Sanguine Valentine is a member of Salsola, currently ranked as an Arbiter, a member of the Inner Ring.

Sanguine is the son of Syringa D'Angelo and Weaver Valentine, along with his siblings, Wisteria Valentine and Aurelion Valentine. He grew up along with his siblings at Salsola's Portland Outpost, Fort Preble. Growing up, he wasn't very outspoken, and didn't really make too much of an effort to stand out. If anything, he already felt like he stood out too much because of his natural looks. Everyone else looks like they belong in their small family except for him. This seemed to cause a rift not only between him and his siblings, but also with his parents. His mother, while not really caring all that much for any of her children, still seemed to at least favor his siblings over him, causing an immense desire to please her.

When the children became old enough, they made the decision to make their way to Salsola proper. His siblings arrived ahead of him, and was welcomed into the kingdom by Salsola's Paladin, Idrieus Eternity. He spent a fair amount of his early time assisting her with the upkeep of her library, not having anyone else that could lend her a hand. This fell into a daily routine, and he was rewarded for his work with the permission to borrow books to read on his down time. He still wasn't sure what he wanted to do with most of his time, and having his siblings around didn't always make coming to a conclusion, or life in general, all that easy.

He eventually found his calling with the assistance of those like Helena Troy Lykoi, Morgana Revlis, and Clementine Salcedo. Through their combined efforts and help, he was able to find his footing in the art of trading, creating partnerships with others in Salsola, like Clementine herself. Morgana had introduced him to Sawyer Cook, but his first real test of his skills came when the leaders gathered at Casa di Cavalieri for a Leadership Summit. He, along with a small group of Salsolans, set up a camp a small ways outside the borders to do trade with those that had come. The then War Lord at the time, Teagan Stryder, had been suspicious of them, but proved his skills enough to let it slide and get word passed around of their stand.

After being guided towards the direction of Salsola by Heine Kaiser, under his alias, Argive Hemlock had made his way to Nova Scotia, bumping into Sanguine along the way. One another seemed to strike up a mutual respect for one another with their social skills as well as keeping under wraps their true intentions and names. After a positive trade between the two, the man had come to Salsola proper, where Sanguine served as the man's sponsor. This was his first time ever being a sponsor, and aimed not to disappoint.

Sanguine continues to expand his contacts as well as his trading skills. He has had continued positive interactions with Cook as well as expanding his talents to members of New Caledonia and The Troupe. He continues to aim to please, and wonder if maybe he should make a trip back out to the Outpost sometime, even if only to visit his immediate family, being the only one of the three still left in Salsola proper.

OOC Assumptions

Plot Opportunities

Salsola members may assume and reference the following without discussion/asking:

  • Having casual conversation with Sanguine that will not greatly effect roleplay.
  • Discussing trade details, especially with other Merchant Tier members.
  • Being outside Salsola, usually looking to do trading.
  • Seeing Sanguine...
    • ...around Salsola, either at her home in the Ruins, helping in the library, or at the Marketplace.
  • Sanguine is an active trader for Salsola, be it doing business with the other packs or even loners. Looking to trade? He has a variety of things he can offer in that regard.
  • Sanguine doesn't hold any jobs! Why not see if you can help him get one or maybe convince him to pursue one that might catch his interest?
  • With the Marketplace addition to Salsola's territory, he has been spending a fair amount of time there, be it helping out other members, escorting, or looking at maybe setting up a place of his own. Why not come here to hang out with him or maybe help him with setting up?
  • Looking for some help with rank threads, post counts, or even jobs? If he fits the bill, then he will help out.

Appearance

Basics

Even though he is a hybrid, Sanguine spots wolf features above anything else. His muzzle is not very angular, having rounder and shorter ears like most wolves. His fur is slightly longer than a normal wolf's, even when not in his winter coat, something from his slight dog heritage. He has an average build, and most of his work is not physically intense, nor does he stray away from keeping himself at least fit for his home. His height is average for one of his species, but certainly doesn't reach the height of his parents or even his sister. His tail is that of a normal wolf's, usually kept at a slight curl upwards.

He is rarely seen outside of her Optime form, seeing as this form serves him the most purpose in his day to day life. When in this form, he sports a small amount of hair on the top of his head. The base of his hair is black, but the tips of many strands have the same white color as some of his fur. He doesn't make too much of an effort to style his hair, letting it stick wherever it naturally flows. He'll straighten it out for most special occasions.

Sanguine's pelt stick out like a sore thumb compared to the others in his family. Where everyone else has some sort of brown or tan coloring to them, he has a pelt that more closely resembles his aunt, Hyacinth Silevue. He shares her black and white pelt, though gets some tan highlights to his fur from his father. Where it not for his bright green eyes, he might believe he wasn't part of his own family. His eyes hold a constant look of confidence.

  • Nose and Paw Pads: Lunar Green (#444742)
  • Claws: White
  • Optime Hair: Zeus (#1e1b14) with Pampas (#faf9f7) highlights/tips
  • Scars: None

Clothing & Other

Although Sanguine lives in a highly humanized kingdom, he is a mixed bag when it comes to how he dresses. Whenever he is within Salsola, he is always clothed. His usual outfit consists of a white shirt and black slacks. He will sometimes wear a green vest over his shirt, saving anything fancier that he might have than this for a special occasion. During the winter, he will usually wrap himself in a jacket, one with a number of pockets both inside and outside for carrying items in. Whenever he is outside of Salsola, he will often not wear anything, just to give off the illusion that he is not part of a pack. This is not the case when he is either at an establishment or in the company of someone else (primarily other traders from Salsola). He doesn't wear anything when it comes to accessories, though is usually carrying around some kind of book.

Personality

Personality

In his youth, Sanguine was a rather quiet individual. He wasn't one to socialize with others, even though there were others in his and his siblings' age group at the Fort. He felt much better in the company of his family more than he did anyone else. Even from a young age, he was looking to impress his parents, especially his mother, but this coupled with his almost shy tendencies didn't make for a good combination. He had some amount of confidence, but had more issues growing up in regards to his looks. He could be a very bitter child whenever the subject was brought up, and hated being compared to his aunt rather than his birth parents.

Not much had changed from his youth to adulthood, at least before he came to Salsola proper. He started out the same man, but began to move out of his shell. He was a bit of a recluse, though found a fondness for the Paladin and her library. Seeking out a chance to borrow books from her, he agreed to help her out. He was still having a bit of trouble socializing with those in Salsola, and it didn't help that he wasn't sure what to fully commit to with his path in life.

When given a chance to work with some of the higher ranked members in Salsola, Sanguine was not only able to find his calling, but a great opportunity to build his confidence. Since taking up trading, he has gotten better at speaking to others. He is not without an air of confidence around him, and always aims to keep a level head with anyone he meets, even when he is making up lies to tell to others. Depending on the situation, he can act out certain emotions if needed to get the upper hand, and is good at coming up with stories on the spot. Sometimes when he is talking to others, he can let off a little too much sarcasm, but finds it fun to sometimes poke at nerves.

He takes his work very seriously, sometimes losing track of what he is doing or where he is going when he is looking over things. He likes to handle things a certain way, even if he is working with others in Salsola. He is fine with letting others take charge of operations, and is not above doing some underhanded tasks in order to get what he wants. He has no problem with lying to Outsiders and other pack members. He likes to look at things in the long run and plan for the future rather than in the moment. He is not one to be rash in his decision making.

Traits

  • Outlook: Optimistic
  • Sociability: Extroverted, Dominant
  • Expression: Dominant
  • Alignment: Lawful Neutral
  • Motivations: Respect, prosperity, proving himself, friends and allies, Salsola (and it's continued betterment)
  • Fears: Failure, being a disappointment, uselessness

Interests

  • Likes: Respect, business opportunities, exploration, knowledge and reading, quiet spaces
  • Dislikes: Rumors, being backstabbed/tricked, bad business, wasted time, clumsiness, being compared to Hyacinth

Biases

  • Packs: Salsola above all others.
  • Species: None
  • Non-Luperci: Views them as lower due to Salsola's own biases.
  • Social Class: Important to keep in mind in Salsola, but doesn't hold too much sway on overall life.
  • Gender: None
  • Color: None
  • Sexuality: None
  • Age: Elders are to be respected, though, their advice and rules may not always be heeded.

Sexuality

Sanguine is heterosexual, but hasn't had much experience when it comes to anything involving sexuality. He does not deny that there are women he comes across that are attractive, but would rather talk business than he would get close to someone. If he were able to come across someone that he did care deeply about, something after having gotten the chance to know them for more than looks alone, then he would behave differently. He would treat his partner with respect and provide for her with the wealth that he has made for himself through trading. He is still likely to put work over his personal relationships, but make an effort to manage his time better to better suit a more compatible relationship.

Spirituality & Substances

Sanguine doesn't care much for spirituality, though does practice some minor aspects of Khalifism. Because of his darker pelt, he falls into Tak's realm, though is not keen on the idea of live sacrifice. He will stoop to the means of praying to Tak in high times of stress or dire situations for some kind of blessing to turn things in his favor. Because of his uncanny ability to constantly bump into others, he wonders if this is some kind of karma from Tak for not giving him his usual gifts.

Sanguine doesn't partake in any substances, but is a casual drinker. Whenever he is out at an establishment, or taking part in some kind of celebration, he will indulge in a couple of drinks. He doesn't allow himself to drink to the point of being drunk, as he does still have an image to uphold.

Relationships

Family

  • Parents: Sanguine has a different relationship with each of his parents. When it comes to his easy-going father, there is nothing for them to be ill with one another about. He loves all his kids, and so his kids love him in return. If anything, he finds it a shame that one of his siblings turned out to be just like him, if not a little worse. His relationship with his mother is much more rocky. He loves her just as much as he does his father, but the feeling is clearly not mutual. If it is, then his mother is very good at hiding it. He is constantly looking to impress his mother, if only to show that he is a son worthy to her. She is the most important person in his life.
  • Siblings: He has mixed feelings when it comes to both of his siblings. He's always been a bit bitter at the both of them for the very petty reason that they look like they belong to their parents when he does not. He is not very fond of Aurelion's attitude, being that it is so much like their father's. He is also not very fond of the fact that of the three siblings, he is the one that their mother seems to favor. It has made them have a bit of a strained relationship, plus he knows how to push his brother's buttons. His sister is much quieter and serious, so while they may not exactly see eye to eye with one another, they don't really interact all that much. Despite all this, if push came to shove, he cares about his siblings and would stand at their sides, protect them if need be. He does silently pride himself on the fact that he is the only one of his siblings still residing in Salsola proper.

Other Relations

Key Relations

  • Sawyer Cook is the Dealer for the Troupe, and one of the first traders that Sanguine ever had the chance of interacting with, thanks to some help from Morgana. Since then, he has proven to be a valuable asset, and is one of Sanguine's go-to traders when he is looking to do business. Since the opening of La Estrella Roja, he sees this as a good opportunity to seek out more business with the man as well as other members of the Troupe. The two get along very well, and have had no negative interactions.
  • Teagan Stryder is a member of New Caledonia, but someone that Sanguine met when she was still a member of Casa di Cavalieri. She had caught him and some other Salsola members setting up a trade stand during the leadership summit, but he was able to smooth talk his way into letting it slide. They met again in New Caledonia, where the truth was revealed that he was part of Salsola. She became an outlet for him to do business with members of New Caledonia, and while the two of them don't exactly have a solid relationship, they can cooperate with one another. He does find it humorous being sarcastic and joking with her to push her buttons.

Notable Relations

  • Khalifa D'Angelo is another Arbiter within Salsola, someone that Sanguine has known since he first came to Salsola. The two of them have teamed up on more than on occasion for one reason or another. Khalifa seems to be the one person that seems to have both of them doing underhanded deeds on most outings. He wouldn't really consider themselves friends, though that could always change.
  • Clementine Salcedo is a childhood friend to his siblings when all of them were living at the Outpost together. Though the two didn't really interact with one another there, they got to know one another better once they came to Salsola proper. It probably helped that his siblings were no longer in the picture to get in the way. They hit it off well and have made a partnership with one another, strictly for business of course. He aims to help her out in any way that he can, so long as she does the same in return, and a few kind words her way never hurt.
  • Argive Hemlock is a member of Salsola that Sanguine first met as an Outsider. He had been guided towards Salsola by Heine Kaiser, and was impressed with Sanguine's ability to hide his true intentions and the nature of the home he came from. With the backing of both Heine and Helena Troy Lykoi, he extended the offer to Argive to come join Salsola proper. He became Argive's sponsor, the first person for him to ever sponsor. He made sure to set a good example for Argive, and is pleased with how well the man has done with his skills and rise in the ranks.
  • Morgana Revlis is a member of the Sanctus ranks in Salsola, but also an avid trader. She had been the first one to introduce him to Cook as well as help him find his own footing as a trader along with Helena. Since then, the two of them have teamed up more than once to take care of trade deals or seek out rumors that had Salsola's interest in mind. The two of them work well with one another, and doesn't mind not only taking heed of news she has to share, but asking her to come along with business trips if she is needed or interested.

Minor Relations

  • Enemies: --
  • Murders: --
  • Significant Negative Acquaintances: Lyra Salcedo

Notable Past Relations

  • Helena Troy Lykoi is the former Ambassador to Salsola. When she was in the kingdom, she served not only as a role model for Sanguine, but was his first teacher when it came to getting himself acquainted to the art of trading. The two of them would often work with one another in the exchange of goods, and she had been the one to test him when it came time for him to take charge of the deals. He owes a great deal to her, but her disappearance doesn't sit well with him. Dead or alive, he wonders about what actually happened, and in part wonders if she is/would be proud of the progress he has made since first starting out from her teachings.

Skills

Key: Dabbler --> Apprentice --> Journeyman --> Master

Main Focus: Trading, Socializing, Silver-Tongue

  • Merchantry (Journeyman):
A skill that was picked up when Sanguine had come to Salsola proper, and one that continues to develop in his continued stay. What started out rusty feels more like second nature to him. He has had multiple opportunities to partake in trading, be it with loners or members of the nearby packs. He makes it a point to be fair when it comes to his trades and keeps a long list of his own personal inventory. Whenever Salsola or another member is in need of something, he is sure to make that a priority when he is out.
  • Charisma/Social Skills (Journeyman):
What started out as little to nothing has blossomed into a prominent skill to Sanguine. He has gotten better when it comes to interacting with strangers, especially those he is looking to trade with. When it comes to acting, it is almost like second nature, and has a constant air of confidence to help sell when he is acting under his alias, but any other time he might see a need to lie to someone else. His communication skills only seem to get better with each interaction he has, and looks eager to see how new situations might play out for him.
  • Close Combat (Hand to Hand, Daggers) (Apprentice):
A skill developed more out of a necessity than an interest. Realizing there is a certain amount of risk with his work, especially when working with other members of Salsola, there was a need to at least learn how to defend himself should situations turn hostile. Not the kind of person to show off a large, blunt weapon, Sanguine had chosen a dagger as his weapon of choice, while learning hand to hand on the side. After all, he would still need to be able to protect himself should he lose his weapon. He knows the basics of both means of combat, and is looking to refine his skills for the future.
  • Diplomacy (Dabbler):
Even with his built up social skills and work in trading, diplomacy has never been his strong suit. He's much better at making connections for his deals rather than worrying about relations on the whole. Even so, if there is an opportunity for diplomacy, much like if there were one for trade, he would not waste that chance. He has and continues to work with Salsola's Partisan to work hand in hand with both their combined efforts in the Merchant Tier.

Auxiliary Skills and Hobbies

  • Multilingual (Common Tongue, French, German):
Sanguine has grown up using the common tongue, but also grew up learning the native languages to both sides of his family. He caught on more to French than he did German, constantly hearing the way that his father mixed it in with the common tongue for his natural flare. He doesn't use these other languages often, not unless he is sure someone else knows them. He still keeps up with them when speaking to family or if he wants to say something that he knows someone else will not understand or to pass a secret message to someone.
  • Reading and Writing:
Both skills were taught to him at a young age, and only seemed to be expanded upon as he got older. He has had a great interest in reading materials, and can often be seen at Salsola's library, whether it be helping out with the upkeep or checking out books to read. He has had a couple opportunities to teach others how to read, and is fine with doing so again in the future.
  • Animal Care (Apprentice):
Since taking Beurre into his care, it was important that he learned how to care for the mare. He largely had a great deal of help with this from his father, as Beurre used to belong to him before passing her onto his son. He's learned the basics in care for horses, as well as anything specific to his mount's needs. His skills don't extend much past there, as he doesn't have a desire to care for the other animals/horses in Salsola.
  • Riding (Apprentice):
Sanguine knows the basics of riding, coupled with learning how to care for Beurre, this was also taught to him by his father. He doesn't take too much advantage of his horse's more natural labor abilities and mostly uses her for travel.
  • Dancing (Dabbler):
A skill that Sanguine picked up on accident when he was present in New Caledonia along with other members of Salsola. He is not the most experienced, not having much of a chance to put this skill into practice, though if others are willing, he is fine with letting his wall-flower self go to do a little dancing. He has also been known to do this for certain special occasions.

Residence

A tower swathed in ivy, half-encircled by a crumbled stone wall that encloses a small yard. There is a small living space attached to the side of the tower, connected by a weakened door. There are pelts laid out in the center of the room as well as off to the side, serving as the main living space of the residence. There are a few shelves (usually with a couple books resting along them) here as well as a table and chairs to sit at, as well as for guests to relax in. In the main room of the tower, there is a hearth and windows with slots on them. The spiral staircase in the tower leads up to an office. Sanguine has improved upon this space from its former residents, having more papers, books, and a small amount of storage to keep track of some personal inventory.
Previous Residences:
  • Eastern Shack
A modest little shack on the northeastern edge of Millstone near the southernmost fringe of the Pine Barrens. The structure consists of a single kitchen and an add on room with a makeshift cot on one side and a creaky table and a few chairs on the other side where the single tiny window overlooks a small herb garden. The room is adorned with pelts and a homemade stone furnace with a stone for cooking and warmth. The worn old door has seen better days and could do with some reinforcing against the elements, as does the roof and the window which leaks when it rains.

Description:

Beurre isn't the prettiest horse in the world, at least not when compared to many others, even just in Salsola alone. Due to her breed, she is bulkier than most horses, and tall for a mare. Despite this, she is a strong built horse. Most of her fur is tan with some darker accents along the back of her neck, sides of her chest, and on her legs. She has a white muzzle, underside, and socks on all of her legs. Her mane and tail are a bright cream color, and is often decorated with colored beads. These beads are usually some color of green, a color combination that fit both her and her former owner.

Personality:

Though a big and bulky horse, she is very docile to just about anyone that comes across her. It takes a lot to spook her, and even more to get on her bad side. Even in the instances where she does get riled up, it is not very hard to calm her down. She is a very dependable horse, being there when he rider needs her.

History:

Beurre was brought to Salsola by Weaver Valentine when she left Ame Rouge. She remained in his care while she lived within Salsola. After certain events, Weaver left Salsola proper to join his lovely mate, Syringa D'Angelo, to live their lives at Fort Preble. Beurre still remained in Weaver's possession until his children became old enough to make the journey to Salsola proper. Sanguine's siblings got their own mounts and he was gifted with his father's horse. She has been in his care since then, and has once again returned to her home in Salsola.
