Duncan de le Poer is a member of Salsola presently ranked as a Confidant. He serves the pack as a scout, living and working at the Queensgate Garrison.

He was born in Airgid Gleann to Síleas Lennox and Fechín de le Poer. The result of an unplanned affair, he was largely raised by his father's extended family within the Macha Tribe. When he turned one, his grandfather suggested he engage in a familial rite of passage. Duncan agreed to go on a journey which landed him in Freetown where he met Siv and Kynda Helsi, who after learning his identity decided to bring him home with them. He joined Salsola in September 2015.

Although Duncan lost his home and nearly his life in the fall of the Red Star he went on to assist in the inevitable defeat of The Five who had been tormenting Salsola in early 2016. When the Second Boreas Conflict broke out he did his best to defend his pack again and though he had made some friends in Inferni all allegiances had to be thrown aside when the Inferni-Salsola War threw a wedge between the two packs.

In the aftermath of the war, Duncan resumed his duties. Things in Salsola continued to see change – first the ousting of Lokr Revlis, and then that of it's long-time Boss Salvia Eternity. Uncertain about his own place in this new world, Duncan decided to accompany a caravan south to the pack's Portland Outpost. Duncan found himself – for the first time in years – unsure of what to do.

Though he was offered an opportunity to return to Airgid Gleann, Duncan declined. He instead spent the next two years honing his crafts and exploring the surrounding areas, until duty once again summoned him back to the north.

  • Description:
Duncan is an almost seamless blend of wolf and various breeds of dog. At first glance one could easily mistake him for a pure wolf but a keen eye and closer inspection would reveal slightly oversized ears, a marginally shorter and wider snout, and a somewhat leaner and more streamlined overall body shape. Aside from that though, he is pretty much all wolf with big paws, thick pads, and a robust frame beneath a generous amount of toned muscle. His fur is average all around. Not long but not short, not thick but not thin, not wiry but not plush - it is well mixed and rather soft, short overall but thicker and slightly feathered on his cheeks, neck, chest, haunches, and tail. It thickens dramatically through the colder months and thins out nicely in the warmer seasons but is smooth and naturally well groomed year round.
Aside from an unnoticably shorter and wider muzzle and slightly oversized ears there are no distinguishing features about his head and face that would suggest he is anything other than a full-blooded wolf, though the most striking feature of his face are his piercing glacier blue eyes.
  • Optime Hair: He keeps his hair long and maintains it well. It is most often pulled up into a half pony-tail with a few shorter strands falling into his face or completely drawn up into a messy man-bun when he needs it all out of his way, particularly when he's working. He very rarely leaves it all loose.

He is only slightly above average in size, taking after the many other males in his family and sporting a heavy and formidable frame. Where he differs from his kin is where his form is more slender and streamlined, having slightly longer legs than average. He is tall, lean, and slender for the most part. Muscular but well toned, not bulky or beastly looking, he sports a runner's build, carrying his more defined muscle in the places he obviously works his body, mostly in his legs, shoulders, and arms with his core and the rest of his body remaining fit and trim.

Duncan is realtively humanized, with his Optime form used the most. It is his go-to form for most everyday situations, and he often wears clothing and accessories.

  • Everyday
    • He has a heavy duty work belt that is dark brown in color and well worn from use though still in good condition. It has many pouches, loops, tie points, and straps to store, holster, and hold pretty much anything and everything he can think of carrying with him at any given moment.
    • His most common set of clothing consists of a cowl-neck tunic dyed deep forest green on the outside and black in the inside paired with dark brown pants that tie secure just above his hocks. The cowl neck of his shirt is big enough to be pulled up in a variety of ways - like a hood or a "mask" - and he almost always keeps the sleeves rolled up just above his elbows.

    • For days when there's bad weather and through the colder months he has a hooded cloak that has been dyed black. It's made of a tough and rugged though comfortable material and is thick enough to block out the elements without being too heavy or bulky. It is long enough to reach his hocks and has an oversized billowing hood that fits well over his head and ears.

Interaction

  • Speech: A mid-tone, somewhat low but not notably so. Smooth and well spoken with a light Irish accent. May use Irish colloquialisms.
    • Languages: He is fluent Irish/Gaelic and has a decent handle on German, understanding it better than speaking it himself.

He is a hopeless romantic at heart but hides it well behind a mask of seemingly aloof and indifferent behavior towards females due in most part to his youth and somewhat introverted personality. If he were to ever find a mate he would be devotedly monogamous.

Spirituality

Duncan believes in the Coisricthe religion of his homeland Airgid Gleann and reveres all three gods equally for all their benevolent and malevolent deeds. Since joining Salsola his faith has diminished somewhat but he still remains dedicated to the religion and observes its holidays when he can with other followers within the pack.

Substances

He enjoys drinking socially and prefers more commonplace drinks like whiskey, rum, and ale to the more refined wines and champagnes of his packmates, though he wouldn't turn his nose up to it if it was offered to him. Aside from that he tends to keep away from any other substances, preferring to keep his wits about him and his senses sharp. He has tried tobacco and marijuana and finds all inhalants more of an irritation than anything else.

  • Parents: Duncan's relationship with his parents is complicated. Owing to his own illegitimacy, Duncan was separated from his mother's side of the family and – over time – her as well. Though he idolized his father as a boy, the perceived favoritism regarding his brother left Duncan wanting more from the man. He has not seen either of them since he left home, and has not heard from his father in many years.
  • Siblings: Duncan has one brother, Lennox. Though initially the best of friends, as Lennox began to thrive and show his natural talent and charms, Duncan started to feel as if he was living in his brother's shadow. This led to conflicts between them, though they resolved these well enough. Duncan has attempted to maintain contact with his brother, especially now that his children have chosen to live in Salsola, though their communication is (understandably) rare.
  • Nieces and Nephews: It wasn't long after he settled in Portland that two of Duncan's relatives – his brother's children – arrived in the new world. Though he was initially uncertain of how to behave around them, Duncan has settled into his role as a proper uncle: seeing that they suceed in Salsola and doing his best to keep their (and his) connection to Airgid Gleann alive.

  • Armed Combat [Spear] (Master):
Duncan's main weapon is his spear. He is capable of inflicting precise attacks with exceptional accuracy at both close range and at a distance. He is best at coming in close and making a strike but is equally effective at long range, throwing his spear at his intended target. Though he prefers to settle things diplomatically, he is quick to strike and can be deadly if the need arises.
  • Archery (Master):
By no means a secondary weapon, Duncan is equally if not better skilled at using a bow and arrow as he is with his spear. Due to his exceptional aim and steady hands Duncan is a highly skilled archer and can effectively strike his target wherever he needs to at a variety of distances and in a variety of conditions. He is almost never without his bow and arrows, even when he is equipped with his spear.
  • Unarmed Combat (Journeyman):
When without his go-to weapons Duncan is quite adept at resorting to hand-to-hand and feral combat, though the latter is preferred over the former as he is better skilled at going toe-to-toe on four legs than he is on two. He is much better in a knock-down-drag-out brawl than he is in a long engagement and prefers to use his quickness and agility to outpace his opponent over trying to outmatch them in strength.

  • Hunting (Master):
Duncan's go-to method of hunting is with either his spear or his bow which he was equally adept at using. He is also quite good at hunting in feral form but has far better luck at long range with his weapons than he does at close range with his teeth. He also gets a much cleaner kill with weapons.
  • Skinning (Journeyman):
In addition to hunting Duncan is quite skilled in skinning animals, preparing and tanning pelts and hides, and butchery of the remaining parts of the animal into usable materials and edible meats and organs. He's pretty good at making jerky too.
  • Fishing (Apprentice):
Duncan enjoys spear fishing though it is more of a hobby than anything else. He can also use primitive methods such as a simple hook and line or even feral techniques, but above all else he is best at using his spear, which he is successful at catching fish with more often than not.

Highly skilled with his hands Duncan is a master carpenter who specializes in staves, bows, arrows, and other wooden weapons though he is capable of creating a variety of tools and other useful items like boxes and other containers, trinkets, jewelry, and so on.

A hobby turned passion, Duncan is a highly skilled beekeeper capable of maintaining several apiaries and processing the resulting honey and wax into a variety of useful materials, substances, and items. Brewing mead has also become a great interest of his.

Description:

He is mainly a mixture of Woodsmoke (#101616) black and Tuscany (#B96E29) orange which covers most of his back, sides, neck, head, and hind legs. Catskill (#E5EEF3) white covers his forelegs, chest, underbelly, and the tip of his tail. His eyes are Woodland (#4E5220) green.

Personality:

Although he thinks of himself as an intellectual Conor is very much an average run-of-the-mill tomcat. Most of the time, when he's not lazing the day away sleeping in a patch of sunlight, he busies himself with staring out windows, chasing bugs and mice, or accompanying Duncan around the pack. He is a little bit of a ruffian and not above bouts of horseplay with Duncan or any other cat or canine willing to tussle with him, but most of the time he'd rather just curl up in someone's lap and have his rump scratched. He can be brazen, opinionated, snarky, and even snide when he wants to be, but for the most part he is quite loveable, easygoing, and talkative.

History:

Born and raised in Anathema, the kitten was traded by Vepar Creo to Shiloh Dawnbringer in Vinatta. He lived with Dreyma Moineau who named him Vanir after the pack's gods, and followed Dreyma to Salsola when she went looking for a lost packmate. When he was accidentally left behind, the cat befriended Duncan and decided to stay, choosing to go by a new name. He is sterile and cannot sire kittens.

Duncan de le Poer is the firstborn son of Síleas Lennox and Fechín de le Poer, born into the Macha Tribe of Airgid Gleann. The result of an unplanned affair, he was largely raised by his father's extended family. He spent much of his youth idolizing both his father and "uncle", but due a youthful stretch of underhanded tactics and bullying was given a reputation he didn't quite deserve. Overshadowed by his more popular brother, Duncan's less outgoing nature and interests often left him behind when it came to matters of state and politics. He spent much of his adolescence working as a carpenter within the Macha Tribe, though learned other various skills including horseback riding, hunting, and reading.
When both Duncan and his brother turned one, they were visited by their grandfather Wyatt. He explained that, if they so chose, they would need to make a year-long journey without aid if they wished to join the family in their ancestral home. While Lennox decided to explore the continent, Duncan decided to go looking for his family across the Atlantic.

Though accepted by the Capo member before reaching Salsola proper, he was later confirmed by Boss Salvia Eternity whom - to his surprise - was mated to a de le Poer who later agreed to be his sponsor.
