -- whether it comes to riding them, caring for them, or capturing them. He is used to being around horses, having grown up and traveled with them, and his current duties in the pack involves taking care of the animals. Oddly, he hasn't learned low speech, but he's picked up on the cues enough to understand each horse as an individual and get the gist of what they want or need, just not what they say.
  • Wrangling: Wayne can wrangle horses, cattle, and just about about any animal he needs to. This includes the ability to work with a horse in order to capture critters, as well as his good skill with a lasso. This is also a benefit when it comes to hunting large prey such as elk; he's beginning to learn how to do it involving ropes and horseback. He is also decent at wrestling smaller animals, such as pigs and sheep, to keep them pinned and calmed.
  • Handiwork: Though he might not be able to make things from scratch, he works well with wood and rope. He can usually figure out how to fix things after some tinkering, provided it isn't too complicated. Notably, he has helped salvage a wagon and get it into good working order. This skill might extend into more proper carpentry if he works with it.


  • Social Skills: Wayne is capable of being a friendly and nice guy, but more often than not he's pretty awkward around others. The best way to get him to open up is horses, obviously, but without that similar ground, he can be a curt and reticent fellow that isn't that great to hang around with. He's also somewhat oblivious to some emotional cues.
  • Depression: Since Dixie-May left him and the pack, Wayne has struggled with depression. He isn't overtly sad or angsty, but he gets tired a lot and has a melancholy air about him. His loss has prevented him from reaching out to others, and leaves him withdrawn.

Wayne is always on the lookout for a trade, and will drive a hard price for goods -- only to make sure he gets the best out of the deal, but not to really screw anyone else over. He can be charitable when offered a sad story, however.

6.  History

6.1  Pre-'Souls

Wayne was born in New Mexico, to a yellow Labrador father and a timber wolf mother who fell in love with the gruff country man. Their son quickly learned his way around horses and cattle, growing into a diligent worker with southern gentleman manners.

His parents were nomadic, as was a trend for canines down south that didn’t have permanent homes, and they traveled to Texas when he was young. For a week they stayed with a family near the border of Louisiana—the family of Dixie-May Jackson. Immediately, Wayne was infatuated with the girl. It was painfully obvious to everyone except for Dixie-May herself, it seemed, and he was approached by the girl’s parents about it. It seemed that he had nothing to fear, as his hard-working temperament and commitment gained their trust. He remained with the family when his parents moved on.

Later, Dixie approached him with wishes of going off and exploring. Nomadic by nature, he saw no problem with it, and eventually the girl’s parents agreed as well. He also thought that their friendship might build, being alone with her—as his infatuation had never died away. In the three months it took to reach Canada, it only built until he began to feel real love for her.

And then -- Dixie-May and Wayne crossed the mountains into Nova Scotia.

6.2  2011

  • August: Wayne and Dixie-May reach Nova Scotia. They obtain a mountain lion pelt (courtesy of an attack), a new mare named Queen, and an old wagon. They meet Saul Stormbringer and receive stud service for Wayne's horse, Gypsy by his stallion Hermes. Gypsy is sent off to Ichika no Ho-en for until she gives birth.
  • September: Queen is gifted to Sky Rhiannon, but they obtain a new mare, Fern. She is heavily pregnant and drops a healthy colt, Bark.
  • October: Wayne and Dixie meet Jazper Rhiannon-Knight, as well as other future Casa di Cavalieri wolves. The group settles on a good piece of territory the cowpokes discovered, and the pack is officially founded. They quickly get to work cleaning up Fort Kingsbury.
  • November: Wayne runs into issues adjusting to pack life, especially as Dixie-May grows more independent. He tries to help the pack by participating in a hunting event, and gets injured killing a wild pig. He also grows somewhat distant from Dixie-May, who leaves on a mission and neglects to tell Wayne about it. He starts to venture out and meet other Luperci, including a fellow horse-lover named Alder.
  • December: Dixie-May returns, and Wayne initially receives her coldly. Following a one-sided argument, Wayne finally kisses her and confesses his love, which Dixie reciprocates.

6.3  2012

  • January: Wayne works toward his Cavallo, or stablemaster, co-rank. He becomes more independent from Dixie and more active in the pack, also attending the Winter Festival.
  • February: Wayne is sent on a mission to Ichika no Ho-en, to be trained by warrior X'yrin Exultare. Shortly after returning home, Saul comes to visit and gives Wayne a very pregnant Gypsy as well as his own brood mare to take care of while he's without a pack. Later, Wayne becomes the first Mentor in pack history to apprentice Adelle Vilhelmsen.
  • March: Wayne utilizes his new fighting skills by defending Casa's herd from raiders. He is promoted to Sinistra, but a new shoulder injury plus the stress of his new duties causes him to become moody and withdrawn. In spite of this, he finally asks Dixie-May to be his mate.
  • April—October:
    • The stress of his rank, co-rank, mateship, and everything else builds. Wayne requests to be demoted from Sinistra to a normal rank, hoping this will alleviate some of the stress. He works in the background, withdrawn from the pack, and becomes depressed.
    • His relationship with Dixie-May begins to decline. He feels that they haven't truly advanced from friendship, and is conflicted as he pushes her for basic duties of mateship. Their relationship gets a bit rocky, and Wayne starts avoiding Dixie to ease the pain of his feelings around her.
    • Wayne decides to confront Dixie about their relationship, bringing a wedding band as a gift with the desire for their mateship to work. He discovers that Dixie-May has left Casa di Cavalieri without explanation. He chooses to stay behind, working toward a recovery from this sudden loss.
  • November: Wayne helps accept Lowry Lykoi into the pack.
  • December: Life starts to return to normalcy. Wayne develops an odd friendship with Lowry, playing the part of his teasing and gruff mentor, while he sees the youth has taken a shine to Bark. He notices that Lowry is struggling adjusting to pack life, becoming flighty around their comrades, and tries to coach him into training and advancing his rank. Lowry mostly helps with the horses instead, bitterly complaining about his expectations.

6.4  2013

  • January:
    • Wayne continues his attempts to help Lowry, though he still only helps with the horses. Eventually, there is an incident outside of Casa di Cavalieri; a bear kills a girl, while Lowry freezes up. Lowry cannot cope with what happened, and tells Wayne that he isn't good enough for the pack. Wayne gently supports him in his desire to leave, and gifts him the colt, Bark.
    • Wayne attends the Casa di Cavalieri and Cour des Miracles tourney, although he only watches the participants fight and does not stay for every long. During this time, he comforts Sebastian Auditore and grows closer to him.
    • Tensions start to enter Wayne's life. First, Anathema members come brazenly to Casa's borders and demand apology for an apparent transgression, but Wayne and the other Cavalieri drive them away. Later, Lowry is assaulted by Machidael Lykoi after being charmed by him. Wayne saves him and learns that he's staying in Cercatori d'Arte.
  • February: Wayne has sex with a d'Artisan, Kenna Foxleigh, who is in heat -- and tries to come to terms with this, though the two part as awkward friends. Knowing that others like Sebastian are going north to the slavers in Salsola, he takes up training to fight with a club; he's relieved when the group returns.
  • March: Casa di Cavalieri marches on Anathema, but violence is avoided.
  • April:
    • Wayne heads to The Outpost and obtains an abused horse that he hopes to rehabilitate and offer to Casa di Cavalieri's use as a whole. He also discovers a feral cat living in the territory and offers it a home in the barn as a mouser and companion for the horses, like the abused gelding. He also trades with Dieter Kohler for a communal mare.
    • Dixie-May Jackson returns from months of slavery and abuse, and Wayne tries to cope with her presence and that of her few-month-old son, Leland. He seeks out Sebastian to try to deal with his emotions, and ends up sleeping with him out of affection and a desperate need for comfort. When he sobers up, he more or less avoids Sebastian.
    • Another Mentorship Ceremony rolls around, and Wayne is paired up with the brazen and bratty Annabeth de Fonte as his apprentice.
  • May: Wayne bonds with his apprentice, Annabeth, after she shifts. He also helps another pup, Isla Garcia-Knight, with her own attitude problems by lending her an ear.
  • June: Wayne is commissioned by Jazper to find a horse for his high-ranked adoptive son, Alister Callow. He later socializes at a clambake for the pack, which he contributed to by helping build the reserve for the sea creatures.
  • July:
    • Wayne heads back to The Outpost to stud Fern with a Svantevit stallion. He also obtains two new communal ponies from Cheval Island.
    • Sebastian confronts Wayne to talk about his feelings. Afterward, Wayne throws himself into his work again, working hard to train the horses and himself for a future rank in the Brotherhood.
  • August:
    • Wayne joins the Brotherhood as the Animale. He seeks Sebastian out and confesses his love for him, though both are afraid of being tied down and opt for an open relationship.
    • Chevelle Dallas attempts to steal one of the pack's horses, but is caught in the act. Wayne later seeks permission to keep her as his prisoner. The following day, Brandy Mae finds Wayne and the two spend a night of passion together. Wayne only belatedly realizes he is neglecting his apprentice, Annabeth, and the two work on fighting skills before Anna's First Blood.
  • September: Casa di Cavalieri has a conflict with pirates led by Jackson Bouchard, who betrayed the pack. Wayne injures his shoulder in one of the attacks, but he still works hard to make sure his pack mates are safe. Later, Chevelle reunites with her brother, Dodge, but ultimately decides she won't leave the pack for him.
  • November: Wayne starts working on training some animals for pack mates, as well as training his apprentice, Tennyson Knight.
