This character is open to adoption under a Relaxed Permanent Contract. You have free reign to choose, edit and modify any of the traits listed here, or even the design of the character itself. Once you claim the character as yours, it's yours, and you are free to put them up for adoption to someone else at any time. If not, you may drop, kill them off, or NPC them as you please. All I ask for is a vague outline of what you plan to do with this character so I can pick a good first fit.

Adopters, once they have claimed the character, will have the following perks:

  • A reference sheet
  • A resized reference sheet
  • A full-size and resized (avatar-size) mugshot
  • A picture of all the pixels for this character (with a transparent background)
  • The individual pixel icons for this character (with transparent backgrounds)
  • The hex codes for the character's color design

If interested, please contact Dale via PM on their Dogmeat account.

1.  Possible Character Names

This is, by no means, an exhaustive list. They're simply ideas for an adopter to look at if they can't think of a name they like for this character.

Male:

  • Asterius: A Greek name meaning "starry" or "starry one" that belongs to various figures in Greek mythology. These include the Minotaur, another son of Minos, an attendant of the star god Astraeus, a prince slain by Hercules, and one of Jason's Argonauts.
  • [M] Loras: The name of a knight in GRR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire saga and brother of Margaery Tyrell, the new queen of Westeros.
  • Mydas: Stylized spelling of Midas, the name of a Greek king most famously known for turning everything to gold with his touch and later having a pair of donkey ears.

Female:

  • Anthousa: A Greek name meaning "blossoming" that comes from the name of a Greek version of Rapunzel.
  • Cicurina: The feminine form of an Ancient Roman cognomen (surname) that means "mild" or "gentle".
  • Lyonors: A variant of the name of a fair lady from the tales of King Arthur. She was rescued by her sister, Lynette, and the nephew of King Arthur, Gareth of Orkney, from the Knight of the Red Lands.

Gender-Neutral:

  • Jyoti: A Hindu name meaning "light".
  • Lior: A Hebrew name meaning "light for me".
  • Roshan: A Persian name meaning "light" or "bright".

3.  Personality

This character is a product of their surroundings, and is ignorant of a world where backstabbing and a dictatorial hand aren't the norm. They were raised in a place full of politicking and manipulation, either used as a pawn or groomed to become a future manipulator themselves. They have a cold, calculated and ruthless streak, but it's very much done out of reluctance and they're seeking to become a better person. Though frigid at first, they genuinely want to open up to people and be warm, but don't know how to act or function outside a cruel society. Jaded and cynical but honorable, they wish to aid the world and protect others, but may use less-than-scrupulous methods to defend their people and achieve their goals.

This character, if they had a D&D alignment, would be Lawful Evil. From most to least importantly, they believe that they:

  • Shall follow the law, as it's the law that separates beasts from civilized folk
  • Shall not lie, for a lying tongue deserves being cut from the mouth of the fool who wields it
  • Shall not aid criminals or those who protect the weak, but is willing to make concessions for those who act out of desperation or are in dire straits
  • Shall kill to advance themselves or promote order, but will find it distasteful and dislike it greatly
  • Shall harm the innocent to advance themselves or promote order, but is disgusted with the idea and will avoid it at (almost) all costs

In regards to their behavior and their alignment, they will, from most to least likely:

  • Respects the laws and authority figures of the community and nation, for the law is tantamount in keeping order
  • Obey all personal contracts, for their word is their bond
  • Considers public service in a leadership role an honor and would gladly take a position of authority
  • Is not trusted by the community and may have enemies due to disagreements over ideology and acting callously (or not callously enough)
  • Supports the legal procedures of the nation without regard to their own discomfort, but will be vocal if they feel a dishonorable action has been committed, or if the innocent suffer

4.  Talents and Faults

To help flesh out a potential path for this character, a selection of randomized strengths and weaknesses has been made using Joe Larsen's Character Faults and Talents system. These are only suggestions for this character, and you are free to use, retcon, modify, or disregard these ideas as you please.

Talents:

  • Mass Combat Reflexes: In a battle situation with three or more participants (not including this character), the character's wits sharpen. They have an acute awareness of the fighting around them and a rough idea of who is doing what at any time. They are not easily blind-sided, and find it easier to dodge and react to multiple opponents than others might. They are, however, still fallible to surprise tactics and dirty fighting, such as ambush from the bushes or sand in their eyes.
  • Piercing Stare: In canines, eye contact is a major form of body language. This character's gaze or expression is particularly striking or dazzling to other canines, making the character seem more intimidating or authoritative. Some might say they have a natural "leader's look", and may be more inclined to stay out of the character's way or respect their space.

Faults:

  • Agyrophobic: This character has a fear of crossing open paths and anything resembling a road; they may also fear carts, horses, and other things that are used for transport on roads. They may even fear canoes and boats or using established water routes. They are visibly nervous and on edge when around pathways or anything like a cart. They are unable to cross roads without being nervous or anxious, and may flinch when faced with a road or form of transport. They may suffer a panic attack if they are surrounded by or in forced close proximity to a road or form of transport. The most severe reactions may be extreme anger or violence to get away from transport or roads that can't be controlled. A good article on phobias vs. normal fears can be found here.
  • Anti-Luperci Prejudice: Even if this character is a non-Luperci themselves, they have a prejudice against anyone who isn't a Luperci. They may consider non-Luperci dirty or uncivilized, or somehow cursed or lacking in some way. They may feel like non-Luperci can never be as strong or smart as regular Luperci, and that Luperci are inherently superior to their unchanged counterparts.
  • Dependent: This character is emotionally or physically dependent on some sort of comforting object or person to get through the day. They may have a pNPC companion they go everywhere with to help with a phobia. They may have a small ball they squeeze in their jaws to get rid of stress. They may have a necklace they hold onto when they're insecure, or a friend they can go to so they can vent their troubles. Whatever or whoever it is, the character will become angry, anxious, upset, frustrated or even inconsolable if they have lost or aren't with that other character or thing.

5.  Relationships

This character was raised in an environment full of power play and hidden motives. Their family or pack was as complex in their dynamics as the ancient Chinese royalty, the Tudors, or the Borgias were. They couldn't trust many except close family or friends, and still they were a pawn in others' games. They try to play the game, have control over their family/social group and be cold and methodical, but they struggle. Their heart's not into it, and they use their ruthlessness to protect the next generation. Any mates or peers are treated with suspicion; children, pupil figures, and youngsters are treasured and loved. They may stay in dysfunctional relationships out of a sense of honor and "eventually doing right", or may dedicate themselves to a single life if they aren't asexual/aromantic.

There are a number of open territories you can use as a place of origin for this character, or create backstory and ties to. Good examples for this particular character include Algiers, Beirut, London, or Rome. The on-board settlement of Freetown may also be a good option.
