General

Personality

This character is introverted, good-mannered, and overall wants to keep to themselves. They are mostly honest and disciplined, and prefer to not rock the boat or cause any trouble for anyone else. They don't see what the fuss is about when it comes to picking sides or choosing a cause, but will support and get along with those who do. They come across as very relaxed and unworried about life, being hard to rattle even in the darkest of times. They feel life is best navigated by going with their gut, and often base a decision on what will be best for them. They appreciate the value of other people and their input, but don't see much point in being overtly social. This said, heinous acts and individuals - as well as certain high-risk opportunities - can make them question their choices in life, and whether or not they need to take living a little more seriously.

This character, if they had a D&D alignment, would be True Neutral. From to least importantly, they believe that they:

• Shall help the needy if doing so aids themselves, as they would rather keep to their own business
• Shall not kill the innocent, for there is no reason to
• Shall honor those who honor them, but may be biased towards hero-worshiping certain individuals that impress or infatuate them
• Shall advance themselves without harming others, but can't help if something they do inadvertently causes harm to another
• Shall follow the law unless breaking the law advances them without harm to others, although they may rebel against tyrannical and oppressive rules and regimes

In regards to their alignment and their behavior, they are, from most to least likely, to:

• Take risks if the benefits are great, for what is life without a little risk?
• Generally keep their word, wanting to be dependable to others
• Be well-liked by their community without wanting to improve it, but may feel guilty about not contributing more
• Not seek positions of authority, but may be tempted by money, riches or power
• Have few close friends and never betray them except in dire circumstances, as this character is an introvert (barring anyone they may be dependent on - see below, in Faults)

Talents and Faults

To help flesh out a potential path for this character, a selection of randomized strengths and weaknesses has been made using Joe Larsen's Character Faults and Talents system. Talents:

• Subconscious Preparation: When going into a dangerous or tense situation, this character doesn't get nervous or upset. They become hyper-aware and ready to go, giving them the edge in initiative and moving fast. They can be the first to make a move or say something necessary, and don't let their fight-or-flight reflex get in their way.
• Light Sleeper: This character sleeps lightly and needs less rest compared to others. They are hard to sneak up on when resting, and can function on little sleep if the situation arises. This doesn't make them invincible - they too can suffer from sleep deprivation if they don't get the shut-eye they need.

Faults:

• Dependent: This character is emotionally or physically dependent on some sort of comforting object or person to get through the day. They may have a pNPC companion they go everywhere with to help with a phobia. They may have a small ball they squeeze in their jaws to get rid of stress. They may have a necklace they hold onto when they're insecure, or a friend they can go to so they can vent their troubles. Whatever or whoever it is, the character will become angry, anxious, upset, frustrated or even inconsolable if they have lost or aren't with that other character or thing.
• Greedy: This character is greedy. They want money, power, fame, and possibly even more than that. Loans or borrowing from this character always come with a heavy catch, and they're not afraid to step on others to get what they want in life. Their morals may be compromised by their love of whatever they desire, should the temptation be great enough.

This character never knew their father growing up. In his place, their paternal and/or maternal grandfather took on a parenting role, and it's to them that this character was the closest. Other females in their family - save their mother, who they were friendly with - had a strained relationship with this character for whatever reason. There may also have been some siblings that disappeared or died early in this character's life, leaving a sense of longing and grief that sticks with this character to this day. Because of this, they may try to fill the void with friendships or relationships of numerous types, though they were raised conservatively and aren't open to "unconventional" relationships. (Surrogacy, polyamory, etc.) They also develop bonds with male/male-identifying individuals more easily than females.

There are a number of open territories you can use as a place of origin for this character, or create backstory and ties to. Good examples for this particular character include Chesapeake Bay, Portland, St. Petersburg, and Warsaw. The on-board settlement of Freetown may also be a good option.
