Adoption

Latch has the opportunity to grow and develop. He has never been played before and can easily join as a loner or join Anathema or Inferni.

Tammi reserves the right to reclaim the character if the adopter falls inactive, drops the character, changes huge aspects of the established canon without discussion, or plan to kill the character. See Tammi Adoptions for the full details!

Baubles and art: The adopter will receive all artwork displayed on this Wiki page.

2.  Personality

Gadgeteer Genius × Gentleman Thief × Loveable Rogue × Agent Scully

Latch has a scientific, unflinching mind and a deeply-held belief in the truths that can be discovered through observation and the scientific method. He is precise, methodical, and calculation. He has a knack for figuring things out and can pull apart items and put them back together with relative ease. The downside of this is that he is a bit of a skeptic and has absolutely no patience for the unexplained, fantasy, myth, or religion. Consequently, he can come across as being a bit of an obstinate know-it-all with shades of black-and-white morality.

He has a bit of an ace up his sleeve in that, despite his unwavering dedication to the truth (as he sees it), he tends toward being accidentally roguish. In his pursuits to hunt for newfangled machinery and track down interesting mechanical odds and ends, he has developed a set of skills that lend themself well to thievery. He takes only what he needs and has no problem sharing the spoils of his discovery if he can't think of an immediate use for it.

2.1  Ideals

Traits

Quiet, observant

  • Outlook: Pessimistic
  • Expression: Introverted
  • Sociability: --
  • Alignment: True Neutral-Chaotic Neutral
    • Commits himself philosophically to neutrality. He sees good, evil, law, and chaos as prejudices and dangerous extremes.
    • Avoids authority, resents restrictions, and challenges traditions.
    • Acts naturally, without prejudice or compulsion.

Motivations

Latch has a realistic drive: he often makes his decisions on logical and factual data. However, in pursuit of knowledge, he may act emotionally, such as by preferring some information or scavenging some items over others.

  • Knowledge
  • To disrupt the social status and prove the value of knowledge and intelligence
  • To design, create, and fabricate machinations
  • To uncover mysteries and explore

Fears

  • Fear of being mocked, humiliation
  • Fear of feeling unfulfilled
  • Fear of being overlooked, underappreciated

Biases

  • Packs: General positive understanding of Inferni, but no real sense of loyalty
  • Species: Picked up a slight anti-wolf view from his mother, but cannot properly articulate it or why he holds this small bias
  • Non-Luperci: Doesn't really care
  • Sexuality: Aware of his grandfather's sexuality and is accepting of homosexual and heterosexual relationships, but is unlikely to accept polyamorous relationships.

Sexuality

Up to the adopter to decide.

Interests

  • Likes: calm conversations, thought-provoking discussions
  • Dislikes: --

Substances

Up to the adopter to decide. His mother does not understand the use of drugs or alcohol. Latch may follow in her footsteps or he may be open-minded.

Spirituality

Latch is irreligious and is not accommodating of others' religious views. He sometimes forgets that the faithful don't want to hear why he believes they are wrong and could easily make a few enemies by ranting about the inanity of religion to the wrong person.

3.  Relationships

* Does not know this person by name.

3.1  Family: Massacre, Addiction, Ganesa

3.2  Relations

Key Relations

  • Lock Key is Latch's closest sibling. Latch is eternally exasperated by his brother's optimism, but generally wants the best for him.
  • Carnivore Creed is Latch's least-favourite sibling. He finds her to be too impulsive and brash. He dislikes her bravado and finds her displays of strength tasteless. They have teamed up to scavenge in the past, but they tend to get into too many arguments for anything to ever come of them joining forces.
  • Skeleton Key is Latch's other brother. He finds him a little frustrating, but not nearly as much as Carnivore.
  • River Creed is Latch's sister.

4.  Skills and Inventory

4.1  Abilities

Fighting

  • Education and learning Latch has predominantly learned to fight from his mother, Lucilla Key, as well as play fighting with his siblings. Now that he's older, he's realized he isn't very interested in it and doesn't strive to improve his skills. Unfortunately, he seems to have an inherent knack for it, so he tends to be an unwilling participant.
  • Unarmed combat (Beginner): Thanks to his mother's skills, Latch has learned how to fight in her four- and two-legged forms, but he doesn't enjoy it terribly.
  • Spear fighting (Beginner): He picked this up from a travelling loner.
  • While Latch knows how to fight, he doesn't particularly enjoy it, so in most scraps, he's a little half-hearted and doesn't tend to try very hard.
  • He is impatient, so it would be easy to win a fight against him by dragging it out.

Crafting

  • Education and Learning: Latch is mostly self-taught, but has tried to learn as much as possible from other wandering travelers. He wishes to join a pack and learn even more. He is an eager student and a quick study, so although he has only been able to learn about crafting arts from a few, his interest has allowed him to pursue crafting with a strong sense of dedication.
  • Jewelry making (Beginner): One of his favourite past-times is crafting jewelry and adornments out of leftover bones, antlers, stones, and wood. The greatest difficulty he faces is how to make necklaces, as he does not own or know of many ways to make string, rope, or leather, outside of scavenging it.
  • Dyeing (Beginner): Utilizing plants and berries, Latch has been experimenting in dyeing wood and bone to achieve different colours. He hasn't been able to dye stone very effectively yet, so he is interested in learning how to do this.
  • Latch hasn't had anyone to teach him how to craft, so there is a lot he doesn't know and there is a good chance he might use a poison berry unknowingly!

Hunting

  • Education and Learning: Latch learned all of his hunting skills from his mother, who excels in tracking, stalking, and trapping.
  • Hunting (Journeyman): Latch does well enough as a member of a team, but he wouldn't likely pursue hunting or related skills as a rank path, for instance. He tends to do best as a member of a team, not necessarily leading or driving the hunt.
  • Tracking (Beginner): Latch understands how to track and is reasonably good at it, but he's by no means supremely skilled.
  • Trapping (Beginner): His greatest interest lies with trapping, which he finds incredibly fascinating. He is still learning the ropes, but he hopes to improve.
  • Stealth (Journeyman): In his attempts to find new gadgets and machines to fiddle with, he sometimes has to be careful not to arouse any suspicion. He's quick and sure of foot.
  • Thievery (Journeyman): With a quick tongue and quick fingers, he's got a knack for liberating others' goods.
  • Latch isn't one to lead a hunt or drive prey to a waiting trap. He's reasonably useful in a hunt, but only when he's given instructions and a precise role to play. He doesn't do well with unstructured hunts.
  • While his mother is quite good at it, Latch isn't any good at stalking his prey. It's very much a matter of intent: when he is trying to steal something or is hunting for items in an abandoned human city, he can slink and move through the shadows with ease. For some reason, this doesn't transfer as well when he is hunting.
  • One of his greatest weaknesses with trapping is that he always tries to make his traps too complex. He is always trying to find some new, inventive way to trap his prey, often to his own detriment.

5.  History

Latch was born in the neutral lands outside of 'Souls to Lucilla Key and an unnamed coyote. He journeyed to Nova Scotia with his mother and his many siblings. He is currently residing in Black River Reserve with his brother, Lock Key.
