Synopsis

A disappointment, disgraceful, an imperfect Ardoix - Bérenger Ardoix (beh-rAAN-jshay ar-dWAH) spent the formative and young months of his life striving for excellency and impossible standards set by his mother, Sofia. Born alongside two siblings, Solène and Laurent, the trio of affluent bastards lived a somewhat lavish life in the lap of the Ardoix household, with plenty of overlap with close Braithwaite allies - at least, at the surface level. Beneath this idyllic exterior, the siblings grew up embroiled in resentment, nurtured by an almost cutthroat nature of competition vying for their mother's favor. Where this drew Bérenger and Solène somewhat closer to one another due to their shared chagrin within Sofia's eyes (and bonded over a mutual irritation over the obviously spoiled Laurent), they nonetheless bickered ceaselessly once outside of the public eye.

Born faulty, Bérenger is plagued with thoughts of inadequacy.

He and his brother share many attributes - similar middling size, weight, acuity - and yet, he has never quite been able to measure up to the lofty expectations of his mother, and forever seems to dwell in the shadow of his slightly younger, and seemingly untouchable brother, Laurent. He has grown bitter and resentful of this, yet his determination to be something more than a miserable failure has outfitted him with a staunch sense of independence and an at times crippling ethic to prove himself.

Burned by the lack of recognition, and dreading the idea of being left alone with Laurent should his sister leave, he hovers by and listens to Solène's plans of departing for Del Cenere.

1.  Characteristics

1.1  Appearance

General Physical Appearance

To put it plainly, Bérenger is nothing remarkable. He's of average size, of average build, of average strength, of average endurance - much to his own anguish, he wrestles on the daily with the mold he was all but poured into. If Sofia is not the one tearing him down, he does a fine job of doing it himself, regardless of the more admirable lines of his breeding. He carries favorable coloring amongst Ardoix, though a little on the cooler side of the scale of neutral tones.

Bérenger possesses long, bristly whiskers that he can't seem to tame. His fur comes in varying shades of grey, darkest from the top of his head to the base of his pitifully short tail, and curls at the ends. His muzzle is lighter and his paws nearly white, and he has a distinct white patch of fur on his chest. His eyes are a pale olive-green, and he sports noticeably thick brows. He is almost exclusively in Optime form at all times even when shifting would be beneficial to him.

He keeps his claws trimmed and filed and always has a small comb with him in case of 'emergencies'.

Born with a slim, manky tail, the brittle appendage broke early into his life. As such, it has been removed, leaving Bérenger with a stub, the likes of which he is deeply, deeply self conscious of.

  • Body Language, Posture & Quirks: Firm, calculated, and somewhat standoffish. Possesses an underlying, nervous energy about him. Very obviously tries very hard.
  • Speech: Can speak some passingly conversational french, but is not wholly fluent. Carries some affectations to creole pidgin. Speaks succinctly, and firmly, but fumbles over his words when distressed or irritable. When in such a state, he sighs frequently and sounds exasperated.

1.2  Personality

Bérenger can probably be summed up in one word: average. There's nothing special about him, and he knows it. Up until now, he's been desperately trying to change everyone's perception of him, and his efforts are painfully, laughably obvious. Growing up consistently compared to his mother and his siblings and unable to live up to them regardless of how he tried, he's become highly self-critical and stubborn, determined to prove himself independently even if it makes his life harder. Most of Bérenger's struggles in life are self-made, most challenges he faces entirely his fault alone or made unnecessarily more difficult by the way he insists on tackling them. This lends itself to being easily frustrated and annoyed, and he often struggles to see the bigger picture or put situations into proper perspective.

He is capable enough for his independence to work on paper, though his age and social standing and need for praise and recognition have him firmly planted where he is. He is earnest and means well in most scenarios to a naive degree and has the tendency to be highly influenced by those he seeks approval from or looks up to. Youth clings to him like a burr, making him impulsive and prone to being brash in both tongue and action. When corrected or helped he can be gracious and polite, once he gets over himself.

I am under a Moderate contract.

  • Character must stay in Del Cenere Gang indefinitely.
    • Upon joining, the character will be ranked Encender, as any new recruit.
  • Character has on-board relationships:
    • On-board family relationships are not yet developed, however, it's anticipated that Bérenger may have a somewhat rocky or uncertain relationship with his siblings at the start.
    • Relationships may be colored by comparisons drawn between him and his siblings by his mother, Sofia Ardoix.
  • This Character is still young, as such, they have some constraint pertaining to their age:
    • Impulse decisions are expected of young characters! There is plenty of room for growth, learning, and development.
    • Puppy-crushes are expected - however, full-blown romance or intimate entanglements should be avoided until the character has matured (18+ months).
    • Lack of refined skill - this character may have passing knowledge in a subject, but has not fully developed this knowledge into set skills with utility, and will need to practice.
