1.  Description

Once a beacon in Russia, St. Petersburg was renamed to Leningrad during the communist revolution. The city is called by two names, St. Petersburg for those of the old Christian-esque faith, and Leningrad for descendents of the dogs that used to live in the city and surrounding areas at the fall of humanity.

2.  Culture

Most people that live in the city either work in trading goods and acquiring goods or some sort of trade talent. Unaffiliated canines work odd jobs or have learned some sort of trade skill such as weaving, mending, brewing, or glassblowing to list a few. Many that live on the shore tend to be fishermen or rely on the trade ships passing through. As a port city, St. Petersburg is a key entryway to the trade in Moscow and down the roads that spread outward from that hub city.

Most of the working canines tend to be Luperci dominant, though there are small groups of canines that roam in ‘feral’ gangs. However, they tend to avoid more active areas.

2.1  Species

Predominantly dog, wolves, and wolf-dog hybrids. Coyotes are not very common here except as the occasional oddity or from a passing ship.

2.2  Lifestyle

Language

The predominant language is Russian, though the traders at the ports may speak other languages that are dominant in Europe.

Residence

Most of the residents of St. Petersburg tend to reside in abandoned homes and official buildings. Many of the homes are in disrepair but many have withstood time and are homes for other residents. Residents that rely on trade or looking to trade tend to go to the Bolshoi Docks, where the trade ships come in from across the Atlantic and all across Europe’s seaboard. However, there is also a day market that is often set up with makeshift wooden stalls and caravan stores in the large courtyard of the Winter Palace

Technology

Many of the homes that are reclaimed by Luperci have been shored up and repaired as best as possible. While the streets may not be taken care of without knowledge of infrastructure and road repair, they take good care of their homes and old buildings. Most buildings are in dismal states, however, and most often too dangerous to go into. The longest standing buildings are the oldest, it seems, like the Winter Palace.

2.3  Groups

There are two dominantly present groups in Saint Petersburg. However, they only represent about half the population of the city proper. There are many unaffiliated small groups, mostly familial spread through small, nuclear family territories.

Detya Kunstkamerani

The Children of the Kunstkamera are a medium cult of about thirty members that have taken over the western portion of the Vasileostrovskiy Rayon, the island in the center of the city, as well as the two western-most bridges linking the island to the main Russian territory.

Control

The Detya took over the old Saint Petersburg University and, most importantly, the Kunstkamera. They control access to the island and the water traffic from their end of the island, though free access is available from the bridges northeast and southeast of the territory (Tuchkov and Blagoveshchensky bridges).

Worship

They have taken to worship of the oddities in Peter the Great's museum[1]. An odd cult, they maintain any of the oddities still intact in the museum and keep it clean as a place of prayer. While they are not a very violent group, they are extremely protective of their territory and the museum.

Their numbers tend to oscillate a little and members come and go. However, they are inclusive and readily accept any old members back into the fold if they return. They also take any invalid or maimed canines, putting them up on a pedestal as another oddity to worship. Due to their odd nature, they are mostly left alone by the other residents of the city.

Port Authority

A group of individual ship owners and dock workers, this is a semi-democratic coalition that runs the major docks in the middle of the city. They help control the water lines and also provide registers for when and where ships go. They are also responsible for providing some type of shipping internally to Moscow on the river, mostly on small boats with small crews. The group’s numbers fluctuate depending on the season.

The leader of this group is Vatya Karolovovna; an old ship captain, she helps maintain the cohesion of the group and regularly assists with issues between ships, docks, and stores in the area. She is regarded as a sort of president or motherly figure despite her heavily scarred and old appearance .

They ‘control’ the Bolshoi Port in Saint Petersburg[2], near the center of the city. Many of the residents in Saint Petersburg tend to congregate near the water and the trade, where it is easier to reach other people. There are often shops and stalls here, as well as merchant ships coming and going at the docks.

2.4  Religion

There is no real main religion in this city. Detya Kunstkamerani are a cult over the oddities in the Kunstkamera, Luperci Christians live actively with a church repurposed here and there, and many pagan believers and atheist roam the streets. It is a veritable hodgepodge of faiths. Conflicts arise but are usually quickly calmed by the various groups as most tend to keep to themselves.

3.  Significance

Anyone may create characters originating from the area, or have their character stay in the area for a long time, a short time, etc. No permission is necessary - just add them here! List any families that originate in your area:

  • Families
  • Peter Dubov's father Alexei Dubov ran an underground fighting ring within the city, which Peter was a part of. It was small and brutal, but attracted decent crowds and good trade via bets. It continues, but at still a small scale.
  • Egregore Prizmov's parents, Lyuba and Gavriil Chernbelov, were from here as members of the Detya Kunstkamerani cult before Lyuba killed Gavriil and fled to Moscow. See Prizmov.
