Jairus Mercer was a charm peddler and the guardian figure of Jehan de l'Or, having rescued the boy from his neglectful mother at a young age and raising him on superstitions.

When he discovered that he was dying, he urged Jehan to join Midnight Shores, believing that they could take care of Jehan after he was gone. His death in early 2015 drove Jehan from the pack -- shortly after which Jairus returned as a ghost. His apparent last action as a spirit was to guide Jehan to Clover, after which he vanished.

1.1 Basics

Essentials

Species: Obviously a hybrid, with a wolfish coat and build. His long legs and neck, as well as the way he carries his head and ears, are rather doggish. His tail is more doggish as well. His coyote blood blends with the dog -- hinted by his gait and some angles of his face.
Fur: His fur is reasonably thick and coarse, but the hair on his tail is finer and longer.
- Optime Hair: He has a natural-type mane.
Facial Features: He has a long muzzle, some sharper angles, and tall but often relaxed ears.
Build and Size: Jairus is tall, lean, and rangy.
Humanization: Low -- has some mannerisms, but carries himself feral and likes his own four legs.

Coloration

Fur: His fur is primarily Birch.
Markings:
- He has a Birch facial mask and ears, as well as a Birch stripe that covers his shoulders and tip of his tail.
- The inside of all four legs are Akaroa. Most are well dipped into it -- but on the front left, only the paw is colored.

Modifications

Scars:
- Two claw marks on inside of left wrist.
- Bottom right fang broken.
- Various smaller scars hidden in pelt.
Piercings: "Lobe" of right ear -- nothing worn in it. (He is embarrassed and claims it's a puncture wound.)

Accessories

Jaiurus often wears "good luck charms" or other talismans meant to ward off evil and sickness. The following are most common:

Dried acorn on twine necklace.

Lupus (Always)

Long-legged, with high head carriage; clear wolf-dog hybrid. Used for travel and sleeping.

Secui

Muscle packs onto tall frame, making him massive. Used for hunting and fighting.

Optime

Rangy and tall (6'10" with good posture) -- but with a feral hunch and natural mane. Used for tasks including trading.

Interaction

Speech: Jairus has a midwestern-to-southern States accent. He tends to slur words together (especially you + verb, as in y'know or y'think), occasionally uses slang like "ain't." He is a confident speaker, not generally excitable or otherwise quirky.
Scent: Jairus smells most like forests, acorns, and deer hide. Sometimes you can catch whiffs of spices, oils, and minerals from his "charms."

General Posture and Body Language: Jairus stands confidently, but his slight feral hunch detracts from that a little. He does stand straight for the ladiez, though! ;D

Sexuality: Mildly homophobic and awkward/uneasy around homosexual actions/couples -- but if you get him to talk about it, he'll shrug and say it's their choice and nothing's wrong with it. He's unfamiliar with and wrong about many things and struggling to overcome a bias his parents set in him.

Spirituality

Jairus has haphazard but strong beliefs in the supernatural and is also very strongly superstitious. Notably, he has a powerful belief in ghosts, and so they tend to be able to manifest around him more. He also believes he is a good luck charm, and that good luck can rub onto others -- part of his reason for adopting the very, very fortunate Jehan.

Some beliefs:

Connection to ghosts due to strong belief in them; often talks to them.
Believes in minor demons or "troublemaking" spirits that bring bad luck; attributes unexpected deaths or illnesses to these demonic ghosts or creatures.
Follows various superstitions from different cultures.
Prays fervently, but usually only made-up prayers for "luck" or protection.
Wears various talismans and good luck charms on his person.

He is now a ghost, though he is quiet about his beliefs regarding this, and continues to coach Jehan as always.
