Daeva is a hybrid born 21 December 2012. She is the daughter of Sakti Varuna and Samael Lykoi. The result of a non-consensual encounter, she was born at sea on a trade ship, and does not know her father nor does he know of her existence. After being neglected throughout her puphood Daeva ran away from her mother as soon as she was able and was eventually taken in by a group of traveling traders before heading off north to inevitably find her way to Nova Scotia.

She joined Inferni in May 2015 and is presently ranked as Quintus. She serves the pack primarily as a scout, regularly patrolling the borders and lands in close proximity to the pack, but has also taken a liking to spying on the neighboring packs, collecting as much information on as many of them as possible. As a master archer she also does a lot of hunting for the pack and rises up to protect it when she must.

In August 2015 she got caught up in the Inferni and Cour des Miracles War and was part of a raiding party that set fire to the northern border of Cour des Miracles. Narrowly escaping with her life, she decided to stick close to the pack for the remainder of the war and tirelessly kept watch while the others threw themselves into battle.

War came to Inferni once again in January 2017 and Daeva eagerly rose up to defend the pack once more. She was part of an attack group made of up Infernians and Salsolans sent to the clandestine camp of the Boreas wolves, who had returned with a vengeance against both packs and wanted nothing more than their destruction.

1.  Appearance

1.1  Basics

Essentials

  • Species: Daeva is a well-blended mixture of various canine species but the most evident are coyote and jackal. Her slightly shorter muzzle, smaller nose, larger ears, and thinner "bottle-brush" tail are a dead giveaway of her coyote and jackal heritage, but her wolf and dog genes lend a little to her size.
  • Fur: She has the typical fur of a coyote or jackal; shorter hairs that hug closer to the body than the thick double coat of a wolf. The individual hairs are much thinner and softer than the average coyote or jackal making her fur much smoother and silkier, but at the same time it is also more plentiful, making her fur a little more thick and plush than average.
    • Optime Hair: Long, wild, and flowing jet black locks spill down to a length that reaches just above her tail. She prefers to let her hair do as it pleases and only grooms it when it gets overly tangled or matted with debris. For the most part it stays pretty sleek and glossy though somewhat disheveled from time to time.
  • Facial Features: Her slightly shorter tapered muzzle, smallish nose, and larger than average ears are a blend of both coyote and jackal, resulting in an almost fox-like appearance in her face and head. She has slightly smaller somewhat almond shaped eyes that are almost constantly narrowed into a mischievous or even downright icy glare.
  • Build and Size: Her body appears quite long, sleek, and slender with enough muscle on her lithe frame to keep her from appearing thin and wiry. Though average sized her slightly longer legs add an increment to her height, pushing her above average for her combination of species. She is nonetheless quite a petite creature.
    • Lupus: In lupus form she is at her most slight and svelte, looking almost like a large fox rather than a coyote or a jackal. Her body is very slim and streamlined with short even fur and very little in the way of fluff with the exception of her neck, chest, and tail. It is her smallest form and thus her least favored.
    • Secui: In secui form she is much larger and more muscular, losing much of her lithesome appearance but still looking quite trim and contoured. The fur on her neck, chest, and tail lengthens quite considerably, somewhat adding to her size, but it is her long legs that add considerably to her height, which practically doubles in this form.
    • Optime: Her gracile appearance returns with a layer of lean muscle making her appear quite curvy and feminine. Being more feral than humanized she appears quite wild and unrefined, but she still carries herself in a way that she deems ladylike, which has a somewhat seductive sway of the hips and tail. Her long legs give her a little height over the average female but she is still quite average sized if not rather small.
  • Humanization: Minimal. Prefers optime form but does not wear clothes with the exception of her cloak, furs, and accessories. Enjoys the use of weapons but is equally comfortable hunting and fighting in feral form.

Lupus

She does not use her lupus form very much at all due to its small size, which she hates. Lupus is often reserved for hunting small game, making a quick getaway, or sneaking around.

Optime

She is pretty much always found in optime form since she enjoys its size, shape, and usefulness. It is her "go-to" form for almost any situation unless she absolutely has to use one of her other forms instead.

Scars

  • A "Y" shaped scar on the right side of her neck where she was clawed by an eagle when she was younger. It mistook her for an easy meal and ended up with the misfortune of becoming hers.
  • (Planned) On her left hip is a Lykoi Chaos Star scarification that has been tattooed red. In lupus and secui form it is hidden by her leg and can only be seen if she rolls onto her back. In optime form it is easily visible but often covered up by her belt and quiver or cloak depending on the weather or what she's up to. (not yet in play!)

Weapons

  • An ornate bow made of sturdy pear wood gifted to her by one of the traders she used to travel with. It is well taken care of and thus in very good condition even in spite of its constant use. It is her prized possession and very dear to her, almost never leaving her side.
  • A set of six hand-forged steel throwing knives acquired from the same individual as the bow. Five are in excellent condition and one shows considerable wear from repeated use. Each one's handle is wrapped in leather for grip and balance making them easy to throw accurately.

Accessories

  • Upon a thick leather belt hangs a hip quiver which houses twelve arrows. In the little pocket affixed to the quiver are six spare arrow heads, a whetstone, and firelighting supplies.
  • Around her right thigh she often wears a dark stained leather leg sheath where she carries her throwing knives. It fits snugly around her upper thigh and shows minor wear from where she inserts and removes the knives, but is still in pretty good condition.
  • When traveling, on cold days, and especially in the winter she can often be seen wearing a dark dyed wool poncho-style cloak with an oversized hood trimmed with fluffy brown rabbit fur. It provides warmth as well as ease of movement and is well taken care of.

  • Speech: Evidently feminine voice that is not high or low. Very smooth, sultry, provocative, and alluring. Riddled with obscenities when angered.

Spirituality

Being a tremendous skeptic, Daeva has a hard time believing in anything she can't see and touch herself. While in the company of traveling traders she was regaled with myths and legends from Romani culture but never really absorbed or embraced much of their beliefs. She does have an irrational belief in evil and what she thinks are manifestations of malevolence; ghosts, demons, witches, and other "personifications" of evil greatly disturb her to the point of mild paranoia.

Biases

  • Species: Being a hybrid herself, Daeva favors hybrids over purebred canines. She prefers coyotes and jackals over wolves and other species but bears no ill will toward them.
  • Gender: She prefers the company of males and gets rather irritated by other females, especially the happy bubbly girly types. Those particular females are usually met with aggression.
  • Age: Severely lacking in maternal instinct, Daeva does not like pups or young ones; for some reason they just drive her crazy. Due to her upbringing she doesn't like elders either.

Sexuality

  • Daeva is heterosexual (Kinsey 1) and is only attracted to males, but often flirts with females she finds appealing. She may engage in polyandry every now and again - most often during heat - but if she ever fell in love and chose a mate, she would most likely remain monogamous. She is most attracted to the biggest, strongest, and usually most aggressive and dominant males due to a mild form of hybristophilia.

She doesn't like the way inhalants burn her throat when smoked and prefers to eat marijuana, cannabis, or salvia to experience its effects. She only indulges socially however, as she sees no point in getting drunk or high alone, and any nightmares or personal demons she has she isn't trying to get away from.

4.  Abilities

Education and Learning: Unless otherwise noted Daeva either taught herself a particular skill or learned it while in the company of a band of traveling traders she journeyed with prior to arriving in Nova Scotia. She spent many months learning and training with the traders and continues to train daily to both maintain and sharpen her skills. She is always willing to learn more about what she already knows and is constantly seeking out new skills to further improve herself.

Hunting

  • Tracking (Master): Out of all her natural skills her tracking abilities are the best. She is very good at picking up scent trails, spotting tracks, and determining the whereabouts of prey or other canines.
  • Hunting (Journeyman): She prefers to do her hunting with a bow, especially with larger prey, but is also quite good at hunting in feral form, favoring her bigger stronger secui form as opposed to her small lupus.
  • Trapping (Apprentice): She's pretty handy with snares and other simple traps but that is the best she can do right now. She is also good at making lines for snares and traps.
  • Skinning (Apprentice): On par with her trapping skills her mastery of skinning animals is quite rudimentary, but good enough that she can create a pretty clean pelt.
  • Slightly larger eyes and much larger ears allow her to see and hear much better than the average canine, which helps her tremendously when hunting, tracking, and scouting. She is usually the first to see or hear something or someone.
  • Having spent a lot of her time wandering and traveling she has developed a very good sense of spacial awareness and navigation skills. She can easily familiarize herself with new surroundings and find her way whenever she strays, very rarely getting lost.
  • Although she's gotten pretty good at skinning animals and cleaning up the pelts, she hasn't quite gotten the hang of preserving the furs and usually has to trade them quickly before they go bad. For that reason she only ever makes pelts in the winter when they're easy to store.

Fighting

  • Archery (Master): By far her greatest skill; she is precise, deadly, and highly effective with a bow. She is quick on the draw with incredible aim and a very steady hand.
  • Throwing Knives (Journeyman): Almost on par with her archery skills, she is quick, accurate, and very capable with her throwing knives. She's also very good at using them as normal knives.
  • Unarmed Combat (Apprentice): Like her feral fighting skills she can handle herself well in hand-to-hand combat, but she is far better at range with her bow than in close quarters.
  • Feral Combat (Apprentice): She can hold her own quite well in a feral fight, especially in secui form, but she is by no means a seasoned brawler and far prefers her bow.
  • Although she knows the basic structure and maintenance of her bow she doesn't know how to make her own yet. She can make bow strings out of either plant or animal fibers and create her own arrows, but she hasn't perfected making arrow heads yet.
  • She routinely sharpens and balances her throwing knives so that they are always in perfect "working order" whenever she needs them. One, which she uses for other things besides self defense, is somewhat duller and less effective than the others. That one is marked with a small notch to be used last if need be.
  • Being smaller than average awards her with much greater speed and agility allowing her to outpace and outmaneuver larger enemies and prey. Adversely she has slightly less strength and stamina compared to someone much larger than her.

6.  History

Daeva Lykoi is the daughter of Sakti Varuna and Samael Lykoi. The result of a non-consensual encounter, and born at sea, Daeva does not know her father and he does not know of her existence. Although she kept her and raised her, Daeva's mother never really wanted her, and she was routinely neglected throughout her puphood. Once she was old enough to fend for herself she stole her mother's horse and ran away to eventually be taken in by a band of traveling traders. They taught her many things before she parted ways with them and headed north, eventually wandering her way toward the packlands.

Sakti Varuna was a member of a large family in India that made a fortune in the moving of goods and trading. When word came to them that there was a large market for their services on the other side of the world, it was decided that Sakti would be their envoy. They loaded up a large vardo, hitched it to a horse, and sent her off with two guards, Nagas and Madri. Crossing westward through the middle east, their first stop was Jerusalem, where the trio was unfortunately beset upon by a maniacal coyote and his raiding companions. While his compatriots tended to Nagas and Madri, the coyote had his way with Sakti, who as a simple trader relied on her guards to protect her and had little to no means of defending herself. When the deed was done the coyote and his comrades disappeared into the night and left Sakti to flee to Cairo on her own. There she befriended a mercenary by the name of Sahu who helped her repair her vardo, restock her supplies, and agreed to continue traveling with her as her personal guard.

The journey from Cairo to Lisbon was a long but relatively easygoing trip, although halfway through Sakti discovered that she was pregnant. Knowing it would be the spawn of that marauding coyote Sakti refused to pause her travel and pressed onward, hoping the stress of the journey would force an abortion. When they finally reached Lisbon, the two canines lingered in the city for a few days to restock and recover before bartering their way onto a large ship that was headed directly to Freetown. About two weeks from reaching port Sakti gave birth to three pups, one healthy living female and two stillborn males, one of which was deformed with stunted limbs. Were it not for the pleadings of Sahu, Sakti would have condemned the living pup to the same fate as her stillborn brothers - a cold burial at sea - but she reluctantly agreed to keep her, naming the pup Daeva.

When the trio finally arrived in Freetown Sakti was able to set up her vardo on a small plot of land close to town and make a decent home out of it. Once Daeva was old enough to be weaned off of milk Sakti began to routinely neglect the young canine, often leaving her alone at home for hours on end while she was in town trading rare furs, leather goods, and custom-made clothing. Displeased with the way Sakti was treating Daeva, Sahu began to distance himself from the pair until he set off on a hunting trip one day and never came back. Without Sahu to hunt for them Sakti had to spend a lot more time away from Daeva, who was left alone to fend for herself for days at a time. Through trial and error she taught herself to scout, track, hunt, and many of the other basic skills her mother should have been teaching her. When she finally reached shifting age and had gotten accustomed to shifting between her three forms, Daeva summoned up the courage to gather some supplies, steal her mother's horse, and run away. To this day Daeva does not know if her mother is alive or dead.

After a couple of weeks wandering around on her own she happened upon a small band of traveling traders and decided to shadow them as best as she could, following them for a few days before she was caught trying to steal some food off a cart. Instead of punishing her the traders decided to take her in and teach her to be a better thief, and with them she picked up a variety of skills including archery, throwing knives, hand-to-hand combat, stealth, and manipulation. More than anything she learned what a real family was supposed to be like, but instead of accepting their affection she was bewildered by it, unsure of how to reciprocate. She eventually decided to part ways with the traders, leaving on good terms, and began meandering in no direction in particular though unwittingly heading northeast toward Nova Scotia.
