Laevisa Arena was supposedly born into the Arena family, and as it is with most Arena dogs, not much else is known about her. She has a rich and interesting history that she keeps fairly under wraps, though she seems to take pleasure in hinting at it when the timing and conversation suits her. She is always accompanied by her "familiar", a cheetah by the name of Mafdet. It is rumored that Mafdet has taken many forms and that she has the frightening ability to leave one body when it is dying and enter a new one. Laevisa won't confirm or deny the rumors (rather, she seems to delight in mystery), but some reputable sources have claimed witness to the happening and swear to its truth.

Laevisa is a skilled leather-crafter and jewelry-maker, and dresses entirely in her own creations. She is known to trade anything. When required, Laevisa will disguise herself and goes to incredible lengths to do so.

She arrived in Nova Scotia with Thalia Amaranthe's caravan in the beginning of 2016, and was left to assist her daughter Semini, who was at the time a new mother. Laevisa proved herself to be a source of guidance for the budding family, although eventually her focus became concentrated on the youngest Amaranthe girl, Tiamat. Laevisa took the girl under her wing after her parents' break up, and began an unusual type of training, which was truly a form of counseling. Eventually she left Nova Scotia altogether with Tiamat in the winter of 2016.

Scarlett Arena, Laevisa's adoptive sister and long time work companion, joined them when they passed through Maine. At the beginning of 2017, Laevisa, Scarlett, Tiamat, and Mafdet boarded a ship headed overseas.

Solitary interactions with Laevisa can be done on Lasky forums.

1.  Personality

1.1  Summary

Laevisa was never destined for greatness, at least, not in the eyes of the Onuban courts. She was raised in the shadows of the Amaranthe estate like many other orphans, training to be Thalia's eyes and ears for whichever rival household they were sent. Thalia did not anticipate that anyone in the Arena family would take interest in her, a gaunt and quiet servant girl, and certainly did not believe that they would adopt her as their own.

Laevisa grew up without a chance to discover her own identity. Her innate intelligence and determination allowed her to wear many masks in order to survive. Her adoption did nothing to remedy this; she was forced to behave in a way that would not provoke her wildly narcissistic and sadistic sister. As an adult, Laevisa hides her true feelings very convincingly. She does not know any other way.

Following a series of tragedies, Laevisa became hellbent on one thing: revenge. Despite this, she frequently wrestles with the sacrifices she made, and the consequences of her actions. She thinks a lot about her own damnation.

1.2  Traits

  • Demeanor: Adapts to the company she is in
  • Speech: Her natural voice is deep and marred, sounding something like a low-voiced Eva Green. Laevisa will frequently disguise the smokey quality of her voice, as she believes it draws unwanted attention. Her vocal range is exceedingly adept and when it's necessary she is able to adjust and change her pitch, dialect, and intonation. Her capabilities extend as far as throwing her voice.
  • Scent: Laevisa is strict about her scents, though she will generally disguise herself with local smells so to never seem out of place.
  • Alignment: Neutral Evil
Primarily concerned with their own advancement.
Will lie, cheat, and kill anyone to attain personal goals.
Will use poison and torture to extract information.
May betray a family member or comrade if it is convenient to do so and advances their agenda

1.3  In Depth

Motivations

  • Information: Laevisa values information and will go to great lengths just to satisfy a curiosity. She is of the opinion that most knowledge she acquires will become useful later on.
  • Justice: Justice of a particular crime, or crimes, is the underlying motivation to all of her actions. She is willing to sacrifice everything for this.

Interests

  • Likes: Stories, Music, Tea, Children, Jewelry
  • Dislikes: Fire, Cruelty

Biases

Laevisa is ambivalent to packs, species, age, non-luperci, gender or sexuality. She is most interested in what a person can offer, usually in terms of information, but sometimes goods and skills. She has a knack for identifying the insecurities and weaknesses of others, and will not hesitate to manipulate this to her own gain.

Fears

  • Fire: Given her history, fire is a deep psychological burden. Her PTSD manifests mostly when she is uncovered, thus she keeps herself fully clothed as much as possible.
  • Judgment: Laevisa fears the inevitable judgment of her own soul once her justice has been attained.

  • Facial Features: Her face is very sleek and she has wide almond shaped eyes. Both of her ears have been poorly cropped.
  • Build and Size: Being a mix of very slender dogs, Laevisa is a very thin, yet flexible individual. She usually compensates for the lack of body mass with the layering of fabric and furs. She is never seen truly naked.
  • Humanization: Laevisa is humanized due to her Onuban heritage and roots in Bedaya. She is never seen without her many adornments, head pieces and clothes.

Modifications

  • Scars: She has pink-gray burn scars across the top of her head and down the back of her neck, with some burns over her shoulders. Also has branding scar of three claws in the middle of her chest.

2.2  Closet

Weapons

  • Knives: Typically carries 3 small knives, kept hidden
  • Dagger: Sometimes carries a short dagger at her waist
  • Poison: Will usually carry several poisons on her. One is kept in a jewel, the others are in small leather canteens.
  • Lance: Used mostly as a hiking tool, but also for intimidation purposes or if conflict is expected. Laevisa is knowledgeable on how to wield it properly. She will not bring this out around pack lands unless for specific purposes.

Jewelry and Accessories

Laevisa is an avid collector of all things shiny or appealing in shape and color. She keeps the disassembled pieces in a large leather satchel to be assembled later with her other collection of metallic wires, strings, ropes, fabrics, pliable woods and grasses of all lengths and sizes. Assembled creations are kept in a variety of plain and ornate boxes. Her personal collection includes necklaces, earrings, bracelets, piercings, some that she has made herself, and some that were traded or given to her.

Clothing

Laevisa typically follows the traditions of Bedaya in which women wear thobes, sleeveless mantles, and headpieces, but with some practical enhancements, such as leather arm guards into which long sleeves are tucked, large leather belts for holding canteens, small bags, and weapons. Though generally unseen, she usually wears long gaucho style pants beneath her thobe as well, tucking these into leather ankle guards similarly to her arms to prevent the ends from catching. Because of the layering of such fabrics, she often appears larger or thicker than she actually is. She has about 4 different versions of these outfits that she can mix and match and rotate through, each with different decorations and colors.

3.  Relationships

3.1  Family: Arena, Amaranthe

The Blessed

A true sister not of blood, but of spirit. When all is done, there is only one person she desires to see again.
  • Basir
A man of true kindness. She had loved him beyond the veil of death. Another will see to his peace, but she will see to his justice.
  • Davi, Catarina, Lydia
For what was done to them, Laevisa may never be forgiven. They had been too young to know her face, but old enough to have known deep pain. She has seen to it that they will rest.

The Damned

Iblis was a cursed man and he was friend to no one, loyal to nothing. But the Seer did not deceive. Laevisa knew it would be a steep price to pay for the Goddess of Justice, Mafdet.
Thalia acquired the orphaned girl before she could recall her birth mother's face. She was raised in the shadows of the Amaranthe estate, and at a shifted age was sent as a spy to the Arena family. Through no fault of her own, her loyalties were called to question by the Arena dogs. She suffered greatly at their hands, the culmination of which nearly killed her. Thalia arranged for Laevisa to recover out of Onuba's sight, perhaps as a way to rid of her failure for good. Returning to Onuba shifted Laevisa from pawn to player, and the trust between them is tenuous, though neither have made moves at each other just yet. They are still necessary to each other.
An adoptive sister and partner in trade. They have learned and experienced a great deal together, and the trust is strong between them. Despite this, Laevisa and Scarlett have a complicated history, and all of it boils down to this one fact: Laevisa is going to one day kill Scarlett.
  • Heliodoro Arena
Beneath startling good looks and charming facade lies a cruel, hideous man. He took great satisfaction in his work with her.

3.2  General Relations

Positive

  • Semini: Laevisa came to assist Semini in raising her children under the orders of Thalia, who had paid for her and Scarlett's services. Thalia intended for Laevisa to rear Tiamat in an Onuban way and bring her back to Onuba when she was of age, where she would be personally groomed by Thalia to succeed her as Alta Baronesa. Laevisa had different plans, and earned Semini's trust by acting as a therapist and friend in order to do as she wished with Tiamat. Laevisa subtly manipulated Semini into breaking up with Nikita (by continually suggesting that she was not in love) so that she could use the family's discord to gain Tiamat's complete loyalty.
  • Tiamat: Laevisa initially wanted to use Tiamat as a way to enact her vengeance at Mafdet's suggestion, but slowly grew to be very fond of the girl. She is constantly torn between her great plan and helping the girl succeed in her own goals. Laevisa is very protective of Tiamat, both out of selfishness and selflessness. They were separated toward the end of 2017, but Laevisa has no doubt that she will encounter Tiamat again.

Neutral Relations

Negative Relations

  • Arena Family: The Arena family is a wicked family, and Laevisa knows this well. They marked her a traitor with the cruelest of torture, and would have left her to die if not for the interference of the Baroness. They are responsible for many of Laevisa's traumas, including her fear of fire, aversion to touch, and the death of her loved ones.
  • Nicodemo Arena: Yet another cruel Arena man that has wronged her family. Laevisa does not yet know of her nephew or of Tituba's fate, but she will someday learn their sad story.

4.  Skills and Inventory

4.1  Abilities

Language & Literacy

  • Education and Learning: Laevisa's studies have all been self directed since she was taught to read and write, which began promptly upon her adoption into the Arena family. She possesses a natural curiosity and a deep love of books. This, combined with her affinity for languages and communication, opened a gateway for her during her more formative years in travel and the middle east. Laevisa's aptitude for language was able to truly manifest in her time apart from Onuba. She has subsequently built these acquired skills into her lifestyle.
  • Language (Fluent): Spanish, English, Portuguese, Arabic (various dialects), French. Well versed in Italian, some knowledge of slavic languages, Persian, and Turkish. Can find her way around a language, though is mostly unfamiliar with Asiatic languages.
  • Reading (Master): Can read all the languages she can speak. She has incredible patience with human texts, and will pour over esoteric passages and if possible, cross reference in order to understand them. Given her repetitive nature and habits, she has a very good recollection of most things that she reads. Her memory is phenomenal (it's a muscle that she works out!)
  • Writing (Master): Laevisa is skilled at writing in her three native languages (Spanish, English, Portuguese). Her slender fingers make her capable of delicate activities like this and her penmanship is incredibly neat.
  • Low Speech (Master): Capable of a variety of low speech dialects. She was taught by the Arena traders and improved upon their techniques with her own observation. Combines hand gestures and movements into her low speech, especially with animals for whom body language is key.
  • Oral Tradition (Journeyman): Learned the oral traditions of Alqamar tribe while living with them in Bedaya.
  • Hearing Impaired: Laevisa lets few know this but she does have minor hearing impairments due to her cropped ears. Her deductive ability, combined with her ability to focus, allow her to compensate for moments that it gets the best of her.

Animal Care

  • Education and Learning: While traveling with the Arena Traders, Laevisa learned their cruel and inhumane techniques for animal "training". She also learned about how to take care of them, albeit to a minimal degree. Her time with the Alqamar tribe gave her better insight into animal care.
  • Training (Master): Although she was taught the traditional Arena training techniques (fear, control, drugs, abuse), Laevisa is not cruel like some of her brothers and sisters in the trade. She has done some questionable things, but for the most part uses her superior communicative abilities to persuade and earn the trust of the animals that they deal with.
  • Grooming (Journeyman): She enjoys this mostly for the quality of an animal's skin, but will not fuss overly much about an animal's maintenance.
  • First Aid (Apprentice): Laevisa has limited abilities for tending to animal injuries. She has a removed attitude, bordering on apathy towards animals, and if an animal is sick or injured, she's of the opinion that it has reached its natural end.

Domestic and Craft-work

  • Education and Learning: While recovering in Bedaya with the Alqamar tribe, Laevisa learned some of their techniques in crafting leather and jewelry-making.
  • Jewelry-Making (Master): Laevisa knows the best materials to craft into jewelry, where the best places are to harvest raw material and how to manipulate them to her needs. She has spent countless hours making assortments of jewelry and could do it with her eyes closed.
  • Sewing (Journeyman): Laevisa can create all different types of dresses, robes, thobes, and other non-form fitting garments. She is skillful at stitching and weaving, and likely could pick up other forms of needlework quickly.
  • Leather work (Master): Laevisa knows how the best ways to skin a variety of animals, the ideal conditions for drying and cutting, the animals that make the best leathers, and more. She preferred this type of work the most.
  • Tea Making (Journeyman): On a casual level, Laevisa knows tea time as it's done in Bedouin culture. Her favorite teas are all very bitter, and she likes to make it herself when possible, but will trade for when necessary. During her time with the Arena Traders, she learned more about certain poisons that could be used with tea.
  • Cooking (Apprentice): Laevisa doesn't like to cook. The closest she will get to fire is for tea, but she won't spend any longer than necessary near it. She prefers to do all the preparation for cooking.
