Duncan de le Poer is a member of Salsola presently ranked as The Family. As a Vedetto he serves the pack as a scout, regularly patrolling the borders and less populated areas of the pack's territory to ensure no one trespasses upon them. As a highly skilled carpenter he also aims to claim the job of Artesano.

He was born in Airgid Gleann to Síleas Lennox and Fechín de le Poer. The result of an unplanned affair, he was largely raised by his father's extended family within the Macha Tribe. When he turned one his grandfather suggested he engage a rite of passage, so Duncan agreed to go on a journey which landed him in Freetown where he met Siv and Kynda Helsi, who after learning his identity decided to bring him home with them. He joined Salsola in September 2015.

Although Duncan lost his home and nearly his life in the fall of the Red Star he went on to assist in the inevitable defeat of The Five who had been tormenting Salsola in early 2016. When the Second Boreas Conflict broke out he did his best to defend his pack again and though he had made some friends in Inferni all allegiances had to be thrown aside when the Inferni-Salsola War threw a wedge between the two packs.

  • Animals: He's pretty good with riding and caring for horses and can teach if compensated.
  • Trade: He's got pre-made wooden items, tanned pelts, honey, mead, and wax to trade.
  • Duncan has his eye on the Striker rank of the Shield faction and could use threads involving scouting in and around Salsola, protecting the borders, and defending the wild Bay horse herds!

1.  Appearance

1.1  Basics

  • Species: Duncan is an almost seamless blend of wolf and various breeds of dog. At first glance one could easily mistake him for a pure wolf but a keen eye and closer inspection would reveal slightly oversized ears, a marginally shorter and wider snout, and a somewhat leaner and more streamlined overall body shape. Aside from that though, he is pretty much all wolf with big paws, thick pads, and a robust frame beneath a generous amount of toned muscle.
  • Fur: His fur is average all around. Not long but not short, not thick but not thin, not wiry but not plush - it is well mixed and rather soft, short overall but thicker and slightly feathered on his cheeks, neck, chest, haunches, and tail. It thickens dramatically through the colder months and thins out nicely in the warmer seasons but is smooth and naturally well groomed year round.
    • Optime Hair: He keeps his hair long and maintains it well. It is most often pulled up into a half pony-tail with a few shorter strands falling into his face or completely drawn up into a messy man-bun when he needs it all out of his way, particularly when he's working. He very rarely leaves it all loose.
  • Facial Features: Aside from an unnoticably shorter and wider muzzle and slightly oversized ears there are no distinguishing features about his head and face that would suggest he is anything other than a full-blooded wolf, though the most striking feature of his face are his piercing glacier blue eyes.
  • Build and Size: He is only slightly above average in size, taking after the many other males in his family and sporting a heavy and formidable frame. Where he differs from his kin is where his form is more slender and streamlined, having slightly longer legs than average.
    • Lupus: His most average looking form though it tends to look more doggish than his secui and optime, showing his larger ears and slender body more than his other forms. Though he uses it interchangeably with his secui he tends to favor the latter for its size and more brutish appearance, preferring to hide his more dog-like features around his much more wild looking packmates.
    • Secui: He is much more stocky and bestial in his halfling form, taking on much more muscle and bulk in his upper body, particularly around his shoulders and neck. His dog features are practically impossible to see in this form and he looks very much like a full-blooded wolf, especially with his thicker legs and bigger paws to go with the rest of his heft in secui form.
    • Optime: He is tall, lean, and slender for the most part. Muscular but well toned, not bulky or beastly looking, he sports a runner's build, carrying his more defined muscle in the places he obviously works his body, mostly in his legs, shoulders, and arms with his core and the rest of his body remaining fit and trim.
  • Humanization: Due to his upbringing and where he lives now, he is rather humanized and enjoys wearing clothes, using weapons, and living a more refined lifestyle than his more wild and feral kin and packmates. Refer to Accessories for all of his clothing and other adornments.

  • Fur & Markings:
    • Muzzle, cheeks, throat, chest, underbelly, limbs, under tail, inner ears, and brow spots are all Ash.
    • "Mask" facial marking, sides of neck, forelegs/arms, sides, thighs, and tail top are all Judge Gray.
    • Forehead, nape and scruff, shoulders and upper forelegs/arms, tail base, and tail tip are all Birch.
  • Optime Hair: Zeus
  • Nose, Claws, Pads: Mine Shaft
  • Eyes: Viking

  • Hand of Eris, eventually (not yet in play)
  • And some others

  • Duncan's main weapon is a six foot (183cm) tall hunting spear made of fire hardened ash wood with an eight inch (20cm) leaf shaped spearhead made of hand forged steel. The spearhead is attached to the shaft with two steel pins and wrapped with leather. The spear is very well maintained and the spearhead is always kept incredibly sharp. The fire hardening process has permanently tinted the wood black.
  • His secondary weapon is a elm wood re-curve bow strung with a composite of flax fiber and animal sinew. The belly of the bow has been fire hardened to increase its strength while the arms of the bow have been left alone to promote flexibility. The nocking point of the bow string has been wound with horse hair to keep it strong and altogether the bow is well taken care of and in great working condition. The bow is a deep dark brown and black where the belly has been fire hardened.
  • He is almost never seen without his bone knives somewhere on him, either sheathed on his quiver strap or his work belt or strapped to his thigh where they're easily accessible. The smaller curved knife is made from an elk antler and the larger is made from its femur bone. Both are incredibly sharp and like everything he owns are well taken care of. Although both knives are each made of one solid piece of bone, a bit of leather has been tied where the "blade" meets the "handle" on a traditional knife.

  • To go with his bow Duncan has a cross-body quiver made of dark brown leather and trimmed with rabbit fur. It holds approximately fourteen arrows and has a pouch for storage and several tie points to attach a variety of items to it to increase its usefulness.
  • He has a heavy duty work belt that is dark brown in color and well worn from use though still in good condition. It has many pouches, loops, tie points, and straps to store, holster, and hold pretty much anything and everything he can think of carrying with him at any given moment.
  • For days when there's bad weather and through the colder months he has a hooded cloak that has been dyed black. It's made of a tough and rugged though comfortable material and is thick enough to block out the elements without being too heavy or bulky. It is long enough to reach his hocks and has an oversized billowing hood that fits well over his head and ears.
  • His most common set of clothing consists of a cowl-neck tunic dyed deep forest green on the outside and black in the inside paired with dark brown pants that tie secure just above his hocks. The cowl neck of his shirt is big enough to be pulled up in a variety of ways - like a hood or a "mask" - and he almost always keeps the sleeves rolled up just above his elbows.

2.1  Interaction

  • Speech: A mid-tone, somewhat low but not notably so. Smooth and well spoken with a light Irish accent. May use Irish colloquialisms.
    • Languages: He is fluent Irish/Gaelic and has a decent handle on German, understanding it better than speaking it himself.
  • Scent: Meadow grass, fern, bog, peat, moss, algae, reeds, burren, warm stone, shore. Salsola; hints of pine, salt, marsh, and horses.
    • Scent Mask: Coastal. Bay sand, briny water, dune grass, wildflowers. Faint fish and cat scents. All completely covers his pack scent.
  • Disguise: He dirties himself up and goes by the name Guerrero, taking on the role of a charismatic through shady drifter.
  • Quirks, Gestures, Etc.: Expressive with his eyes and ears. Moves his shoulders a lot. Rubs his neck when he's uncomfortable or tired.
  • General Posture and Body Language: Confident and assertive but not dominant or submissive. Good posture. Puts his weight on his toes.

2.2  Ideals

  • Outlook: Optimistic, Pragmatic, Realistic
  • Sociability: Introverted, Approachable, Amiable
  • Expression: Calm, Collected, though sometimes Aloof
  • Alignment: Lawful Neutral

  • Adventure, Wanderlust
  • Challenge, Competition

Duncan believes in the Coisricthe religion of his homeland Airgid Gleann and reveres all three gods equally for all their benevolent and malevolent deeds. Since joining Salsola his faith has diminished somewhat but he still remains dedicated to the religion and observes its holidays when he can with other followers within the pack.

  • Non-Luperci: Favors luperci and humanization over non-luperci and feral living due to his upbringing and continued life in Salsola.
  • Species: No genuine bias though he tends to view purebloods as extremists, preferring hybridization over keeping to one species.
  • Gender: Mildly misogynistic, believing males to be superior purely based on the fact that females are smaller, weaker, and so on.
  • Age: He is respectful of his elders, trusting in their wisdom, as well as protective of young ones, believing they are the future.

Duncan is heterosexual (Kinsey 0) and only interested in females. He is a hopeless romantic at heart but hides it well behind a mask of seemingly aloof and indifferent behavior towards females due in most part to his youth and somewhat introverted personality. If he were to ever find a mate he would be devotedly monogamous.

  • Likes: Walking, running, traveling, exploring, carving, crafting, animals, insects, hunting, spring and summer, open spaces, coastlines, the ocean.
  • Dislikes: Being cooped up, nothing to do, feeling held back or restrained, too many rules, lack of freedom, autumn and winter, mountains.

He enjoys drinking socially and prefers more commonplace drinks like whiskey, rum, and ale to the more refined wines and champagnes of his packmates, though he wouldn't turn his nose up to it if it was offered to him. Aside from that he tends to keep away from any other substances, preferring to keep his wits about him and his senses sharp. He has tried tobacco and marijuana and finds all inhalants more of an irritation than anything else.

4.  Abilities

  • Education and Learning:
  • Spear (Master): Duncan's main weapon is his spear. He is capable of inflicting precise attacks with exceptional accuracy at both close range and at a distance. He is best at coming in close and making a strike but is equally effective at long range, throwing his spear at his intended target. Though he prefers to settle things diplomatically, he is quick to strike and can be deadly if the need arises.
  • Archery (Master): By no means a secondary weapon, Duncan is equally if not better skilled at using a bow and arrow as he is with his spear. Due to his exceptional aim and steady hands Duncan is a highly skilled archer and can effectively strike his target wherever he needs to at a variety of distances and in a variety of conditions. He is almost never without his bow and arrows, even when he is equipped with his spear.
  • Combat (Journeyman): When without his go-to weapons Duncan is quite adept at resorting to hand-to-hand and feral combat, though the latter is preferred over the former as he is better skilled at going toe-to-toe on four legs than he is on two. He is much better in a knock-down-drag-out brawl than he is in a long engagement and prefers to use his quickness and agility to outpace his opponent over trying to outmatch them in strength.
  • Hunting (Master): Duncan's go-to method of hunting is with either his spear or his bow which he was equally adept at using. He is also quite good at hunting in feral form but has far better luck at long range with his weapons than he does at close range with his teeth. He also gets a much cleaner kill with weapons.
  • Skinning (Journeyman): In addition to hunting Duncan is quite skilled in skinning animals, preparing and tanning pelts and hides, and butchery of the remaining parts of the animal into usable materials and edible meats and organs. He's pretty good at making jerky too.
  • Fishing (Apprentice): Duncan enjoys spear fishing though it is more of a hobby than anything else. He can also use primitive methods such as a simple hook and line or even feral techniques, but above all else he is best at using his spear, which he is successful at catching fish with more often than not.
  • Carpentry (Master): Highly skilled with his hands Duncan is a master carpenter who specializes in staves, bows, arrows, and other wooden weapons though he is capable of creating a variety of tools and other useful items like boxes and other containers, trinkets, jewelry, and so on.
  • Apiculture (Journeyman): A hobby turned passion, Duncan is a highly skilled beekeeper capable of maintaining several apiaries and processing the resulting honey and wax into a variety of useful materials, substances, and items. Brewing mead has also become a great interest of his.
  • Horsemanship (Journeyman): Duncan is a deftly skilled rider and caretaker of horses, though he prefers the former to the latter. While he knows a great deal about caring for and training horses, he much prefers riding them than he does looking after them.

5.  Residence

Lookout Lodge, The Ruins, Salsola

  • New house description coming soon!
  • Flanked by a small patch of forest to the northwest, the old and rather unremarkable lighthouse sits on the southernmost tip of The Ruins comfortably away from the rocky cliff it once guarded stray vessels from wandering too near. Built from strong and sturdy stone it has lasted the test of time and stands tall and stable against the gusting bay winds. Bleached white from sunshine and seaspray the tower is octagon shaped and boasts four floors, each with four windows except the ground level, which has no windows and only one door that functions as the main entrance and exit of the lighthouse - built from thick and heavy oak reinforced with hand forged iron. Over the doorway outside Duncan built an arch trellis out of wood where thick vines of magnifica honeysuckle have grown to completely cover it. The same flowering vine almost completely encircles the ground level of the lighthouse and creeps up to just below the second floor windows. The wines are evergreen all throughout the year and produce fragrant flowers in the spring and early summer, a favorite of Duncan's bees. Also encircling the bottom of the tower are thick bushes of European barberry which provide a natural and thorny deterrent to anyone or anything looking to snoop around the tower. It also does well to hide a lupus-sized bolt hole dug out under one corner of the lighthouse foundation.
  • Inside a massive spiral staircase made of wood travels the circumference of the tower and connects each floor until terminating at the uppermost floor where a wooden ship ladder and trap door allow access to the roof. Each floor of the lighthouse is made of heavily reinforced wood and though creaky at times - especially during sudden changes in temperature or humidity - is still very sturdy and shows no signs of giving way anytime soon. The same can be said of the heavy stone roof and the original glass in the water-tight windows, all of which was well built to last against the constantly shifting elements of the coast. The ground floor is set up as a sitting area for receiving guests and is furnished modestly with a small table and two chairs set atop an elk hide rug. Tucked under the stairs is a small makeshift cot and a pile of furs for overnight guests and a small table for them to put their things on. A cast iron stove sits atop a few bricks in a corner of the room near the table and chairs and with a good flame going is able to heat the whole tower during colder weather.
  • The second floor functions as a workshop for Duncan where he keeps anything and everything related to his craft from his tools and supplies to half-finished projects and a varied stock of common and rare woods waiting to be turned into something interesting or useful. Aside from the large worktable in the middle of the room there isn't much else noteworthy about it, though there is a generous amount of candles all over the place to allow him enough light to work day and night. On the third floor Duncan has set up his bedroom where a wooden bed is layered with furs to sleep on and flanked by a pair of small tables littered with candles, carvings, and other random trinkets. A large and heavy-duty wooden chest sits on the floor just in front of the bed and is used to safeguard the things he holds most dear to him. The last and uppermost floor is used as storage and not frequented very often, though it is sometimes open to guests who plan on staying more than one night and another makeshift cot is set against one wall to offer a more comfortable place to sleep. All the way atop the roof is nothing, just the roof, though he sometimes likes to go all the way up there to think.
  • Outside and a little way away from the lighthouse - sheltered by the forest and carefully fenced off to ward against wandering wildlife and packmate alike - Duncan has built four small apiaries out of some heavy pieces of driftwood he hauled up form the bay. The logs are carefully hollowed out and holes are punched in them to allow the bees room to build a hive and plenty of places to enter and exit, the top then covered by a roof of woven grasses, reeds, and other rain deterring materials that still allows the hive to "breathe" so that heat and excess moisture can escape. The roof is secured to the main structure so it can't simply blow away but can easily be lifted away to allow access to the precious honey hiding within. All over the small peninsula - throughout the spring and summer - a variety of wildflowers, bushes, and brambles bloom to give the bees plenty of nectar sources for making honey, though they tend to frequent the honeysuckle vines and barberry bushes growing on and around the lighthouse the most.

6.  History

Duncan de le Poer is the firstborn son of Síleas Lennox and Fechín de le Poer, born into the Macha Tribe of Airgid Gleann. The result of an unplanned affair, he was largely raised by his father's extended family. He spent much of his youth idolizing both his father and "uncle", but due a youthful stretch of underhanded tactics and bullying was given a reputation he didn't quite deserve. Overshadowed by his more popular brother, Duncan's less outgoing nature and interests often left him behind when it came to matters of state and politics. He spent much of his adolescence working as a carpenter within the Macha Tribe, though learned other various skills including horseback riding, hunting, and reading.

When both Duncan and his brother turned one, they were visited by their grandfather Wyatt. He explained that, if they so chose, they would need to make a year-long journey without aid if they wished to join the family in their ancestral home. While Lennox decided to explore the continent, Duncan decided to go looking for his family across the Atlantic. His journey brought him to Freetown in late August of 2015, where he encountered Salsola members Siv and Kynda Helsi. When they learned of his identity, they decided to bring him back with them. Though accepted by the Capo member before reaching Salsola proper, he was later confirmed by Boss Salvia Eternity whom - to his surprise - was mated to a de le Poer who later agreed to be his sponsor.
