1.  History

Sequoia was born into a small family pack on the northern side of Mount Oromocto. She was raised by her parents and various older siblings. Her family chose not to take on a more human way of living, despite acquiring the virus a few generations before Sequoia was born. Sequoia had very little contact with anyone outside her family as her parents preferred a secluded place to raise their family. They did not understand the new, more human way that wolves lived and decided to keep to the old, familiar way. These same values were passed on to their children who continue to live secluded lives even after leaving the original pack.

Her litter was large and she was just one of seven puppies born. With so many littermates all vying for attention it paid off to stand out from the crowd. Sequoia learned early on that being better than her littermates at something was rewarded with praise and acceptance. She became very determined, always trying to one-up her littermates to get the attention of her mother, Willow. Because of her ambitious and hard-working attitude she developed a very close relationship with her mother early on. This relationship only grew stronger as she grew up and started to progress in her hunting skills more quickly than her littermates, even though they were just as determined to win their mother’s praise. Her quick learning was attributed greatly to her constant pestering of her older siblings to teach her. Another factor in her success was the mistakes that she made. In her quest to prove herself to her parents she would often rush or strike out on her own and ruin the whole thing. She took these mistakes and learned from them, becoming more patient and learning to work with others while still letting her own skills shine.

When Sequoia was older she began to focus more on gaining the acceptance of her father, Cypress. He was a strict and distant wolf who favored the oldest of his children and avoided the puppies. His aloofness only made Sequoia want to work harder to be recognized by him. She threw herself into training, working herself to exhaustion while she tried to become the best out of all her siblings. But no matter how hard she worked her father never acknowledged her hard work or praised her accomplishments.

Cypress was a strong leader and he held their family and their pack together. So when, in old age, his health started to deteriorate the pack began to fall apart. Sequoia and her littermates had just celebrated their third birthday when he became too sick to leave the den and by the end of July, he was dead. With his death the pack officially disbanded with his children breaking up into small groups or going their own ways. Sequoia stayed with her mother, whose age had also started to wear away at her health. They remained in the den Sequoia had been born in until recently when an older sibling of hers decided to start his own family in the same spot. Now she travels with her mother looking for a new place to call home.

2.  Personality

Sequoia lived a very sheltered life and knows very little of the world outside of where she grew up. As a result, she is very close-minded. She rejects things she is not familiar with and it takes her a long time to warm up to new experiences. Growing up in a pack that did not use Optime form, she finds those who use it strange. In addition, she is weary of things that are not natural and will not use them unless she absolutely has to. Growing up without outside contact, Sequoia does not know how to interact with strangers and can be extremely awkward when meeting new people. Because of this she prefers to keep with those she already knows and is hesitant to enter situations where she might meet someone new.

Her closest relationship is with her mother, Willow. Sequoia is very protective of her mother and leaves her side only when she must. Her mother relies on her for both food and protection and Sequoia works really hard to make sure that she is as comfortable as possible. As her mother’s health has gotten worse, Sequoia has become even more protective and worried. The recent loss of her father and dispersion of her family has only strengthened these worries. Recently, she has become hostile toward strangers, her fear of losing her mother causing her to see everyone as a threat.

Sequoia is always looking for new ways in which to improve her abilities or learn something new that she can excel at. She has a very competitive nature and will work herself to exhaustion to become a master at anything. She is constantly challenging others to prove that she is better than they are, thinking that by doing this she will gain acceptance. She tries particularly hard to impress older male wolves, especially those that remind her of her father. Even though she is highly competitive she also understands the importance of working together. She respects the skills and accomplishments of others, relating to the hard work they would have done to achieve those things. She values those who skills are better than her own as teachers and mentors, even as she is trying to be better than them.

She is very confident in her hunting and fighting abilities. She believes in her capability to succeed and will not hesitate, even when faced with a challenge. Her confidence does not mean that she is headstrong, however. She knows her own abilities and will not take on something she knows will be extremely dangerous or that she has little to no chance of succeeding at. Sometimes her confidence can turn into arrogance and she will often boast about her own prowess trying to impress others.

4.  Appearance

Sequoia is a large wolf. She would be above average even if she didn’t have the long, thick fur that contributes greatly to her bulk. Her shoulders and chest are broad and muscular, giving her a wide, sturdy physique. Even her face has a thicker appearance to it, emphasized by her small, slightly rounded ears. Her large build is reminiscent of her single malamute ancestor, though the majority of her appearance comes from her strong wolf heritage.

Very rarely will she use her optime form, preferring the speed and strength of the other two forms. In all of her forms she goes without clothing or accessories of any kind. When in optime form she has very long, brown hair that reaches down to her rump. It is unruly and tangled so she keeps it tied back and out of her face.

Her voice is deep and rich with a steady rhythm that turns anything she says into a story. Her words tend to run together, however, and she can be hard to understand, especially when she talks quietly or is full of emotion.
