Dale's Adoptable #27

This character is open to adoption under a Relaxed Permanent Contract. You have free reign to choose, edit and modify any of the traits listed here, or even the design of the character itself. Once you claim the character as yours, it's yours, and you are free to put them up for adoption to someone else at any time. If not, you may drop, kill them off, or NPC them as you please. All I ask for is a vague outline of what you plan to do with this character so I can pick a good first fit. A Kiritar template has been provided as inspiration for a face to this character, but it's up to you whether you color the template or use something else.

If interested, please contact Dale via PM on their OOC Dale account.

OOC Information

General

Personality

This character doesn't just loathe the law, they despise it. Something has turned this character off rules and regulations completely, whether it be their upbringing or some sort of bad experience with authority figures. They believe power structures are temporary and tenuous at best, and that a lawless society would self-regulate and be more free. They can't be trusted to keep their word, as they treat everyone according to how best that person would benefit this character's survival. They hate promises and are reluctant to help others, but often struggle with their "inner voice" telling them to do the right thing. They can easily come across as a jerk, but will warm up to people who genuinely believe in them and hold space for this character when they're troubled.

This character, if they had a D&D alignment, would be Chaotic Neutral. From to least importantly, they believe that they:

  • Shall not murder, for murder is a loathsome and reprehensible act
  • Shall break the law whenever it's convenient, since they believe themselves beholden to no law
  • Shall pursue pleasure, but have reservations about pursuing it at the expense of others
  • Shall not kill the innocent, but will kill if absolutely forced to or to ensure their own survival
  • Shall honor no authority other than their own, but may go along with the local authorities in order to ensure their own survival

In regards to their alignment and their behavior, they are, from most to least likely, to:

  • Consider themselves above the law, and believe they have no responsibility or obligation to uphold it
  • Seek to undermine the authority figures of their community or nation, as those in power could stand to be knocked down a little
  • Break any contract when they feel like it, but may be made to feel guilty for doing so
  • Be generally well-liked by the community but not seek to improve it, making enemies due to their flippant attitude towards the law
  • Not be concerned with those less fortunate, but has a guilty conscience and may struggle to turn someone away

Possible Character Names

This is, by no means, an exhaustive list. They're simply ideas for an adopter to look at if they can't think of a name they like for this character.

Male

  • Marcellus: A Roman family name that was originally a diminutive of Marcus, which itself was likely derived from the name of the Roman war god Mars.
  • Qurban: An Arabic-derived Urdu name meaning "sacrifice" or "sacrificial animal".
  • Tögöldör: Meaning "perfect" or "complete" in Mongolian.

Female

  • Iskra: Derived from a South Slavic word, it means "spark".
  • Kandake: Greek variant of Candace, a name derived from the hereditary title of Ethiopian queens. Its Cushitic origin means "queen mother".
  • Shayna: Derived from a Yiddish word meaning "beautiful".

Gender-Neutral

  • Gohar: A Persian-derived name meaning "jewel" or "gemstone".
  • Karabo: A Sotho and Tswana name meaning "answer".
  • Moran: A Hebrew name meaning "viburnum shrub".

Talents and Faults

To help flesh out a potential path for this character, a selection of randomized strengths and weaknesses has been made using Joe Larsen's Character Faults and Talents system. These are only suggestions for this character, and you are free to use, retcon, modify, or disregard these ideas as you please.

Talents:

  • Close Combat Reflexes: This character has good reflexes when it comes to close-quarter combat. They can dodge and weave around punches and kicks easily.
  • Long Jumper: This character is skilled at jumping, and can leap wider and/or higher distances than the average canine.

Faults:

  • Addiction: This character has some sort of dependence on an activity (such as gambling) or substance (such as alcohol). They need to indulge their addiction in order to function, though some may be able to live as a functional addict. Withdrawal symptoms are likely if this character stops indulging their addiction, and relapse is a possibility even if they quit.
  • Aggression: This character is aggressive. They have a temper about them, and may be impatient and prone to storming off or running into dangerous situations. They are easily frustrated and find it difficult to keep cool in tense or tough situations. They may physically or verbally lash out at those around them when worked up.

History

This character is or was distant with their parents growing up. They were raised by one set of grandparents, who impressed into them the fragility of life and how precious time is to spend. Their aunts and uncles had a hand in their upbringing, as well, and they are very close to all or most of the siblings they have. They have a hard time with romance and friendships due to their commitment issues, and are likely to be a flighty partner or fair-weather friend to someone else. Most relationships they make are temporary and needs-based, with the knowledge that this character doesn't have a real stake in another's life. It's possible the character may outgrow or drop these tendencies, but it would take coaxing and a lot of time spent with them to get them to form a proper bond.

There are a number of open territories you can use as a place of origin for this character, or create backstory and ties to. Good examples for this particular character include Alexandria, Athens, Jeddah, and Rome. The on-board settlement of Amherst may also be a good option.
