Ryo Itou (ry-O ee-t oh) is the son of Alaki and Alice, born 5 July 2012 in Southern Quebec.

Born from an accidental litter, Rin and Ryo are the result of one of many of their father's drunken one night stands when he and his love at the time, Alexander Collins, had an argument and fallen out. Their coyote hybrid mother was drug addicted, an alcoholic and showed signs of violent tendencies, making it clear that she was far from pleased about her unexpected pregnancy. Shortly after her, and her siblings were born, Akihiro was sent to find them only to be turned down, with a letter for Alaki to come collect the pups personally. Upon hearing the news Alaki arranged for the pups to be raised by Ayasha and after collecting them he handed them over to Seere.

Though Ryo never went to see Japan, the family's history, gifts and tales from those like Miwa Itou and Ren gives him ties to the place. However, in 2013, following Rin's failed plot to betray Salsola which lead to his twin's death, Ryo had a major falling out with his half-siblings. He left Nova Scotia for two years, wandering aimlessly on his own, attempting to sort out his emotions. In this time, Ryo developed as a person, and returned in search of his family. While Ren is no where to be found, Ryo did find Miwa, whom was not pleased with his return, but did not turn him away from the pack she was in, nonetheless. They are in the process of rebuilding their relationship from the ground up, however, perhaps it is impossible to mend to the point of what they once had.

Starting out as a Novus, he was a Cessavi of Sapient, with some minor influence from Miwa, up until the pack disbanded in July 2018.

1.  Appearance

1.1  Basics

Essentials

  • General

Though appearing somehow emotionally detached from the world around him, Ryo carries himself smoothly with purpose. He favors being taller and bulkier than others, despite the fact that he isn't particularly over-sized himself. Distant, but not aloof, Ryo's fur has mainly a smooth texture and feel. In Optime form, his hair looks silky to touch. While Ryo does not oppose against getting his hands dirty, he values hygiene (especially when clothed) and dirt rarely clings to his form for long. He does not shake, stutter, or otherwise fumble socially. He has steady hands and an iron grip, sometimes forgetting his own strength unless he concentrates on being gentle. Preferring to blend into the background, he will sometimes hunch over to draw less attention to himself. To those less courageous, he can be intimidating, but for those with an established dominance and an arrogance in their heart, he does not look like a threat.

His fangs are long, but they are only constantly apparent in Secui form. The muscles lining up his back, chest, and legs are a mixture of speed and strength, aimed to make the perfect predator. He is toned from constant hard work and productivity. Ryo's eyes have a tendency to wander off to the side or upwards during social interaction, making him look disinterested in conversation. If he does not have his hands in his pockets, they are usually clenched lightly at his sides. Ryo is not tensed up unless threatened, but he is always alert. It is rare to see him staring off at nothing, for even when he has nothing in particular to look at, the dark Itou looks grounded to reality instead of having his head up in the clouds.

The tail behind him is slightly short, and only grows out fluffy with his winter coat. In other seasons, it is thin and flat, easy to miss entirely in the dark of the night. Ryo has a secretive and mysterious air about him, but not a sly one. He does not subconsciously avoid the light to mingle with the shadows unless he feels smothered. His eyes look trustworthy and his stance dependable. Being the most friendly-looking of his family, in spite of his rather introverted nature, it is uncommon for strangers to be wary of him out of fear that he might cause trouble.

Forms

100 lbs (45 kg)
32 in (82 cm)

Lupus

Ryo's Lupus form is very wolfish, showing little of his coyote blood. Ryo rarely uses this form. Aside from slightly smoother fur than the norm, larger ears and the starburst on his face Ryo's Lupus from has little to distinguish it from any other wolf.

170 lbs (77 kg)
40 in (102 cm)

Secui

Ryo's Secui form is much bigger than his Lupus form; the increased muscles doubling his body weight. In this form Ryo's fur is spiky and wild, making him look even bigger than the form does by default. Ryo's Secui neck is particularly heavily muscled and his teeth are extraordinarily long, making closing his mouth uncomfortable and giving him somewhat of a permanent snarl.

220 lbs (100 kg)
6ft 5in (193 cm)

Optime (Preferred)

Ryo's Optime form is his preferred form. Ryo is almost always clothed when he takes this form and like his half-brother he has plenty of clothes, though he tends to swap between two main outfits. In this form Ryo's mane is fairly long and generally left unstyled or tidied, though it is cleaned. It naturally hangs down fairly smooth, clumping together in smooth spikes that flop down, with two particularly long spikes hanging down either side of his face.

1.2  Miscellaneous

Modifications

  • Piercings: Two silver studs and a silver bar in his left ear.
  • Tattoos: None
  • Scars:
    • None.

Clothes

  • Black zip-up hoodie with white drawstrings and a white fur trim around the hood.
  • White t-shirt with a large black ink-splatter graphic on it.
  • Black cargo pants with a large variety of pockets, buckles, chains and zips down the legs.
  • Two white leather belts. One worn normally, one only looped in on the right and left to hang down on the left.

Accessories

Ryo owns a fairly wide selection of weapons, though he doesn't tend to carry them all at once. Additionally, he also has extra clothing, which can vary from his main outfits. He does like the idea of accessories with little use (necklaces, rings), but hasn't cared enough to fetch any for himself. However, since entering Sapient, which values wealth, he might be more inclined to the idea.

  • Nodachi (Japanese Great Sword) - Brought back from Japan by Ren and given to Ryo, this monster of a sword is nearly as long as Ryo is tall with 5 feet of blade and another foot of handle. The sheath is pure black and the handle black and red with a short red tassel on the end. Ryo almost never carries this sword unless he is intending to use it specifically in which case he carries it on his back on a leather strap running across his chest.
  • Wakizashi (Japanese Short Sword) - Another gift from Ren, this sword is the partner to Ryo's Nodachi and is similarly coloured. This sword is much more compact with a blade just under two feet and a smaller handle. Ryo almost always wears this and should be assumed to have it on him unless otherwise stated. This sword is usually worn on the lower of Ryo's two belts at his left side.

2.  Personality

by Kitty

In the End, You Are on Your Own, Aloof Ally, Bruiser with a Soft Center, Troubled, but Cute

Somewhat of an enigma, it's apparent from a first glance that Ryo has hidden depths to him beneath his carefully controlled expression. He rarely allows himself to outright show much emotion, positive or negative. When presenting himself to strangers, he can either be polite and gentlemanly, or stand-offish and awkward with little in between. This is because he tends to judge people on their appearance unconsciously, despite not being a shallow person. He has little time for people that don't appear immediately useful to him, and can be difficult to befriend outright without jumping through a couple of hoops to prove yourself to him. Still, Ryo is almost never outright rude to people he doesn't know much again, and generally likes to do what he thinks is the right thing in a given situation.

However, he has a dangerous temper on his shoulders. It takes a lot to get him truly enraged, but once he is, he easily throws his morals out of the window. A lust for blood runs deep through the Itou family, and Ryo is no exception to this. He has a tendency to bottle up anger, but this only makes it worse when it is released. When he sees red, he aims to destroy anything in his path. Around close friends, and mainly family, Ryo can be seen making various snide or snarky remarks in a playful manner, a contrast to his normally "no-fun-allowed" persona. Any casual insults he throws their way are rarely serious however, he is a fiercely protective canine and would not seek to seriously hurt or betray those that have earned his trust.

He is a steady mix of brain and brawn, but as much as he tries to be, he is far from invincible. Ryo struggles with leadership and focusing on a purpose that doesn't involve others, as he has been a follower to his siblings for as long as he can remember. Ryo is agreeable, but in a way that works against him, as he can be manipulated by those he trusts into doing things normally against his morals, even when he is in a controlled state. When he finds himself alone, his life has little direction. It seems he needs someone to tell him what to do, or else he will become lost.

2.1  Interaction

  • Scent - Itou, Metal, Grease, Horse, Sapient.
  • Speech - Very deep, low toned voice. Ryo is bilingual English/Japanese and speaks with a more English based accent, than Japanese. Ryo defaults to English if shocked, is trying to make an effort to speak Japanese more to improve his speaking ability.
  • Quirks, Gestures, Etc. - Ryo growls a lot. He growls when he's angry - obviously - but also if he is happy, curious, confused, content or just thinks it's too quiet. It can be hard for those not familiar with him to differentiate the tones of his growls. Alongside this, Ryo ties knots in pieces of string when he is bored or anxious.
  • General Posture and Body Language - Body language is usually passive and unreadable unless around family. Tends to move slowly and deliberately; although as poor control over his tail. Even when Ryo is trying to conceal his feelings his tail usually moves enough to give him away to those who know what to look for.

2.2  Ideals

Interests

  • Obsessions: Power, family, reputation
  • Likes: Wrestling, exploring, hunting, sparring, working, human artifacts.
  • Dislikes: Filth, idiots, cowards, repetitive sounds (especially if loud)

Traits

Quiet, Passive, Controlled, Cocky, Easily wound up, Aggressive, Ticking time bomb.

  • Outlook: Neutral, doesn't tend to think of the future much. Realistic.
  • Expression: Cocky, passive
  • Alignment: Unstable. Ranges from True Neutral to Lawful Evil.

Fears

  • Being Disliked: While not one overly concerned with the thoughts of others, Ryo has a deep buried fear of ended up despised by his loved ones, especially his family. This fear was seeded in him since birth, but has since grown even further after the falling out between his siblings. He is constantly worried his half-sister Miwa thinks nothing of him, and tends to not like letting people in too close, in fear that they might not like what they find...
  • Crippling Injury: Keeping the ones he cares for safe is a key part of Ryo's motivations, and thus obtaining any kind of injury that leaves him unable to do so he is fearful of. Because of this, he will sometimes gets anxious over any injury or illness that falls over him, fearing the worst.
  • Sinking Low: As one of the most moral of the Itous, Ryo despises having to resort to murder or theft, though he has already had to do so on more than one occasion. He aims to build a sense of honor for himself, and give a reputation of dependability to the Itou family, if only for their own gain so that they can accumulate more wealth through trade.

Motivations

  • Love: Secretly a romantic, he is convinced that there is someone made for him out there, somewhere. He would never admit this out loud, of course, but it keeps him motivated on rainy days so he can continue moving about and keep his life going forward. Freedom, or commitment issues, is not a concern for him as he feels since birth he was tied down to his family. To him, gaining a mateship would only be a powerful asset, not a chain.
  • Security: Yearning to keep himself and his loved ones safe, a major driving point for him is to ensure that even if something were to go awry, he will be able to protect those around him. This leads to his love for sparring and swordsmanship, as typically the only thing that causes real danger to those he cares about, are other people.

Biases

  • Pack: Carries a mild distrust of almost every pack around the 'Souls area, due to his past interactions with them. He particularly dislikes Salsola and Anathema, though this goes without saying if you know of his history. The only exception to this (other than Sapient, of course) seems to be Aniwaya? for the moment, as they don't really seem to have a bad apple within their group. He also doesn't mind Cour des Miracles, seeing as he has family living there, too.
  • Non-Luperci: Pities non-luperci; thinks that ones who actually want to remain uninfected have mental problems. However, he usually will not bother them or try to forcibly turn them, seeing them as not worth the effort or worthy of rescue.
  • Size: Out of the people Ryo spends the most time with he is the largest and strongest which he finds somewhat comforting; he dislikes those noticeably bigger and/or stronger than him, and will likely judge them on appearnce alone.
  • Religion: Ryo is wary of those who strongly believe in a religion and let it dictate their actions.
  • Color: Like most Itous, Ryo dislikes pure white wolves.

Sexuality

  • He is bisexual, and has an equal preference of both men and women. It seems he has more "types" of women than men, but that doesn't mean he finds men any less attractive. However, Ryo has a rather low libido and is shy and somewhat submissive when it comes to romance. He doesn't like making his intentions or feelings known unless he feels absolutely secure, and in the privacy of his own mind, he believes in ideas like soul mates and love at first sight. He makes an effort to deny these thoughts, deeming them pesky and unrealistic, but he can't help continuing to believe in them, since they motivate him. Ryo does not like flings and will turn his head up at purely-sexual flirting. He is definitely a die-hard romantic and would much rather be swept off his feet emotionally than pleasured psychically.

Substances

He finds substances a common place, and would not think twice about drinking or taking a drug if someone wants him to or if he feels like it. Although unlike other members of his family, he takes everything in moderation and doesn't participate in anything enough to become dependent or addicted.

Spirituality

Ryo is atheistic and does not believe in god(s). Overall he detests the concept of higher beings and finds the concept of gods a waste of time. Despite his atheistic beliefs, he does indulge to limited degrees in Omamori. Whilst not a strong belief, he does make and carry Omamori just on the off chance they give him luck and protection.

2.3  Abilities

Strengths

  • Hunting (Master): What started out as a prime instinct has been perfected on over the years. Due to Ryo's humanized nature, working to make hunting a continuously easy task was a top priority. He won't be going hungry on his own anytime soon.
  • Leathercraft (Journeyman): While not as talented as some of his other siblings at handy work, Ryo does have knowledge on how to properly skin an animal and make use of it's pelt in various ways.
  • Swordsman (Journeyman): His primary method of fighting which he practices often.
  • Stealth / Scouting (Journeyman):
  • Animal Care (Journeyman): Spending two years on his own with nothing but his horse, and his bird for a companion, the dark Itou has learned how to better connect with livestock, particularly those two species. He has also become much more patient when it comes to dealing with a frustrated or startled animal, a useful talent.
  • Reading (Apprentice): Reads both English and Japanese, but prefers and is more skilled at English.
  • Writing (Apprentice): Writes both English and Japanese, but prefers and is more skilled at English.

While he still does not forgive Ren for what happened, Miwa is the only family he still knows and is capable of protecting at the moment. Therefore, despite their currently dysfunctional and tense relationship, Ryo is still fiercely protective over her, and will follow her wishes most of the time. However, there may be a hidden resentment beneath this, over the fact she favors Ren over him even after everything that happened...
