Dale's Adoptable #1

This character is open to adoption under a Relaxed Permanent Contract. You have free reign to choose, edit and modify any of the traits listed here, or even the design of the character itself. Once you claim the character as yours, it's yours, and you are free to put them up for adoption to someone else at any time. If not, you may drop, kill them off, or NPC them as you please. All I ask for is a vague outline of what you plan to do with this character so I can pick a good first fit.

Adopters, once they have claimed the character, will have the following perks:

  • A reference sheet
  • A resized reference sheet
  • A full-size and resized (avatar-size) mugshot
  • A full-size and resized (avatar-size) body shot
  • The hex codes for the character's color design

If interested, please contact Dale via PM on their Dogmeat account.

1.  Possible Character Names

This is, by no means, an exhaustive list. They're simply ideas for an adopter to look at if they can't think of a name they like for this character.

Male:

  • Eyan: Variant of Ian, a Scottish Gaelic version of the name John, which is derived from Hebrew and means "graced by Yah" or "Yahweh is gracious".
  • Feredir: Means "hunter" in Sindarin, a fictional language created by JRR Tolkien for his Lord of the Rings mythos.
  • Liam: A shortened Irish version of William, a Germanic-based name roughly meaning "the desire to protect" or "the will to protect".

Female:

  • Amyra: Variant of Amira, a name which is the feminine form of the Arabic Amir ("prince, commander") or the Hebrew Amir ("treetop").

Flora: Feminine version of an Ancient Roman cognomen (family name) which means "light in colour" or "blooming".

Gender-Neutral:

  • Calan: A name meaning "daylight" in Sindarin, a fictional language created by JRR Tolkien for his Lord of the Rings mythos.
  • Simone: A name that either can be the male Italian version of or the French feminine form of the name Simon, a name derived from Hebrew meaning "he has heard".
  • Zanis: A name meaning "royal dawn" and created using a D&D Elf name generator.

3.  Personality

This character genuinely wants to do good. They don't want any harm to come to the innocent and the undeserving. They want everyone to get along, and probably find species biases ignorant, unbelievable or a waste of time. At their core, there is a want for the world to be a better place. Something has happened - or perhaps something has been there from the start - that gives them an inherent selfishness that gets in the way of this. Property rights and the trust of others are loosely believed in and not guaranteed, and there are no promises to be loyal to anyone they come across. They may be self-destructive and temperamental, and perhaps don't take criticism, sarcasm and/or insults well. Most of all, especially if they get something out of it, they don't mind knocking others down a peg to come out on top, though they may harbor guilty feelings about this.

This character, if they had a D&D alignment, would be straddling the line between Neutral Good and Neutral Evil. From most to least importantly, they believe that they:

  • Shall follow the law unless breaking the law results in more good, as laws provide a base for an orderly life to rise from
  • Shall not harm the innocent, because the innocent don't deserve anything happening to them
  • Shall steal only to promote goodness...most of the time
  • Shall lie to advance yourself, though the entire world's full of liars, so there's no reason not to lie
  • Shall not betray others, because sometimes it's either you or them

In regards to their alignment and their behavior, they are, from most to least likely, to:

  • Seek to undermine his community and nation (especially if profitable), because you never known when your world could collapse around you and leave you at its mercy
  • Not try to seek positions of authority over others, because they don't want to bear that kind of responsibility
  • Value family (but will not heed their requests necessarily), because family can be fickle and make unreasonable demands
  • Take risks if the benefits are great, because giving into temptation almost always ends poorly in some way
  • Give their life in defense of their community, because they can't guarantee their community would protect them in return

Adopters are free to retcon, completely rewrite, or disregard any of this in favor of their own ideas.

4.  Relationships

This character is estranged from several members of their family and/or has never known many of them. They do have a close relationship to at least one of their elders, which could range from being a grandparent to a mentor to an elder member of a past pack. They also may have cousins they are close to or at least familiar with, and had at least one betrothed they lost somehow. At least one or more of these people or factors put the character in a position of overwhelming responsibility and/or left emotional needs unfulfilled. Adopters are free to retcon, completely rewrite, or disregard any of this in favor of their own ideas.
