Introduction
Gil Underwood is a jock in the company of Todd Langley.
He was born to a coyote mother who coupled with a wandering dog that moved on before the pregnancy was discovered. He grew under the wing of his mother's extended family, revering his jovial uncle the most; Gil admired the man's good humor and heart and strove to emulate him. Being the middle sibling of a large litter, it was difficult for Gil to receive dedicated attention and feel like an important individual. When he grew old enough to reasonably take care of himself, he branched out from his family and fell in with a band of roving males. Being the youngest of the group and the most eager to fit in, Gil was often bullied and taken advantaged of, but he enjoyed the attention and brotherhood that he received in return.
His tenure with the band was formative but cut short by a violent mountain lion predation. Gil was initially the focus of the attack and the band quickly abandoned him to flee except for a man named Sidney Underwood, who remained to save him and the others. Sidney was killed and taken away as prey. Heartbroken and suffering from survivor's guilt, Gil took on Sidney's surname to honor his memory and tried to reconnect with the band, but failed to relocate them.
Unwilling to return home, Gil wandered around and worked odd jobs as a guardsmen in exchange for easy meals and company. He longed for more permanent settlement, but stints with others never lasted long for one reason or another. In the summer of 2023, he lingered in Palisade for the season. There he learned of Del Cenere and became enamored with their culture and aesthetic. Looking for an in, he managed to secure the unlikely friendship with an awkward Todd Langley and all but stood on his head to convince the Ashen to vouch for him. Todd eventually agreed and let Gil return to the Gang with him, though their homecoming was shadowed by grim tidings.
Physical |
Gil is a white coydog with blue, almond-shaped eyes. His pelt is unstained (through meticulous grooming) and double-coated, giving him a fluffier appearance during colder seasons. His most notable feature is his piercing gaze with pinpricked pupils. Taking more after his husky heritage, Gil has a broad muzzle, triangular ears, and round face. He is taller and burlier than the average coyote. He has toned muscles around the chest and shoulder area, possessing a top heavy silhouette and a solid (if pudgy) abdomen in Optime form. It's only during the warmer seasons when he's sporting his shorter summer coat that the finer details of his prevailing coyote blood show through, such as a thin skeletal frame and bristle brush tail. Hidden underneath his fur, he is scarred on the back of his neck. His paw pads are calloused from labor. Gil does not have a stylized mane. Feeling comfortable in most temperatures, he typically wears simple pants, a bandana and collar tied around the neck, and an open-buttoned shirt—or no shirt at all, if he isn't compelled by social etiquette. He often wraps his hands and forearms in thin leather strips for protection. When pulling a cart or sled, he wears a fitted leather harness. Gil predominantly assumes Optime form, but favors Lupus and Secui forms when off-duty. |
