Dale's Adoptable #26

This character is open to adoption under a Relaxed Permanent Contract. You have free reign to choose, edit and modify any of the traits listed here, or even the design of the character itself. Once you claim the character as yours, it's yours, and you are free to put them up for adoption to someone else at any time. If not, you may drop, kill them off, or NPC them as you please. All I ask for is a vague outline of what you plan to do with this character so I can pick a good first fit. A Kiritar template has been provided as inspiration for a face to this character, but it's up to you whether you color the template or use something else.

If interested, please contact Dale via PM on their OOC Dale account.

OOC Information

General

Personality

This character wants power at any cost, plain and simple. They want to be the alpha, on top and in control. They're not necessarily interested in authority or a position of power, and may even prefer working from the shadows. All that matters to them is satisfying their ambitions, crushing anyone that might get in their way. They are confident, well-spoken and cunning, seeking the best ways to manipulate others to their whims. They gather people around them to use as one might use a sword or shield, ever careful to hide the truth of their plans from those undeserving to hear them. Despite all this, a conscience still prickles at the back of their minds, and they are sometimes taken aback by shows of true kindness or virtue. It's as if they can't comprehend the goodness that can appear before them.

This character, if they had a D&D alignment, would be Neutral Evil. From to least importantly, they believe that they:

  • Shall seek unlimited power over others, because they feel at their best when in a position of complete power and control
  • Shall betray friends, family, community, and nation to advance themselves, because nothing gets in the way of their unfettered ambition
  • Shall kill to advance themselves, but can experience twinges of guilt at taking a life
  • Shall honor those who are stronger, but the character isn't afraid of undermining or undercutting such people
  • Shall not show mercy to enemies, but may be swayed otherwise or made hesitant by acts of incredible selflessness, great strength, and/or impressive ambition

In regards to their alignment and their behavior, they are, from most to least likely, to:

  • Betray friends if profitable due to their ruthless ambition
  • Support their nation if it's profitable, as they can benefit from the advantages of living in such a nation
  • Seek to undermine their community and nation (especially if profitable), as it creates power vacuums and opportunities to further their plans
  • Fit in with their society, but they may be seen as cold, ruthless or sometimes extreme by others
  • Not seek a position of authority over others, finding it hard to turn down due to wanting complete power and control

Adopters are free to retcon, completely rewrite, or disregard any of this in favor of their own ideas.

Possible Character Names

This is, by no means, an exhaustive list. They're simply ideas for an adopter to look at if they can't think of a name they like for this character.

Male

  • Antonius: A Roman family name of unknown Etruscan origin.
  • Dídac: Catalan form of Didacus, a medieval Latin version of Diego, which may have been derived from the name of St. James in Spanish.
  • Sylvanus: An archaic English form of "Silvanus", a Roman name meaning "of the woods".

Female

  • Chrisomalousa: One of the names of a Greek version of Rapunzel, it means "golden-haired".
  • Erminia: Italian feminine form of the name Herminius, which is of unknown Etruscan origin (but possibly linked to the name of the god Hermes).
  • Orquídea: A Spanish and Portuguese name meaning "orchid".

Gender-Neutral

  • Kanta: An Indian, Hindi and Bengali name that comes from Sanskrit, and which means "desired" or "beautiful".
  • Morgan: A name derived from Old Welsh Morcant, possibly meaning "sea circle".
  • Shahar: Variant of Shachar, a name that means "dawn" in Hebrew.

Talents and Faults

To help flesh out a potential path for this character, a selection of randomized strengths and weaknesses has been made using Joe Larsen's Character Faults and Talents system. These are only suggestions for this character, and you are free to use, retcon, modify, or disregard these ideas as you please.

Talents:

  • Confident: This character is naturally confident. They believe they can do anything, and have full faith in their abilities. The character knows how to convince others about and "sell" their abilities. They aren't, however, confident to the point of arrogance.
  • Natural Judge of Weapon Quality: This character has a keen eye for judging the quality of weapons. They know a good weapon when they see one, and can test and determine how well a weapon is made, what its balance is like, how worn it is, etc. This may be a narrow category of weapons, or perhaps extends to several weapon categories - adopters are encouraged to think about what might be the most realistic for this character.
  • Good At Grammar and Spelling: This character has a good grasp of the grammar and spelling of their native tongue. They may be eloquent, and rarely make mistakes or slip-ups in writing or speaking the language they are most familiar with.
  • Speed-Reader: This character is a fast reader. Novels and large chunks of text can be read within a matter of hours. They are able to scan or skim through text and understand it without taking much time to do so.

Faults:

  • Glutton: This character is a sucker for indulging their senses. Food, scents, sensations - all of it the character wants in excess. They will binge unhealthily on food and substances to satisfy their cravings, or obsess over activities that bring some kind of satisfaction.
  • Ulcerated Skin: This character has "hot spots" on their paws and/or skin, which are skin ulcers caused by conditions like atopic dermatitis. They are red, sore and hairless, and may weep or ooze. The character may be tempted to chew or scratch at them relief, as they can be itchy and painful. They can be ugly to look at, and a distraction or cause of distress to the character.
  • Dependent: This character is emotionally or physically dependent on some sort of comforting object or person to get through the day. They may have a pNPC companion they go everywhere with to help with a phobia. They may have a small ball they squeeze in their jaws to get rid of stress. They may have a necklace they hold onto when they're insecure, or a friend they can go to so they can vent their troubles. Whatever or whoever it is, the character will become angry, anxious, upset, frustrated or even inconsolable if they have lost or aren't with that other character or thing.

History

This character was close with their mother, but had a distant relationship with their father and grandparents on both sides of the family. Interactions were strained or non-existent with these family members, with the void filled by numerous aunts and uncles that were also on both sides of the family. This character also grew up with several siblings, some of whom died or disappeared - possibly because of something the character did. This had a polarizing effect on the character's siblings, with some growing distant from the character and others growing closer to them. Any relationships this character have also have a hot-and-cold pattern, with some of them being extremely close ones and others being strained or non-existent. All the character's connections, however, are used for leverage or scheming.

There are a number of open territories you can use as a place of origin for this character, or create backstory and ties to. Good examples for this particular character include Athens, Barcelona, Rome, and Portland. The on-board settlement of Amherst may also be a good option.

Adopters are free to retcon, completely rewrite, or disregard any of this in favor of their own ideas.
