1.  Possible Character Names

This is, by no means, an exhaustive list. They're simply ideas for an adopter to look at if they can't think of a name they like for this character.

Male:

  • Mózes: Hungarian version of the name Moses, which is either derived from an Egyptian word for "son" or a Hebrew word for "deliver".
  • Nazar: An Armenian, Russian, Turkmen and Ukrainian form of Nazarius, a Latin name meaning "from Nazareth".
  • Thórarinn: An Icelandic name roughly meaning "Thor's eagle".

Female:

  • Eija: A Finnish name possibly derived from an exclamation of happiness.
  • Inger: Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish variant of two different names meaning either "Ing is beautiful" or "Ing's enclosure".
  • Zsuzsanna: Hungarian form of the name Susanna, a name of Hebrew-Greek origin that means "lily".

Gender-Neutral:

  • Masaaraq: An Inuit name meaning "ice floe", found using an Inuit name generator.
  • Quamaniq: An Inuit name meaning "beam of light", found using an Inuit name generator.
  • Taktuq: An Inuit name meaning "fog", found using an Inuit name generator.

3.  Personality

Devoted, duty-driven and taciturn, this character lives and breathes a life of order. They are punctual and take commitments seriously, the first to arrive when summoned and the last to be dismissed. Putting value and trust in time-honored traditions, proven facts and balanced opinions, they may come across as cold or inflexible when presented with morally ambiguous or emotional situations. Despite this, they are fiercely protective of kith and kin, and value those who have earned their trust and support the character as much as the character gives them support. To this end, they do not take betrayal or slights against their social group lightly, and may be frighteningly angry or driven to mete out justice for the sake of lost honor or those who have been wronged. They are more than willing to become jury and executioner if someone judges that custom, a person, or the law has been violated.

This character, if they had a D&D alignment, would be Lawful Neutral. From most to least importantly, they believe that:

  • Shall honor all oaths, for their word is their bond
  • Shall not lie, for lies are what cowards and criminals build their lives on
  • Shall honor legitimate authority, for a lawful world with lawfully-appointed rulers makes for a peaceful society
  • Shall not aid criminals, but it can't be helped if a criminal is aided unknowingly or tricks one to helping them
  • Shall help the needy if it advances law and order, but advocates and works to always help those in need, even if law or order has to be compromised (temporarily)

In regards to their behavior and their alignment, they will, from most to least likely:

  • Obey all personal contracts, for they always keep to their word
  • Supports their nation's legal procedures with disregard to their own comfort, as the law must be upheld
  • Not betray a family member, but will give them over to the law if necessary
  • Not act against his nation if profitable, as sometimes one must do things for the sake of survival
  • Will not harm others for profit, but may bring harm out of a sense of revenge or justice or as a favor to others

4.  Talents and Faults

To help flesh out a potential path for this character, a selection of randomized strengths and weaknesses has been made using Joe Larsen's Character Faults and Talents system. These are only suggestions for this character, and you are free to use, retcon, modify, or disregard these ideas as you please.

Talents:

  • Long-Range Weapon Proficiency: This character, whether through natural talent or experience, is proficient in a type of long-ranged weapon. They know how to properly equip, wield, and take care of this weapon for maximum damage, weapon condition and efficiency. Pick one type of long-ranged weapon - such as a dart-gun, a sling, a bow, spears, etc. - for your character to specialize in.
  • Mentor: This character has a knack for teaching others. They know how to break down concepts into more understandable terms. They give clear instructions and make detailed examples for others to follow from. They are quick to learn whether a pupil understands through doing, hearing, speaking or seeing, and adapts their teaching style accordingly.
  • Strong Metabolism: This character builds muscle easily and naturally has a lot of energy. They can gain nutrition from almost anything, and their metabolism easily adapts to times of excess or plenty. They naturally do not gain weight, and can keep on going when others might stop to rest.

Faults:

  • Impulsive: This character acts before they think. Their planning is short-term at best, their decisions based mostly on what happens in the next few moments. They will apologize later for what they do, and will refuse to listen to reason when they set their mind to an idea. Their reactive nature can easily lead them to being taken advantage of or walking into a situation they're unprepared for.
  • Merciless: This character is not one to show mercy. Their rigid belief in their moral code can lead them to cruelty and violence. They firmly believe in an eye for an eye, and will not give quarter to those who slight them. They can easily put off others with the zealotry they pursue their sense of honor with.
  • Minor Silver Allergy: Like the werewolves of old, this character is allergic to silver. Unlike the werewolves of old, the reaction is more a form of contact dermatitis. Inhaling silver - such as inhaling the dust off silver ore in a mine - may cause a considerable allergic response, but not severe enough to be anaphylactic.

5.  Relationships

This character was raised in a large family with either a strict and/or conservative worldview. There was a lot of pressure on them to succeed in their childhood, and they may have been involved in the parenting or taking in of siblings or other children and dependents. Their childhood was chaotic because of either this or some other factor, and this is a driving force in their want for a more orderly world. They likely have had few romantic relationships - never settling for short-term flings or fancies - but have had friends before, and get along with social groups and individuals who emphasize law and order. They may have experienced betrayal from those they were close to, or were somehow betrayed or let down by their family. This has made them guarded in giving their life story or feelings to others, and they may take a while to give others their trust.

There are a number of open territories you can use as a place of origin for this character, or create backstory and ties to. Good examples for this particular character include Budapest, Moscow, St. Petersburg, or Tuktoyaktuk. The on-board settlement of Freetown may also be a good option.
