Gambling was a way of life for Dino. He intended to have an easy life, but it was anything but. When his mate couldn't seem to have children, he jokingly bet his firstborn on a game. Then he found out that his mate was pregnant. He hoped that keeping quiet would keep the trouble away, but this was not the case and they came for his daughter.

Given a choice: to join and fight for them, after which his daughter would be released, or to refuse and have his daughter sold to slavery, Dino (upon firm prompting from Narexis) agreed to fight for a cause he didn't believe in. His brother, Theirn Blackjack, agreed to fight with him for fear that this would finally be the death of Dino.

2.  Personality

While not necessarily lazy, Dino is not a driven canine, either. He's not interested in power or prestige; rather he's just interested in living comfortably without having to work too hard at it. His wants are simply: a mate and a family that are cared for while still having time to have fun. He has a penchant for gambling and is not the most reliable canine around. When push comes to shove, he'll do his best for those who need him, although his best is not always enough.

3.  History

Dino never wanted power or control; what he aspired to was having an easy life. His brother, Theirn Blackjack, was the one who was more driven, more mature, more everything their parents wanted. Dino just wanted to be happy and have some fun. That fun came in the form of gambling. Unfortunately he was not particularly good at gambling, but even after finding a mate, Narexis Blackjack, he did not stop. It was an addiction by this point, but one he did not recognize. Despite his happiness with his mate, what he really wanted was what he saw as a complete family with children. Unfortunately, this did not seem possible, and eventually he gave up on the notion.

Since he no longer had hope of children, he jokingly included his firstborn child as part of a bet. Then it happened: Narexis was pregnant and gave birth to a daughter. Terrified, he hoped that if he said nothing, the canine he made the bet with would simply forget, and for a little while it seemed that it would be the case. Then the stranger came to their door, demanding that Dino make good on the bet, and his daughter was taken away.

In order to get her back, he could fight for the group. If he did not, his daughter would be sold into slavery. He and Narexis decided to fight, and Theirn agreed to help in order to try to get his niece back and keep Dino alive.

4.  Skills

  • Education and Learning: this was learned largely through trial and error, although the games he gambles during were taught to him by friends and acquaintances.
  • Dice Games (Journeyman): he's alright at certain dice games, although much of it is guesswork.
  • Cards (Journeyman): Dino is a bit better at cards than dice games, but still not the best.
  • Some days Dino does really well and others, not so much since most of what he does is completely up to chance. He has been known to win a lot and then immediately lose it all.

  • Education and Learning: he was taught a little by his parents and brother, and also learned through necessity
  • Hand-to-hand (Journeyman): due to getting into fights over betted games, Dino was forced to learn how to defend himself.
  • Daggers (Apprentice): he can manage to not hurt himself with the daggers for the most part.
  • With some formal training, Dino is alright, but he fights out of necessity and desperation and is therefore not all that honed in his skills.
