Gehenna Asylum is a dog-coyote-wolf hybrid, primarily Borzoi and sighthound in heritage. He was born to Kharma Asylum and Aleksei Tarasova in 2012 in Sonnerie. He came to Inferni in 2013 and began living with his extended family alongside his father and sister in -- despite being low in coyote blood (and appearances).

1.  Appearance

1.1  Basics

Essentials

  • Species: Gehenna's outward appearance is almost entirely drawn from his mother's Borzoi and Saluki heritage. His bodily shape and build, and various other features are all more Borzoi than anything else.
  • Fur: His fur is derived from his doggish heritage, much like everything else about him. It curls in places, especially around his neck, throat, and chest; in other places, it has a longer, almost silken appearance (especially around the tail and rear leg's feathering). He is well-suited to cold climates, as his coat is double-coated.
    • Optime Hair: His hair falls in long, wavy curls about his head to about shoulder length; it is natural and unstyled.
  • Facial Features: He has laid back, "floppy" appearing ears -- though they are capable of full erectness when he is alert. His head is "dolichocephalic shaped" (a long muzzle bearing virtually no stop).
  • Build and Size: Gehenna is a built sprinter in all forms. He is tall and lean, with a deep chest and long legs. Though he appears willowy, almost awkwardly tall and thin, this belies the compacted musculature of a natural athlete. Though Gehenna is slightly smaller than a what a full sighthound should be, this difference in size is minor.

Coloration

  • Fur:
    • Alabaster is his primary coat color -- his ventral half is entirely this color; above and below his eyes, the underside of his muzzle, a ruff between the Bison Hide of his neck and that of his shoulders, the undersides of each leg, and each rear leg entirely below the "ankle."
    • Bison Hide colors his forehead, cheeks, and the back of his neck. On his body, it colors his dorsal half.
    • Armadillo decorates his eye dots, shoulders, spine, the base of his tail, and is ticked into the feathering of his rear legs.
  • Markings:
    • Merlin is brindled into the aforementioned Armadillo color.
    • Millbrook colors his muzzle.
  • Eyes: Totem Pole
  • Optime Hair: Primarily Bison Hide. It has wide streaks of Armadillo interspersed seemingly at random, with thinner tendrils of Alabaster occurring with less frequency.

Modifications

  • Scars:
    • Short (~4 inches) scar. Runs perpendicular to his jawline on the left side of his face.
  • Piercings: No.

Adornments

Gehenna is moderately humanized, as he usually wears clothing in Optime form. Nonetheless -- he does not have any permanent humanized modifications (piercings, etc.). Given his avid shifting and unstyled hair, he is easily mistaken for a completely feral canine.

  • Outerwear: Awesome cape/cloak thing that is all beat up but was once ~*fancy*~. It has lots and lots and LOTS of POCKETS.
  • Outfit: Red drapey cloth around waist, brown vest with red stitching and other decoration, black SUPER FLOOFY PANTS that are tied to manageable size with black cloth below the knee.

He has all the appearance of a Borzoi -- long-legged, sleek, and with a deep torso. Gehenna is often seen in his four-legged form, as he prefers it for running and distance travel both.

Although still quite doggish, he trades some sleekness for bulk in this form. He is nonetheless an especially slim, un-bulky Secui.

Optime (Preferred)

Lanky and sleek. Gehenna is very tall, with long timbs and a great reach. Gehenna is often seen in his two-legged form, though not exclusively.

Interaction

  • Speech: Not especially well-spoken -- lots of incorrect grammar, etc. He is very friendly and charismatic in speech, though.
  • Scent: Usually smells of Inferni, if faintly (he spends a lot of time wandering around).
  • Quirks, Gestures, Etc.: Gehenna uses a lot of gestures to accentuate his speech. He talks with his hands, waving them about avidly when he talks. When standing or it is otherwise convenient, his whole body may join in the gesturing as he acts things out, etc. He is quick of movement, and generally comes across as rather intense and focused in conversation due to all of the above.
  • General Posture and Body Language: Gehenna stands very straight, accentuating his tallness. He has excellent posture, and stands and sits with a straight back and squared shoulders.

2.  Personality

  • Extroverted, Social, Relatable
    • Gehenna is an extroverted personality -- he likes being around others, making friends, and meeting new canines. He dislikes being alone and isolation immensely -- he is dependent on his group. He is agreeable, and not particularly headstrong -- he is willing to go along with the group on most things, primarily due to laziness.
    • Gehenna is decent with others -- he doesn't have much trouble figuring out motivations or relating to others, excepting where a canine has an extremely strange/different perspective from him. He's also not great at scheming or seeing the "big picture" of someone's actions -- he's better in the moment and in conversation, reacting to what he perceives, as he doesn't tend to spend a lot of time thinking about his social interactions after they happen.
  • Passive, Agreeable
    • He does have rare instances of very strong determination (going with dad, wanting revenge on Dom). However, these are instances of grudgey, revenge-driven behavior. He can be judgemental where it concerns things he completely doesn't get and somewhat unforgiving toward mistakes: he is somewhat unforgiving, liable to take offense and refuse apologies.
    • He strongly prefers to run away from and avoid mistakes and things that make him feel uncomfortable. He pretty much scrubs his memory and moves on with his life if made uncomfortable.
  • Superficially Nice; Inner Jerk Lurking
    • He is superficially nice, and thanks to his talkative, outgoing personality and agreeable nature, he's fairly charismatic. In the end, though, he always thinks of himself first and will prioritize himself pretty obviously and overtly, if push comes to shove. As nice as he seems, he's definitely not a "loyal to the ends of the earth" friend. He thinks of himself as extremely loyal and helpful to others, however, and generall appears extremely nice.
  • Naive
    • He is somewhat naive, especially about dangers, nastiness in the world, etc. (e.g., "Battles are awesome! Yay war! I'm gonna fight and be awesome!"). He is derisive toward "romantic" naivety... yet just as susceptible to that kind of naivety, too.

  • Sociability: Extroverted; Gehenna dislikes being alone, and prefers to spend his time in someone's company.
  • Expression: Mildly submissive, though this is primarily due to indifference rather than anything else. Gehenna is not very motivated by rank or authority.
  • Alignment: Chaotic neutral

  • Himself -- while he's not devoted to himself or entirely arrogant, he does put himself first before anyone else. He doesn't want power or have lordly aspirations or anything like that, but he won't hesitate to put himself before another canine or his group if it's necessary. He doesn't go out of his way to do so, but will do so all the same.

Spirituality

  • Belief in a higher power, though lacking in an organized religion (he found Inferni's chapel thing weird).

Fears

  • Being alone and without a group -- Gehenna cannot imagine surviving without a close network of others!

  • Species: Gehenna doesn't have much in the way of a species bias. He is weird about being Inferni as a Borzoi and a heavily dog hybrid, but as nobody bothers him about it, he doesn't really care.

  • Has tried alcohol, marijuana, tobacco -- enjoyed all three, and will occasionally seek them out. Social use especially common with Gehenna; he doesn't see the point of drinking or smoking alone.
  • Experimental -- he will dabble with almost anything, given others to do it with.

Key Relations

  • Arkham Lykoi is Gehenna's dad. Gehenna doesn't know him well but did not want to stay anywhere near Dom after what happened, so he followed after Arkham.
  • Avaiki Asylum is Gehenna's sister. Gehenna loves his sister and loves her more for coming away with him, but he isn't above poking fun at her. Somewhere in him, he likes her idealism and considers it precious.
  • Snapdragon Lykoi is Gehenna's cousin. He likes her brash personality and fearlessness, and considers her a good friend.
  • Kara Lykoi is Gehenna's cousin. She stayed in Sonnerie for some time and formed a friendship with Gehenna.

Positive Relations

  • Neraka Tarasova and Avernus Tarasova are his siblings, left behind in Gehenna's birth pack. Gehenna misses his brother and sister, but thinks it was a mistake that they stayed behind. Gehenna now knows they came north, but he hasn't seen them and knows they were hanging out with Dom so they're kind of out-of-sight, out-of-mind for him.
  • Aleksei Tarasova is Gehenna's mom. She died when Dom accidentally caused her to smash her face against a table. Gehenna love(s/d) his mom a lot but it hurts to think about her so he doesn't.

Neutral / Negative

  • Domovoi Tarasova is Gehenna's half-brother. Gehenna really does not like Dom's face and he tries really hard not to think about Dom, his mom, or anything having to do with that mess. He avoids the subject in thought and conversation.
  • Svasra is the mother of Saut, Gehenna's son. They met near Halifax. Though she pointed a spear at him at first, they quickly got over themselves. Though Gehenna and Svasra thought they were in love (it was very sappy and gross!) Svasra's pregnancy with Saut caused Gehenna to about-face and retreat. She later dropped the puppy off on Inferni's borders -- and doesn't seem to be in Salsola anymore, either.

4.  Skills and Inventory

4.1  Abilities

Sprinting and Running

  • Education and Learning: Gehenna didn't actually have to do anything to achieve this skill: his Lupus-formed body is simply made for it. Speedy and agile, he was running sprints as soon as his legs developed enough to do so, simply for the joy of it.
  • Sprinting (Master): Gehenna is seriously fast on flat ground and in his Lupus form. Running down rabbits, etc. is nothing to him!
  • Eyesight (Master): Again a naturally endowed ability, Gehenna's breed was made to sight prey at a distance and sprint after it. He has exceptionally keen eyes, and is drawn to distant movement.
  • Endurance: While he is an excellent sprinter, Gehenna does not have great endurance: he cannot keep up his top speed for great periods of time. Long-distance travel on foot is taxing for Gehenna.
  • Lazy: His lack of endurance does translate to other areas of his life. He is not lazy, exactly; he'll do what he's told, and in a manner that's mostly acceptable. However, he won't go out of his way to exert himself unnecessarily.

Healing

  • Education and Learning: Gehenna began learning in spring 2014, primarily by studying with the ancient healer Harosheth Kimaris of Inferni.
  • Plant Medicines (Dabbler): Gehenna learning to create medicines from plants.
  • Wound Healing (Dabbler): Gehenna learning to heal wounds.
  • Gehenna has just begun learning and you'd be crazy to put your faith in his skills. O_O

4.2  Inventory

Residence

  • D'Neville Mansion, 1F06
    Gehenna gutted this room of everything prior to moving in. Only a fireplace remains of its prior furniture. Shelves, a desk, and chair were stolen from the pile of trash in the sitting room. Various pelts and scraps of fabric make up his bed. Gehenna really only uses the room for sleeping; he doesn't spend a whole lot of time alone, and so doesn't occupy his room frequently. The door is usually left wide open, regardless of whether he's inside or not.

Trade

Gehenna will accept trade where it comes to him, but he doesn't typically seek it out unless there's something he needs in particular (e.g., healing supplies for Harosheth and the hospital house, etc.).

Gehenna was born in 2012 in a group named Sonnerie to his mother, Aleksei Tarasova. He did not meet his father, Kharma Asylum, for some time. When he did, it caused a fair amount of drama in Gehenna's life -- including the death of his mother. He left his homeland, following after his father to Inferni in 2013.

Timeline

2012

  • 12 October 2012: Born to a group called Sonnerie, consisting of gypsy dogs of Borzoi and Saluki influences. Their mother, Aleksei Tarasova, had entertained their father, wanderer Arkham Lykoi/Kharma Asylum, for some months. He had departed the prior month, though this hadn't affected Aleksei; she'd understood their relationship was primarily physical. Aleksei has an elder son, Domovoi, who is not so pleased with Arkham's disappearing act, but is generally quiet about this. He and his mother band together to raise the children, with the assistance of the rest of the pack.

2013

  • ~January 2013: Arkham returns to Sonnerie. Aleksei is happy to have him back. Dom, however, becomes enraged at his return -- he fights Arkham, who doesn't try to fight back to any great extent. Aleksei interrupts the fight, becoming angry with Dom. She tends to Arkham's wounds and brings him back to the main group. When left alone, though, Dom again attacks Arkham in attempt to drive him from the pack. Aleksei attempts to interfere, but Dom shoves her away and Alek snaps her neck against a table. Arkham flips and attacks Dom in earnest, a major fight ensuing between the two. Gehenna flings himself into the fray and receives a scarring injury to his face; Arkham loses an eye after being beaten in the head with a garden hoe a few times. The rest of the pack, drawn by the uninjured puppies, ends the fight.
  • February 2013: Weeks of recovery later (carefully segregated from Dom), Arkham sets off -- Gehenna and Avaiki follow him, though Neraka and and Avernus remain behind with their birth pack.
  • August 2013: Joins Inferni!

2014

  • February: Gehenna meets Svasra -- who sticks a spear in his face. Nevertheless, they meet up again later, and hit it off pretty well. This eventually becomes romantic.
  • June: Gehenna starts learning healing.
  • July: Totally in love with Svasra, Gehenna plans to move to Salsola. He goes so far as to tell Avaiki. Unfortunately -- Svasra shows up on the borders and tells Gehenna she's pregnant. Cue an about-face from Gehenna, who doesn't really want anything to do with baby. He goes about his life thereafter, "cured' of his icky love-fest.
  • August: Svasra shows up on the borders of Inferni and dumps Saut Asylum off with Gehenna. Gehenna turns around and foists the child off on Kaena kind of accidentally -- he puts the puppy inside of the Great Village and Kae is first to find him, so he kind of becomes her charge by default.
