1.  Appearance

1.1  Essentials

Basics

Stellar is a mix of dusty tones, darker on top and lighter on the bottom, with bright orange eyes. She has tawny accents on her ears, arms, hips, legs, and tail. Her tawny legs and ears fade into white feet and ears tips. Dark "freckles" dot the bridge of her nose, under her eyes, the tips of her ears, and her feet.

She's small and lean in build, with visibly strong arm and leg muscles. Her hair in optime form is dark, shoulder length, and messy; blunted bangs hangs just above her eyes.

Her typical attire is comprised of a dark green, sleeveless jersey with the words "Bad Habits," the number 57, and a pair of crossed bats over a baseball printed on it; a pair of high-waisted, gray cargo pants with a patch on the right knee; and a black leather jacket with red accents and a red patch of the name "Jay" over the right chest.

She always wears a dark wood rosary around her neck.

She has countless, small scars on her hands, arms, feet, and legs.

2.2  Skills

Strengths

2.3  Skills

Strengths

Weaknesses

Combat

  • Lupus Fighting (Journeyman): Stellar fights like a coyote; she relies on using speed and agility to dart in and out of danger to damage her opponent.
  • Hand-to-Hand (Journeyman): Strong, quick, and cruel; Stellar uses her increased height and greater fine motor control in her two-legged form to hit others in ways that will take them down and keep them down.
  • Bat-Wielding (Accomplished): Stellar is very talented at swinging and hitting others with lightweight, blunt objects; this includes thin planks of wood, metal bars, and fallen branches.
  • Ruthlessness (Master): She is outwardly unconcerned with the harm she causes others and will cripple an attacker before she'll risk them getting in another blow.
  • Small Stature: Physically fragile and easy to overpower due to her size.
  • Honorless: Lacks personal honor during a fight and will do almost anything to gain the upper hand, regardless of the consequences; fighting dirty is the only way she knows how to fight.
  • Lack of Control: Is prone to hitting too hard, fighting once the immediate danger has passed, and causing permanent damage to opponents.

Book Smarts

  • Reading & Writing (Journeyman): Stellar is talented at reading and writing, having learned from studying and copying passages of her parents' bible as a youth. Her hand-writing is a bit shaky, but it's legible.
  • Research (Apprentice): She is skilled at poring through texts to find specific, pertinent information to a subject or task she is engaged in; it might just take a while.
  • Complicated Nomenclature: Has a limited vocabulary of written words, having learned primarily from the bible and other, "church-safe" books.
  • Easily Distracted: As eager to learn and locate information as she is, Stellar has a short attention span and often zones out when reading things that don't appeal to her interests.

Street Smarts

  • Parkour (Master): Stellar has mastered the art of efficiently traversing sprawling, urban landscapes. She can climb up walls, jump between platforms, and devise the quickest way to get between point "A" and point "B" with practiced ease.
  • Stealing (Accomplished): Primarily skilled in picking pockets, Stellar can steal any number of small possessions out from under a fellow canine's nose. Even larger possessions, if relatively unguarded, can be quietly swiped without their previous owner being any the wiser.
  • Trap-setting (Journeyman): Stellar is very good at setting small, concealed traps to catch prey; all she needs is some rope and some wire to build a device that will capture her dinner.
  • Foolhardiness: Stellar is irresponsible with her own health and safety, often neglecting to fully test the strength or viability of her routes before embarking on them.
  • Paranoia: In spite of her talent at stealing, she is often undermined by her own paranoia; she will steal less food than she needs or forgo a useful, but high-profile object in fear of retribution.

Languages

  • Feline Low Speech (Master): Stellar grew up learning feline low speech alongside her family's own, native English; stray cats were a common sight in the Swift-Crown household and the old church down the street.
  • Spanish (Dabbler): WIP
  • Thing: Stuff

3.  Connections

3.1  Family

  • Mother: Edin Swift
  • Father: Emmanuel Crown
  • Littermates: Elizabeth Swift, Jeremiah Crown, Caleb Swift
  • Older siblings: Isaiah Crown, Ezekiel Swift, Susannah Crown, Ariel Swift, Josiah Crown
  • Family: Crown, Swift

3.2  Relationships

Key Relationships

  • Jay Styx? Stellar's smart-mouthed, asshole of a dead, best friend; he saved her life on countless occasions, but she couldn't save his.

Positive Relationships

  • Tithe Reverend? Jay's older sister who, upon her brother being disowned by their father, disowned their father in turn. Was like the supportive, older sister Stellar never had. Despite this, Stellar had a terribly embarrassing childhood crush on the woman; Tithe found this hilarious.
  • Littermates Elizabeth, Jeremiah, and Caleb were some of Stellar's closest confidantes prior to their first shifts, after which they began to grow apart. She still views them as some of her only real family and even misses them, occasionally; they do not know she is queer and she fears their response if she were to tell them.

Poor Relationships

  • Edin Swift Mother; a streetwise, bible-thumping coyote woman who runs the Swift-Crown household with a gentle, but firm hand. Fears for her youngest daughter's soul and doesn't understand why she's so defiant of the family's wishes and teachings. Despite this, her judgement has been silent in the face of Stellar's more visible "sins."
  • Emmanuel Crown Father; funny and personable, but strict. Is just as, if not more devout, than his mate. Works at the old church down the street from the family's apartment as a pastor. Has repeatedly tried to convince his youngest daughter to give up her "sins" and settle down with a nice, young man. In fact, any man would do; prior to his death, even Jay would have been a welcome mate for his daughter.
  • Cain Reverend Jay's deadbeat dad who disowned Jay for being a "sinner." He has a nasty scar on his arm from when Stellar stabbed him with a broken bottle in defense of Jay.

Notable Associations

  • Sexual partners: Jay Styx?
  • Violent encounters: Cain Reverend, many unnamed loners
  • Murders: Unnamed loner x3

6.  History

Stellar was born in Portland, Maine to Enid Swift and Emmanuel Crown alongside three siblings. She grew up in a large, nondenominational, evangelical family with several, older siblings in addition to her littermates. She learned to read and write from poring over a bible at her parents' behest and was a regular, precocious presence at the old church down the street from her family's apartment.

This was where she met her best friend Jay Styx, then known to her as Enoch Reverend. The older boy taught her many skills, such as how to pickpocket unsuspecting churchgoers and which local dog packs were "safe" and which were dangerous. The shifted within weeks of each other, at which point the pair found themselves ditching church and bible study to spend long hours exploring the ruins of Portland together.

Jay began to arrive at the door to Stellar's apartment building later and later, until they were sneaking out long past midnight. He'd always had a new ache, bruise, or cut to display, but now he'd begun covering them up. Upon questioning, Jay admitted that his stoic, God-fearing father was abusing him for his "sins." These "sins" only brought the pair closer together and, upon coming out to each other, they had sloppy, awkward sex for the first time. It was terrible, but it marked a permanent change in their already close relationship.

Shortly thereafter, Stellar had a violent altercation with Jay's father, Cain. When Jay didn't arrive at her apartment building one night, she'd gone looking for him. She then broke into his apartment, got between him and a violently drunk Cain, and stabbed the man in the arm with his own, broken bottle. Jay was no longer welcome in his father's home by morning, but his older sister Tithe offered him a room in her own; despite this, he spent most of his nights sleeping on Stellar's bedroom floor.

Jay, once he was safe from his father's wrath, revealed that he was going to change his name. Stellar's own dissatisfaction with her life and close relationship with Jay led to her changing her name as well. The pair had pored through the books in the old church's library and came across a text on foreign birds; in one passage, it spoke of a far off Portland on a far off coast. Thus, Stellar became Stellar, as Jay would always be Stellar's Jay.

Their urban exploration, their favorite pastime, was rife with oft-ignored danger. The tragedy of Jay's death was as predictable as it was devastating; the boy, now a young man, had climbed one story too high in a decrepit apartment building. She had been given his leather jacket for "safe-keeping" so that it wouldn't tear as he squeezed through the hole in the ceiling. Stellar, still on the floor below, watched as it collapsed and took the second story down with it. Jay briefly hung, half-crushed by the rubble, like a crude caricature of the crucifix on the end of his rosary. Then, he fell.

Stellar found herself trapped with her best friend's corpse for several hours as she searched, to no avail, for an opening in the rubble to escape the collapsed apartment building. Finally, she found an opening just big enough for her to squeeze through. Stellar crawled out into the light of dawn with Jay's jacket around her shivering body and his rosary in her hand; she'd taken it to give it to his older sister, but she was selfish.

She left a hastily-scrawled note to Tithe explaining what had happened and apologizing for not being able to save him; apologizing for not going up first. Then, she fled north along the crumbling roads, away from her parents and the corpse of her best friend. She reached 'Souls in mere weeks and searched for the familiarity of the city, quickly settling down in Halifax and staying there ever since.
