1.  Appearance

Mountain gets her name from her large, bulky frame, measuring 6.7ft at the shoulder. Her hands and feet are large too, making her almost seem bear-like at a distance. This likely comes from her being a Mackenzie Valley Wolf ortus, as they are known for their large stature and thick coats. Her thick, shaggy fur is black, with streaks of brown, giving her an almost brindle appearance. In Optime form, her mane is thick and unkept, trailing down her back to the base of her knobby tail, puffing up slightly between her shoulder blades. She is also usually hunched over, preferring a more feral look. Her paw pads are black and callous, lined with scars new and old from her harsh life. One scar on her left index finger curves around the top of the finger and is clearly visible up close, as no fur is growing on the scarred skin. Beneath her left breast is another long scar reaching from beneath her arm to the center of her chest, with little to no fur growth covering it. Mountain’s has eyes of deep amber, and her stare is said to be piercing, intense and captivating. Her tail is nearly completely missing, with a fluffy stump representing what is left of it, though it is just large enough to wag (awkwardly, she usually ends up swinging her whole rump).

2.  Personality

Mountain Moss is a hot heated, argumentative and curt to strangers. If she doesn’t like you, she doesn’t mind letting you know, but usually not to your face. No, she is the master at passive-aggressive quips, snarky comments and rude looks. That being said, unless you manage to offend her right off the bat in some way, she will likely get along with you, but tread lightly, it is very easy to get on her bad side. Mountain can hold grudges for a long time, and isn’t known to be terribly forgiving even after “getting over the grudge”. With close companions she is known for being incredibly sweet and giving (much to the surprise and disbelief of the ones she antagonizes). She has a soft spot for smoked salmon, so if you want to be her friend, come with gifts of food. With her mate, she often makes a fool out of herself the few times she visits him at his hut. Giddy, jumping and clingy, she won’t let him out of her sight, and isn’t afraid to be openly affectionate towards him. Her job as a hunter takes up most of her time, and she is very passionate about it.

3.  History

Born on a cold January morning, Mountain Moss her mother’s first and only child, born in a small hut just outside of Vinátta. Large even as a newborn, her mother gave her the title Mountain, hoping that whenever her pup saw these natural wonders she would feel less alone. Her mother was a frail thing, a cream coloured Luperci who was quite poor, relying mostly on the kindness of others to keep herself afloat. Her father was a wandering male that Mountain never learned the name of, but her mother said he was inky black and usually was in his Lupus form. Growing up without much to trade, Mountain quickly began to teach herself how to hunt when she was old enough, using home-made spears crafted of pine, stone and sinews to bring down game. In the beginning, this was simply a means of putting food on the table for her and her mother (who considered hunting “too messy” and "un-lady like"), but soon Mountain discovered how to tan and keep hides. This would spark a lifelong passion, and eventually lead to her leaving her mother at the age of one year to pursue a life as a hunter. Adopting a much more feral life style, she tossed any clothing she had, or used it as bedding, and dug herself out a den in the forest, at the base of a pine tree. During her first week alone, she managed to get into a scruff with a bear, resulting in the large scar under her left breast and her tail being reduced to a stub. She did get a cool bear cloak from the ordeal though. The outside of the den is littered with bone matter, tanning racks, various stone tools and skulls which she carves and hangs on the trunk of the tree. There is also a bird post where her raven, Hagr, is often seated. The den runs deep, with the main chamber branching off from the main run about 4 feet deep to avoid the frost line. Inside her chamber is filled with bits and bobs, and of course, pelts of all shapes and sizes, which she snuggles in to keep warm. Every week or so, she goes into the nearest towns to sell her wares, offering high quality furs, cloaks, bone pendants and bone runes.
