Dale's Adoptable #5

This character is open to adoption under a Relaxed Permanent Contract. You have free reign to choose, edit and modify any of the traits listed here, or even the design of the character itself. Once you claim the character as yours, it's yours, and you are free to put them up for adoption to someone else at any time. If not, you may drop, kill them off, or NPC them as you please. All I ask for is a vague outline of what you plan to do with this character so I can pick a good first fit.

Adopters, once they have claimed the character, will have the following perks:

  • A reference sheet
  • A resized reference sheet
  • A full-size and resized (avatar-size) mugshot
  • A picture of all the pixels for this character (with a transparent background)
  • The individual pixel icons for this character (with transparent backgrounds)
  • The hex codes for the character's color design

If interested, please contact Dale via PM on their Dogmeat account.

1.  Possible Character Names

This is, by no means, an exhaustive list. They're simply ideas for an adopter to look at if they can't think of a name they like for this character.

Male

  • Asdrubal: Spanish form of the Phoenician-based Hasdrubal, which means "Ba'al helps". It was the name of an ancient general who was the brother of the legendary Hannibal.
  • Vitulus: The masculine form of an ancient Roman cognomen (family name) that means "young cow" or "calf".
  • Xenophon: An Ancient Greek name meaning "foreign voice" or "strange voice", it belonged to a Greek historian who lived in the Fourth Century BCE.

Female

  • Boudicca: Derived from a Brythonic word meaning "victory", it belonged to a queen in the First Century BCE who led a revolt against the Roman occupation of Britain.
  • Kriemhild: A Germanic name meaning "battle-mask", it was borne by a heroine of the Nibelungenlied saga.
  • Longa: The feminine form of an ancient Roman cognomen (family name) that means "tall".

Gender-Neutral

  • Buteo: An ancient Roman cognomen (family name) that means "buzzard" (as in a type of hawk).
  • Canicula: Another name for the Sirius the Dog-Star, which is found near the constellation of Orion the Hunter. The name is Latin for "little dog".
  • Zohar: A Hebrew named meaning "brilliance" or "light".

3.  Personality

Brash and nervy, this character is as bold as the green in their eyes. They have a knightly and honorable demeanor, believing in the preservation of the innocent and righteousness of the just. Pragmatic but not unkind, they are natural enforcers and protectors, fiercely determined to keep everything safe and orderly. They are constantly thinking and acting on the fly, obeying instinct without giving much thought in times of crisis or high action. Curious and quick to learn, they are versatile and resourceful, having plans to provide or make due when times are tight. With such a cheery and helpful persona, some would be surprised to find this character as controlling as they are, afraid of having their needs unmet and living (or seeing others live) a deprived life full of pain and anguish.

This character, if they had a D&D alignment, would be Lawful Good. From to least importantly, they believe that they:

  • Shall help the needy, for everyone deserves to have a chance at being helped.
  • Shall not murder, for wanton killing is believed to be unnatural and against the order of the world.
  • Shall not betray others, though it can't be helped if something is done that is seen as a betrayal (such as making a friend answer for a crime they've committed)
  • Shall not steal, though theft is sometimes necessary in order to survive, and the person stolen from can be made up to later
  • Shall not harm the innocent, though they have no problem dealing with someone perceived as less innocent than another

In regards to their alignment and their behavior, they are, from most to least likely, to:

  • Support the legal procedures of their nation without regard for their own discomfort, for they have a high respect for the law
  • Use wealth to help others who are less fortunate, for wealth is something to be shared and used virtuously
  • Value lifelong commitment to a romantic partner, though they don't expect such a commitment from their other half
  • Support their family even if it means they're uncomfortable doing so, for even family must answer to others and the law
  • Give their life in defence of their community, for territory and leaders are temporary, and the character feels more useful alive than dead

4.  Relationships

This character grew up in a large pack or family setting that didn't have (or value) close relationships. They were likely raised by only one parent or extended family, with the others off doing somewhere else, estranged, or dead. They became used to being on an island in a sea of faces, sticking to a close-knit group in a subgroup-filled community that didn't work together. They have trouble working with in-laws and friends of friends due to growing up in a clique-ridden environment, and the character's likely to have had many romantic and friendly failings as a result. They are likely to grow deeply attached to others, and have probably been through a couple of packs in the past, the loss or leaving of which has hit them hard.

There are a number of open territories you can use as a place of origin for this character, or create backstory and ties to. Good examples for this particular character include Barcelona, Jerusalem, London, and Rome. The on-board settlement of Amherst may also be a good option.
