Kenai Stone was born and raised on what she calls the "Far Lands" where it was secluded from much of the public and didn't take too kindly to strangers, but not in an aggressive sort of way. They had their own little circle and that was all that was necessary. Kenai's whole family and extended family lived off the land similar to the Amish in a way, but all had very heavy Scottish accents and spoke the language. It's hard to say if their ancestors ever made the journey from Scotland to where they were now. Nothing that they had as far as documented history indicated the journey outside of a few rumors and suspicious artifacts. Regardless, they lived a peaceful life. In truth, her older ancestors did make the journey from Scotland to Novia Scotia and then finally to North America where they reside now. This is perhaps where Kenai gets the name "Far Lands" from.

When Kenai's parents died, everyone went their separate ways since they lost the foundation of their leadership. Kenai was the last to leave her home and carried little with her. Minus a satchel that held a journey and other small supplies and a handcrafted bow and obsidian knife, Kenai sought to find meaning and purpose in her life. Knowing very little about the outside world, Kenai took her time experiencing different environments and landscapes she had never been taught about before and writing them in her journal. After traveling a few months, she found herself in the Mistfell Vale pack and began learning their customs.

Kenai is more interested now in continuing her apprenticeship to Journeyman in weapon crafting if she can, and making a name for herself alongside finding her purpose. While Kenai searches for the meaning of life and of herself, she wants to have a few different experiences too both good and bad that she normally would not have had before. Kenai wishes to find fun in life and all the work it involves.

You may see her detailed history below.

Plot Potential & OOC Assumptions

Mistfell Vale members and Loners members may assume and reference the following without discussion/asking:

  • Writes in her journal often and sometimes is willing to share her writings.
  • Has knowledge on bow crafting and hunting, as well as farming and homesteading.
  • Has different skill sets in cooking and knows several recipes she wishes to trade.
  • Scavenges often after finding a house for her to live in.
  • May be seen traveling to many places to expand her knowledge on the land around her.
  • Speaks heavy Scottish that is sometimes difficult to understand, as well as curses in Scottish.
  • Wary of others outside of her pack, but generally kind and supportive.
  • Is pretty naive of things she probably shouldn't be naive about, such as suspicious strangers or circumstances leading into danger.

1.  Appearance

1.1  Essentials

Basics

Kenai has a sleek coat in her Lupis form, an unkept coat in her Secui form, and a very fluffy kept coat in her Optime form. Her coat color does not change whenever she shifts. Just her muscle structure and body stature. The only scars she has are from spars and hunts and are deeply buried in her fur. Kenai has often been described the colors of Autumn changing to the darkness of winter because of the color fluctuations in her coat.

Kenai is an INFJ as far as personality goes, or a 2w1 on the enneagram scale.

What this means is that Kenai is the type of person seeking to help and inspire. If there is someone that needs a hand she will typically go in and try to help unless she is feeling particularly "introverty" in that moment. She may not look it, but Kenai is shy and other peoples opinions and impressions about her matter to her so she can sometimes be a little sensitive. Kenai is up-beat and optimistic on some days, quiet and insightful on most other days, and she's always seeking something new to do. She has her down days, but most of the time she looks forward to what's in front of her and how she can best utilize it. Whether that's a small task, or a giant project that may require more help, she typically tries to get a paw in on everything to gain a new experience and some more knowledge. Since she has only known her family to talk to, Kenai can be a little socially awkward. What might not be weird to her may be weird to someone else and she won't understand why unless it's explained to her. Kenai is more of a tomboy since she was raised with two brothers, even though she had a sister, and enjoys a rougher, wilder lifestyle than a girly-girl would, though she knows there has to be others like her out there. She will even try to make up a game or two if the need calls for some fun.

Kenai has a fascination with earth related religions and cultures that respect the land in more of a "detailed" focus than the typical farming and homesteading lifestyle. She prefers a traditional way of doing things than a new age method, unless the need calls for it. She is also fascinated with astronomy and fortune telling, weapon crafting, combat, and falconry. She has very little knowledge on any of these things and would be more than willing to learn from someone. She knows there is more to life than what she is living now and she wants to find it. She likes to practice meditation and focus on her spirituality at times of quiet or whenever its necessary. She communes to her god, Cernnunos, to aid in her hunting or other various needs.

With always wanting to improve herself, Kenai always tries to learn something new so that she can say she has a new skill or trait she can add to her personality. In her opinion, you can never stop learning so she tries not to limit herself or get into situations where she's prevented on learning or practicing new skills she picks up. Kenai will usually listen and watch intently and even ask a ton of questions to really get the handle on whatever she doesn't know. Even if she annoys the other person with all of her questions. Kenai enjoys using her bow making skills as a form of meditation to relieve stress and to ground herself in the moment. It's like its the center of the universe when she's working with the wood, the string, the shape, and even the fine details in the bow and the arrows. If she's really having a down day, she will sit for a few hours and make a bow. In the end, she tests it out and it solidifies her meditation and joy into her soul to make her happy for a very long time.

Kenai has trouble with tolerating a lack of common sense or thinking something completely through. When it comes to someone suffering through something that they didn't think completely through, it irks her a bit but she doesn't hold that against them. They have to learn sometime don't they? When it involves her, it tends to frustrate her a bit more. She hardly acts out on it unless it causes some sort of injury to her or someone else. She has the first aid skill to deal with it, but she would prefer not to use it on "stupid".Some of the struggles Kenai has is when she becomes more inward and solitary. She needs her alone time and there are times Kenai doesn't realize it until the last second when she's either so frustrated she bites someones head off or she needs a change of scenery for a while. Since leaving her home, Kenai has developed a little bit of depression that will go away as she settles into a new home within a pack. She isn't accustomed to being alone for as long as she has been thus far.

One other thing that Kenai struggles with is that she will sometimes become impulsive or tunnel vision on one particular thing. When she becomes so focused on achieving or completing something Kenai will usually devote all her attention and energy into it and sometimes may miss important details. She won't realize it until the last moment when it's probably bitten her in the ass. Any events like this are few and far between unless she is particularly stressed. The only quirk Kenai has is that she despises things that are crooked or not properly placed - even just slightly - and feels an undeniable need to fix it. Even if it's an even number of items on a shelf for display, or something that irks her as "not balanced" or "unequal". Kenai can't explain why she has it or how it came to be in her personality. She does her best to hide it, but it's not always possible.

5.  History

5.1  Before Kenai Came To Be

Long before she was born , Kenai's ancestors, the Brooke family, lived in Scotland along the base of the Cobbler mountain range near Succoth where a small farming village was taken over for a few generations. No one could say when they officially were living there. Other ragtag members besides the Brooke lived there, but it was never for very long. In total, about twenty members lived in the abandoned village. The pack were known as the "Cobblers" because of their living location and skills with homesteading. The Cobblers raised sheep and other livestock, potatoes, wheat, oats, and sometimes strawberries in the right time of the season, and sheared the wool and traded it for other goods. In total, there were at least forty sheep, thirty chickens, four mules, at least ten horses, several cattle, and a few ducks. It was enough to get them buy for the time being with just themselves.

Any lumber they needed for repairs or construction of tools was gathered when most of the chores were done once every seven days with all but five members of the pack. That way, they gathered more than what was necessary, quickly, so that they would not be away from home very long. Most of the pack members didn't wear clothing as it wasn't necessary. If they did, it was for the winter which they received from trade. Some of the wood also was used to craft items for trade such as bows and arrows, tool handles, and spears. These skills were then passed down to the next generations so that they could provide for themselves.

Some were masters in their trade that took on an apprentice, aged at the youngest eight months old, at one time. Apprentices had an apprenticeship for at least three years, but not more than four. Before their apprentice reached journeyman at three and a half years old, he would be sent off on his own for three years before falling under the masters wing once more when he or she turned seven years. This time, he would be taught to succeed the master within a year. Since Luperci life spans lasted to only on average ten years, it only made sense that the journeyman would finish the training in roughly a year so that when he turned ten, a new master could replace him young enough to continue the cycle.

Winters were hardly ever rough at the summit of the mountain, but hunting was scarce. Most wildlife moved away from the harsh snow and ice to better conditions to feed from and that left the Cobblers only to rely on jerky, food in root cellars, and pickled foods to survive off of. Things like rice and oats were often traded for to help with staples and extend the food stores, but most of the luperci relied on what they had saved. Of course there were weekly hunting trips to help. Once every seven days, luperci would send several members out and come back three days later with at least three kills. At most they never brought home more than five deer or elk though occasionally a rabbit or two could be seen tied to a hunters belt.

Once winter was over, seeds that had been saved for the next season were immediately prepared to be planted and it was constant work repair, prepare, and maintain the fields for sowing. Most of it was done by hand and scavenged tools. Like clockwork, the cycle begun again and wolves went about their daily lives as if nothing had changed. New pups were born typically in the spring, though occasionally it happened later, and so the population grew.

In 2010, a severe winter ravaged the land and destroyed many of the buildings that had been standing for quite some time, and the livestock in turn were affected. When spring came back around, the pack salvaged what they could and moved westward closer to the sea. In total, the pack lost almost half of everything they had, and ten of the twenty buildings had caved in. Out of the forty members that lived with the pack, about half wanted to make the move. So the pack split in two, both hoping the other success, and splitting their goods amongst themselves as necessary. The separated half of the pack now reclined to calling themselves the Brooke Family.

Most of the salvaged goods of the stood on rickety carts of the Brookes' and the remaining livestock they had - ten sheep, five horses, one mule, and four chickens, as well as seeds, wool, dried food, and some tools, were brought with them in hopes to land a charter to Nova Scotia, where many travelers told the Cobblers about new found prospects and a temperate climate to support anyone there. Eventually a ship was found and though the captain wanted more than what the pack could offer, he let them on for just the wool and some tools pitying their situation. Thankfully, it would still be enough for when they landed and settled, even if it was going to be a little bit of a struggle.

5.2  First Steps into Canada

In the summer of 2012, Eva Brooke was born during their travels in Nova Scotia and the pack settled down a month later in vast fields suitable for farming and raising livestock. The Cobbler pack had begun to make shelters as best they could with the materials they could salvage. Some traders had to be found for other goods they could not otherwise make for themselves, but they made do with what they had. Rope was made from plant fibers and nails if they were lucky that a trader had some, and "cabins" were made of sapling trees in which the rope tied together. The spaces in between the logs were plastered up with mud and clay, and thus began the makeshift living quarters for the Brooke's. The buildings were not pretty, but they would be warm. The pack decided to set up the cabins closer to the tree line. Most of these cabins were built in the "lean-to" style and were not pretty in appearance, but they were functional. Most of these cabins were built between trees or in other sheltered areas. With not knowing how the winters would be, the pack prayed that this would be enough protection. After the rough first couple of years' winters, the pack was comfortable enough to begin living life normally and felt comfortable again.

Eva turned three in 2015 and most of her favorite things to do was chisel and wood work on occasion, but she mostly favored archery. At this time, the pack had once again grown to almost forty members. This time, the Brooke family took advantage of allowing others in that knew the land better than they had, thus their collective knowledge grew beyond what they were capable of in Scotland. It would also be about the time Revan Stone had made his appearance in this pack also even though no one knew officially how he had. One day he had come to trade goods with some of the members and then eventually fell in love with Eva. It was history after that.

Revan Stone was known for his hunting prowess and his skills with combat. Most of his weapons were his fangs and claws, but he prized a carved obsidian dagger in a bone handle. He rarely talked about how he obtained it or if he even crafted it. Pain would appear on his face when it was brought up, so hardly anyone spoke of it. In the end, it was forgotten. Revan began to court Eva quite heavily after watching her practice archery one day, and in the fall of 2015, Revan asked to marry Eva in which she accepted, and a ceremony was held two weeks later. Revan and Eva would not conceive pups, intentionally, until the following spring to avoid the harsh winter.

5.3  Kenai's Birth and First Year

Eva conceived four pups in the springtime of 2016. Those four pups were Kenai and her siblings Smith, Rae, and Josh. Eva was mostly the care-taker of the family after their birth but would often hunt with Revan whenever he sought the chance. Their favorite pass time would be to ride off on a trail for a day or two after their work was done.

Kenai was the first to be born, but the last to open her eyes. While she was more cautious and selective of the three, she did grow to have her own outgoing personality. A few months after they were big enough to walk and talk mostly on their own, their education started. Every morning they went to a nursery where they were taught the ways of life in the Cobblers past, and the Brooke Family future. History was boring to Eva, but she made use of it while Josh and Rae both often committed to skipping school and instead learning to fight from Revan. Revan secretly would encourage them to do this once in a while, but under the watchful eye of Eva that was put to a halt. Other topics they were taught were tool crafting, farming, animal husbandry, and recognizing the seasons and weather patterns. It was a lot to put into ones brain, but eventually Kenai and her siblings picked it up as fast as anyone else would.

Smith was the quietest of the four, taking it up to himself to learn writing and cartography and eventually teaching Kenai these skills. He even gifted her a leather bound journal of her own with a charcoal pencil. Rae and Smith continued to spar with their father. Rae was the more outgoing and extroverted of the bunch with her explosive and feisty personality. She hardly had the patience for anything. Josh was the middle of the four of them, but he was also the wisest. Josh was expected to take Revan's place should he pass away. Josh preferred working with wooden swords while Rae enjoyed beating him with a club from time to time.

When they each reached about eight months old in the beginning of autumn, their apprenticeships began. Both Rae and Josh took up combat skills as their apprenticeship, Smith became a scholar which was expected of the quiet yet intelligent pup, and Kenai took on weapon crafting. She admired making bows the most for their complexity, character, and simple use. When winter came, all apprenticeships were put on halt to ensure their survival and in spring apprenticeships continued where they were left off. Every day, Kenai and her siblings would spend hours reading, listening, and practicing their skills with their masters around their daily chores. In total, they spent about four to six hours with their master before heading home for dinner and going to bed. They were allowed one day off to themselves to goof off and recover before starting the whole process again. Once the pups were old enough to not need baby-sitting anymore, Revan and Eva began hunting and doing their old hobbies again as per usual.

Apprenticeships for the pups would last until they reached three and a half years old, much like how it was in Scotland, and their skills would be tested before reaching Journeyman. Kenai had much longer to go, but at a year old she was showing promise with bows. On quieter days, she was often outside the village and writing about her thoughts and feelings down as well as the days events. Occasionally, a sketch or two would be also seen on the cloth paper.

Smith and Rae were already being fast tracked to their journeyman tests since they showed such promise, and Smith was taking his time though many rumors spread about that he 'already had' achieved journeyman, but they wouldn't announce it until he reached three and a half years old. Their apprenticeships came to a halt when a few of the Brooke pack members brought Revan in on a stretcher in March of 2018.

5.5  Kenai's Second Year and Her Big Journey

It had been a hunting accident, and a lethal one. No one was quite sure what happened, but apparently it had been a hunt that went wrong and it costed Revan his life. This devastated Eva to the point she no longer hunted or her other chores. Josh and Rae also lost the will to fight, though Rae was often seen coming home with a deer a day as if to pay homage to Revan. Smith also was quiet and hardly talked, but he continued his work. Kenai wept alone in the trees for some time before assisting Eva with what she could. The pack held a burial ceremony as Eva slowly became solitary. Four weeks later, Eva died in her sleep. It was said she had died of a broken heart. It hit Kenai and her siblings the hardest.

After that, the foundations of Kenai's home began to slowly wither away. Kenai no longer felt attached to the village she lived in, Rae became restless and ran off shortly after her mothers death, and Josh became a stranger by burying his feelings into combat. Smith seemed unchanged mostly, but he spoke less. If Kenai tried to bring up anything related to their parents, he would gather his belongings and ask to be spoken to another time. Kenai simply continued doing what she could knowing that the pain in her heart still existed.

Kenai struggled with her apprenticeship to the point where she couldn't do it anymore. Kenai was four months away from being tested at minimum so her skills were still basic, though they didn't lack skill. Her bows were proficient enough to take down several deer before preventative maintenance was required, and any clubs or wooden objects were decently crafted before they too also showed wear. Most of the wood she worked with anyway wasn't as good as some of the hard woods. When Kenai made the switch before her apprenticeship ended, her produced crafts were much better in quality.

Once her apprenticeship ended, Kenai felt the need of taking a break for a while from the village and finding her own purpose in life. Since losing her parents and connections with her siblings it just wasn't the same. So packing her bow, a satchel containing tools for woodworking, food, her journal and charcoal pencils, and her fathers obsidian dagger she stole from Rae after he died, Kenai set off with little else. She would spend quite a while out in the wilderness before she saw anyone else. She lived off the land, hunted, and experienced new environments she had never seen before. Any thoughts of her siblings and her pack were cast aside for later reviewing when she wasn't traveling.
