Adoption
The Vaziri family consists primarily of non-biologically related individuals, who take in orphans and raised them / give them a family. This tradition still stands even as the family made their way to Canada. However, despite the positive intentions of the current members of this family, this traditions origins are of a darker nature and started with a man known simply as Mimoun.
Mimoun took in stragglers and orphans, almost exclusively young males. In exchange for food, shelter, and a family, Mimoun's boys were required to earn their keep by begging on the streets, scavenging, or stealing. There Azzam spent the rest of his youth and early teenage years, his desire for a family blinding him to the darker sides of Mimoun's practice, such as when the older male collected earnings from selling the boys out for pleasurable use. After Mimoun, the boys split and went their own ways, Azzam taking the good behind Mimoun's idea, creating the Vaziri family as it is currently known to be.
