Griffin Winsor is a sailor at heart, though he's been landlocked for quite some time. He is currently traveling with the The Troupe after being purchased/freed from slavers by Calrian and Mateo.

He was the former First Mate and Captain of the Dancing Courtesan, a major trade vessel that sails between Lisbon and Barbados. The ship survived over 30 voyages across the Atlantic, making it one of the more reliable ships known to the civilized luperci world. While Griffin worked the boat, they primarily transported sugar and tobacco from the Caribbean and brought with them spices and fabric from Europe, and sometimes ferried passengers if they paid a pretty penny.

Griffin met Tiamat when she and her strange companions joined the Dancing Courtesan on its 31st journey across the Atlantic. They decided to help each other with their respective problems and feelings developed between them, though it only culminated in a kiss. Not long after, Tiamat discovered that he had deceived her of his identity and shut him out. Griffin was struck deeply by her rejection, and at the end of 2017, he promoted his First Mate Charles to Captain and left the Dancing Courtesan in order to redeem himself to Tiamat.

He had a hand in helping Tiamat in Onuba, and for the longest time afterwards, traveled with her party. While stationed in Portland, things between them came to the fore and led them to part ways. Heartbroken, he stumbled into the wrong place at the wrong time and was captured and bartered as a slave. After being passed around for little more than a month, he finally ended up in the hands of another Amaranthe and, ironically, his former rival in love, Mateo.

1.  Personality

1.1  Summary

Griffin is confident, self-assured, and doesn't really care what anyone thinks about him (or so he believes). He can be a jerk; he doesn't hold back from saying something mean or poking at people's insecurities, especially if they are getting on his nerves. He is incredibly perceptive in some ways and utterly oblivious in others - as a result, sometimes the line of appropriate and inappropriate can be blurry to him. He is childish but ultimately well-intentioned. He has soft spot for virtuous women, though he himself doesn't have the greatest moral compass. Initially he was only out for himself and his loyal crew-mates, but with some help he realized his self-absorption was a bad thing and wants to do good (and maybe prove to a certain someone that he's not such a bad guy, honest). He's trying his best now to be a better person, though his arrogant nature still gets him into trouble. He is a secret dork.

1.2  Traits

  • Demeanor: Mostly laid-back (but don't insult his skills or his ship), prideful, likeable, roguish
  • Speech: He doesn't have a noticeable accent and speaks informally most of the time. He curses a LOT.
  • Scent: Wood, woodsmoke
  • Sexuality: Painfully hetero
  • Myers Brigg: ESTP
  • Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Likes to indulge in everything
Always looking for the best deal
Doesn't care what happens to others, yet will not necessarily go out of his way to harm others

2.  Appearance

2.1  Basics

  • Species: Dog (by the looks of it, he has some chocolate labrador mixed in)
  • Fur: His coat is short and sleek, and seems to protect him well from water!
    • Optime Hair: Dark and shaggy, has an "effortlessly charming bedhead" appeal
    • Nose and Claw Color: His nose and his claws are all a pinkish hue!
  • Facial Features: Slender and definitively dog-like
  • Build and Size: He's an average height - taller than most females but not as tall as a tall male. His figure is trim and hardy - he looks like he's lived on a ship his whole life, with very defined arm musculature.
  • Humanization: Born and raised on a boat, Griffin has only ever known the ways of living as a sailor. He has probably forgotten how to shift.
    • Lupus: 80lbs (36kg) ↔ 29in (74cm)
    • Secui: 145lbs (66kg) ↔ 40in (102cm)

3.  Relationships

3.1  Key Relations

  • Tiamat: Griff has a complicated history with Tia, but the long and short of it is that Griffin is in love with Tiamat and perpetually heartbroken about it. Out of everyone (aside from her brother), Griffin has known Tia the longest and has seen her through all her changes. Whether or not she returns his affection, his care for her is deep and unwavering. When he tried to help her through her own breakup, and things got a little messy, he realized that that she needed to find herself again without anyone's muddling influence. He left her and their group, thinking it was the right thing to do for the both of them. He doesn't know how to get over her, or if he ever will, but he's trying his best one day at a time.

3.2  Family: Winsor

  • Mother: Luciana
  • Father: Declan Winsor
  • Siblings: None
    • Half Siblings: A bunch on his father's side, unknown on his mother's

3.3  General Relations

  • Mara Savoy & Agrippa De Le Poer: His FAVORITE lesbians.
  • Rahab De Le Poer: His feelings for Rahab evolved from neutral, to annoyed, to a crush, back to annoyed, and then finally settled on she's good. He thinks she is a good person, a good kisser, and just all around a good egg despite the small mess they made with each other.
  • Tsolin Himaa: Stupid sexy Tsolin is the pirate angel to Griffin's Starlord. Griffin quite likes Tsolin, even though Tsolin is so blatantly cooler than him. Tsolin's a man's man, and a woman's man, just like, some kind of dude y'know. They have (indirectly) kissed each other through Tia.

Neutral Relations

  • Mateo Salcedo: Mateo was a competitor for Tiamat's attention, until he flung himself out of the ring just when he was about to win it. Griffin begrudgingly tolerated Mateo for the duration of their journey, and after he left Tiamat (which just blew Griff's f*ckin mind), he finally felt fully at liberty to hate him. Anyway, those feelings got flipped on their head when Mateo ended up being the one to rescue Griffin from slavery, so he's back at the beginning with Mateo. Who knows, maybe they'll be friends?
  • Lotan: Griffin is extremely wary of Lotan and avoids him at all costs.
  • Anri of Soul: Anri was an alluring garbage creature who made him think he was gonna get some and really she just took his stuff!! What the heck!! >:I She's still hot though, he'd totally sleep with her.

Negative Relations

  • Jackal whose name Griff can't pronounce: Asshole who enslaved him. Griff hopes he dies.
  • Declan Winsor: Griffin's father, Declan, was the infamous Captain of the Dancing Courtesan before he was overthrown by his son. He was extremely competent at sailing. He was also a well known abuser of women, and Griffin hates him a lot, and he's pretty sure Declan killed his mom, whether by accident or intentionally. The first chance they got, they kicked him off the ship and Griffin couldn't give a damn about his well-being, wherever he is.

4.  History

Griffin is the son of Declan Winsor, who was the Captain of the Dancing Courtesan before Griffin overthrew him. Little is known about his mother Luciana, who died in childbirth and left Griffin in the care of his father. Griffin lived most of his life aboard the boat learning from Declan, an experience most would consider a privilege as Declan is said to be one of the best sailors in the Atlantic. Over time Griffin became aware of his father's exploitative nature, especially of vulnerable women, and quickly grew contemptuous of him.

Everything changed for Griffin when he encountered a strange young passenger in January of 2017. Initially, he meant only to humor her furtive antics (and lied about his identity to see what she might tell him), but soon became infatuated with her wide-eyed idealism and desire for justice. When she insisted on helping him take the Captaincy in exchange for his help freeing her godmother, Griffin agreed. They plotted together, and after Tiamat observed the crew's habits, she devised a plan to "win" the fealty of the crew by gambling with trick dice and betting the only thing she had of value to them: her virginity.

Scarlett Arena, aware that Tiamat was using Laevisa's trick dice, put an end to their plans by revealing the treachery to Declan.
