1.  About Avian Training

NOTE: Kentaro is the only one with advanced knowledge as to how the birds are trained and how they work. Even though this knowledge is available to players here, please keep realism in mind!! Your character is not allowed to know how the avian system and their training works unless they speak with Kentaro or work directly with the birds.

Anathema has a unique avian alarm system where each crow, raven and owl is taught to raise the alarm if it sees an unknown canine or potentially large predator too close to the borders or within pack lands. Because of this, the birds are known to create a small racket when they see new members because it takes them a while to recognize a new member as part of the pack and not a threat. The birds that stay upon the borders are also trained to locate a leader if an unknown canine is seen waiting outside their borders, but doesn't appear to pose a threat. However, sometimes the birds' judgement isn't always correct and they can occasionally sound the alarm when those waiting are not posing a threat as well.

The birds usually remain unseen, high up within the branches of trees or airborne to avoid the reach of those beneath them. The majority of the birds are usually colored darkly, the crows being either carrion, hooded or black, and rarely albino. Anathema's birds are not pets, nor slaves; they work for the safety within Anathema and free food that's provided by their respected owners or any members that are willing to feed the birds a snack for their good work. Most of the birds usually stick to their designated area, and do not leave without a good reason.

2.  Interacting With Crows, Ravens and Owls

Any member of Anathema is welcome to interact with the birds. Mentioned below are a few ideas, as well as a few things to consider when interacting with them; if you have any questions, don't hesitate to PM one of us.

Things to Keep in Mind:

  • There are many crows, owls and ravens within Anathema; not all of them are trained/part of the alert system, and some are wild. Because of this, it is hard to distinguish between the trained birds and the wild ones.
  • Although the crows, ravens and owls can speak broken high speech, most of the ones within the system can't or won't speak high speech; some won't even speak to canines in low speech either!
  • Keep the areas in which the bird works in mind; unless there's a good reason, the bird will not leave the area.
  • They are not pets, and they are not prey; they are to be treated with respect and not harmed!

Avian Interaction Ideas:

  • Anathema's birds are greedy and love to be fed; if you wanted to get in one's good books, food works wonders.
  • Sound the alert; the birds will caw and hoot repeatedly to draw attention if they see something dangerous or someone unknown; you are more than welcome to have them do as such in a thread, whether they are detecting a NPC loner or large predator!
  • Capture a crow, owl or raven and attempt to teach it simple commands. We can always use more birds working the system!

3.  How to Claim

While many of the birds either belong to Kentaro, some of them may be claimed or befriended by another canine. The birds of the avian system are not to be considered 'pets', but can share close relationships with particular canines when they are not patrolling the borders.

To claim a raven, owl or crow, please provide a thread where your character is interacting with the bird, and then either update this wiki or post it to the maintenance board.

4.  Directory

This is a list of Anathema's current crows, owls and ravens.

4.1  Rules

  1. Members are free to reference this list when threading with the ravens, owls and crows.
  2. If your character "claims" a raven, owl or crow, you can edit this table with their information, only after you let us know on the maintenance board!
  3. Claimed birds are non-canine cNPCs (companion NPCs) of their partner. Don't powerplay: ask the player before directly controlling or referencing their NPC!
  4. Not all crows, owls and ravens are part of the alert system, and not all are listed below; if you claim a crow, owl or raven that is not part of the alert system, feel free to add them below.
