1.  Possible Character Names

This is, by no means, an exhaustive list. They're simply ideas for an adopter to look at if they can't think of a name they like for this character.

Male:

  • Aias: The Greek form of Ajax, the name of a Greek hero from the Trojan War and possibly derived from words that mean "mourner" or "earth".
  • Cynbel: A Welsh name roughly meaning "war chief".
  • Wystan: A named derived from old English that roughly means "battle-stone".

Female:

  • Aristomache: A Greek name roughly meaning "best battle" or "best of battle".
  • Broccha: The feminine form of a Roman cognomen (family name) that means "toothy".
  • Melantha: A Greek-based English name that roughly means "bee flower" or "black flower".

Gender-Neutral:

  • Aculeo: A Roman cognomen (family name) that means "prickly" or "unfriendly".
  • Maecheneb: A name derived from JRR Tolkien's Sindarin language that means "sharp-eyed".
  • Yúlo: A name derived from JRR Tolkien's Elvish languages that roughly means "of the embers".

2.  Appearance

The lineart for this design was provided by Kitty/Dakikr, who's one of 'Souls's own.

3.  Personality

This character is very soldierly and no-nonsense. They walk, talk and act with a firm, disciplined bearing. They are very clear and blunt in their motivations, wants and needs, and have no time for politeness or minced words. They're a quiet sort of dominant, striking with precision and out of the shadows with an eerie calm. They'll do what they must to survive, respecting the strongest and taking advantage of the low. They are cold and callous, and either were born stone-hearted or developed that personality due to past events. They will turn on allies and friends if it suits them, and show no mercy to enemies or those who've done them wrong. The best way to earn their respect is to keep them on a firm leash and show exactly why that character is on someone's leash.

This character, if they had a D&D alignment, would be Neutral Evil. From most to least importantly, they believe that they:

  • Shall follow the law, but only to advance themselves and when it's beneficial to them
  • Shall not aid the weak, for only the strongest survive
  • Shall honor those who are stronger, as they are deserving of respect for their strength (and set a bar to be passed)
  • Shall not show mercy to enemies, but may show some lenience to a stronger opponent that they have beaten as a sign of respect
  • Shall not aid those who protect the weak, but will assist those who are stronger or higher-ranking out of respect or to advance themselves

In regards to their behavior and their alignment, they will, from most to least likely:

  • Fits in with their society and respects the rules of hierarchy and dominance
  • Will take a risk, but only if the benefits outweigh the potential downfalls
  • Will provide for friends and allies, but expects some sort of repayment and is demanding and harsh on those who owe a debt
  • Only keeps their word if profitable, but will pledge loyalty to a particularly strong, impressive, or generous leader or group
  • Isn't concerned with politics, but will interfere in them if paid to, sees that it gives them an advantage, or if slighted

4.  Relationships

This character was raised in either a militaristic setting or adopted into it. Most of their relationships are professional and distant, meaning friends or mates are either a convenience or formed out of close quarters. This character recognizes strength and power first and foremost, and sees others more as underlings and leaders than any potential packmates or otherwise. They are likely to defend the biases and flaws of their nation and side with them simply because it's what the top dog in their territory commands them to do. If they did show a softer side to someone, it would be only after a great amount of coaxing and camaraderie, or if the character ever bore children. Even then, they would try and suppress their emotions or put up a stoic front because it's not proper or wise to act otherwise.

There are a number of open territories you can use as a place of origin for this character, or create backstory and ties to. Good examples for this particular character include Algiers, Athens, London, or Rome. The on-board settlement of Freetown may also be a good option.
