Clementine Salcedo is a young hybrid raised alongside her siblings, Baltasar, Lyra, and Magnus Salcedo, in Salsola's Portland Outpost. Her parents are Lilia Salcedo and Indra Winters, both talented swordswomen who’ve pledged their swords to The Thistle Kingdom.

The untimely death of her brother Magnus, with whom she was very close, and a sense of partial responsibility for the accident led to her hasty retreat from Fort Preble in an attempt to separate herself from the traumatic event. Secretly, she feels that her mothers (particularly Lilia) blame her for this.

Months of trial and error in respective areas — largely trade, exploration, and expanding upon her gift for social graces — have earned her the rank of Merchant Apprentice within Salsola, where she holds the Mercante job.

Almost immediately upon joining the secretive pack, she struck up a friendship with its militia head, Brocade Valentine, but made an enemy of his niece Symre Rask. This resulted in the older woman leaving odd occult symbols for Clementine to find and other, more generalized forms of harassment. This culminated in an early-Autumn usurpation, wherein Clementine proved once more that taking what you want is the surest way of achieving your goals.

Outside of Salsola she takes on the guise of Antiope Scali, an errant merchant's daughter.

OOCly awarded the Spotlight Soul for November '19.

1.  Appearance

1.1  Basics

Overview

Long-legged and lithe, Clementine effuses a certain fatalistic beauty not unlike the others of the Eternity family into which she has been adopted. Highly humanized thanks to both her upbringing and the overall culture of her pack, her posture is that of an upright patrician. Her hair, which is voluminous in its abundance, is most often pulled up in hasty buns or stabbed through with pins, drawing attention to her otherwise long, pale neck.

Pretty in a way that is reminiscent of her "grandmother" Osrath Eternity, but she resents the comparison.

Essentials

  • Species: Almost completely dog in appearance, though a sharpness in her features hints at the presence of coyote blood.
  • Fur: Medium-length and thick.
    • Optime Hair: Waist-length and extreme in its abundance.
  • Facial Features: Combining the Salcedo line's large but narrow, slender eyes with the angular facial features of the Revlis family lends Clementine a rather exotic look; chronic sufferer of 'resting bitch face' because of this.
  • Build and Size: Sports what has become known as a ballerina build; a long neck, medium length torso, as well as long legs and arms. More suited to tasks of endurance or agility as opposed to brute strength.
  • Humanization: High; will wear clothing and jewelry and is uncomfortable without it, though she can and will.
    • Lupus: 75 lbs (34.01 kg)30 in (76.2 cm)
    • Secui: 145 lbs (65.77 kg)42 in (106.68 cm)
    • Optime: 195 lbs (88.45 kg)6ft (182.88 cm)

2.  Personality

2.1  Summary

High-spirited and willful with an odd streak of pragmatism; has a penchant for manipulation and unintentionally prodding at others' character flaws. Easily progresses through traits featuring ambitious, covetousness, delicacy, and tact, often from one word to the next. Possesses the silver tongue that both of her families are famous (and in some cases, infamous) for. Alternates between speaking concisely and practically with confidants or friends, and a richly detailed vocabulary that showcases not only her intelligence, but her status as someone of relatively 'high' birth. Often experiences shifting personal loyalties, but the bedrock of her personality and desires is rooted in the continuation and prosperity of herself and her family.

2.2  Traits

  • Expression: Open and inviting; genuinely fond of others.
  • Sociability: Extremely social with the occasional flair for drama.
  • Alignment: Lawful Evil (leans Chaotic Neutral)
    • "Believes in using society and its laws to benefit herself (or her family)."
    • "Will seek to increase her power over others within the hierarchy of the universe."
    • "Won't save the life of another at great risk to own self."
    • "Will betray law-breaking family members for personal gain. Will not betray family if loyal."

2.3  Ideals

Motivations

  • Her family, particularly the well-being of her siblings, Baltasar and Lyra. This becomes increasing obvious following the untimely and unexpected loss of her brother, Magnus.
  • Salsola, it's future, and her place within it.
    • Exponential growth and continuing an upward momentum.

Fears

  • Grievous bodily harm, the safety of her immediate family, letting down those who depend on her, and failing to see her goals realized. Oddly enough, death is not something she gives much consideration.
  • Thalassophobia will become a particular fear of hers; specifically, deep water she cannot see the bottom of and how she correlates this to her brother's death.

Values

  • Respect, both given and received.
  • Growth; her own, her family's, and Salsola's.

Interests

  • Likes: Public speaking, writing, hunting, horseback riding, intellectual arguments, punctuality.
  • Dislikes: Solitude, anti-intellectualism, alcohol (and alcoholics), being manipulated, flattery, and unwarranted comparisons to relatives (particularly her "grandmother" Osrath).

Biases

  • Non-Luperci: Though she doesn't hate them, Clementine doesn't understand why anyone wouldn't want to shift, and considers non-luperci to be advocates for hostility against the growth of their own species. While she doesn't speak on this subject often, if someone were to mention this behind closed doors, she would be inclined to agree.
  • Packs:
    • Her beliefs largely align with Salsola's; without exception, she keeps any personal opinions that differ from the public norm to herself.
    • Due to her inexplicable fascination with everything to do with the war between Salsola and Inferni, she holds some bias against coyotes and coyote-dominant hybrids.

Sexuality

  • Likely to be almost entirely heterosexual and quite the hopeless romantic. May struggle with her own heterosexuality due to being the product of a homosexual relationship.
  • Values lifelong commitment to a romantic partner.

Substances

  • Only drinks with others (never alone), but doesn't know her limit and tends to over indulge.
  • Will eventually experiment with psilocybin mushrooms.

Spiritually

  • Subscribes to Onuba's system of faith, The Lantern, with a considerable amount of thought given to the Coisricthe religion.
    • Knows about Khalifism and some about monotheistic beliefs, such as the wolves of Boreas.

3.  Family: Salcedo

3.1  Family Tree

* Clementine is unaware of the blood ties between them.
** Through adoption she may also claim non-blood kinship to the Winters family.

3.2  Family Relationships

  • Lilia Salcedo: Her mãezinha, Lilia is the role model from whom she took her exuberance for life; she lacks a certain calmness, however, and the cutting edge of Clementine's tongue often caused friction in their relationship. Despite this, there is no lack of love shared between them — an abundance of it in fact — but Clem feels that this may have diminished slightly following the unfortunate death of her brother, Magnus. Bitterly ashamed for her part in this horrific event, she feels a deep and abiding guilt every time her mother's eyes wander toward the lakeside.
  • Indra Winters: The mother with whom she has the least in common, Clem nonetheless understands that while Indra loves her, she doesn't necessarily like her all the time. Why this is, she isn't entirely certain, but the reason matters not. She eagerly accepts any and all lessons her other mother has seen fit to impart upon her, save where combat is concerned. Much to their mutual disappointment, Clem lacks either the incentive or passion for violence. With this in mind, they regard each other with as much fondness as possible, accepting each other for their perceived flaws (on both sides) and taking what is given without abhorrence or disappointment.
  • Baltasar Salcedo: Baltasar's lackadaisical approach to life is perhaps the only thing Clementine begrudges him. In her opinion, he has all the hallmark signs of one who will eventually become a spendthrift or a lay about. They needle each other endlessly – usually at her instigation, for she feels she cannot give up opportunity – over his lack of drive or initiative, while he in turn is always quick to remark that she is overly enterprising and false. Though she might hesitate to do so, however, she would almost certainly defend him from anything or anyone, not necessarily out of love but due to the blood that binds them.
  • Lyra Salcedo: Her only sister, one would expect them to be close. Prior to his death, Clementine often felt as if her sister were third-wheeling in their camaraderie. Fast forward to present day, and she now gratefully and lovingly returns her sister's affection in turn. This is due in some small part to the way Lyra views the world and interacts with others; a transaction in which she rarely comes into the picture, a sum of parts in which (much to Clem's amusement) others often come up short. Their relationship is not uncolored by a sense of rivalry, however. Fortunately for the two of them, they maintain their sisterly friendship by channeling their interests into disparate measures insofar as taking on the world is concerned.
  • Magnus Salcedo: Her best friend until the end of his days, which came far too soon for the both of them. Always eager to get into (and out of trouble) they often made a ruckus along Portland's seaside, and were rarely seen without one another. This closeness is undoubtedly what led him to try and save her from the icy lake she fell through during her youth. Though she lived, he did not, and regrets her inability to do for him what he did for her. Directly and indirectly his passing led her to leave Portland earlier than she might've done initially.

4.  Skills and Inventory

4.1  Abilities

Animal Care

Education and Learning: Both Indra and Lilia brought their respective mounts to Salsola's Portland Outpost, and she learned much by watched and — later — emulating them.

  • Proper horseback riding lessons with her mothers began only days after she shifted, but long before that she watched them feed and care for their personal mounts.
  • While not particularly talented, Clementine is a capable rider of completely ordinary ability.

Combat

Education and Learning: Both of her mothers are accomplished fighters and recognized within their pack thusly; though not a strength of hers, she has focused on tooth-and-claw fighting as opposed to using a weapon.

  • Clementine's primary weapon is her quicksilver mind, of course, but when pressed she won't hesitate to fight back in either her lupus or secui forms.
  • Her preference in fights is to utilize her speed before everything else; beyond that, she will fight dirty if it means she'll survive to see another day.

Socio-Political

Education and Learning: The most notable of her family lines — Salcedo and Revlis in particular — have excelled in areas involving trade and guile, and Clementine is no exception. In addition to her innate talent, a formal education at the hands of her aunt, Salsola's boss, honed these skills to a sharp and deadly edge.

  • Noted for her silver tongue and sharp mind, Clementine rarely misses a beat; coupled with a near-photographic memory and attention for detail, very little escapes her.
  • Natural charisma oozes off Clementine like honey, and she wields it at will, whether this be smooth lines or comments with a cutting edge.

Miscellaneous

Education and Learning: General but noteworthy skills that bear mentioning.

4.2  Residence

  • The Ruins, Salsola
    • Though relatively small – with a downstairs capable of fitting only a table and chairs comfortably – and somewhat Frankenstein-esque in build, having seen some additions at various points throughout the age of humanity, it has likely been overlooked for exactly this reason.
    • The upstairs is spacious, with many windows (now devoid of glass following The Red Starfall) and therefore an abundance of natural light. Private due to the many old-growth trees that ring the small property while maintaining a central location within the Ruins themselves, recent additions include a firepit and woodcutters block.
    • Shortly after moving in she began drafting plans for a courtyard to be added.

4.3  NPCs

Fingal

  • Species: High-content Andalusian
  • Age and DOB: 3.5 years / March 12th, 2016
  • Description: Pure white.
    • Gear includes a black leather bridle with copper pieces, which once belonged to her mother's mother, Osrath Eternity. A plush, black blanket padded with fur serves as a saddle.
  • Personality: For reasons unknown, Fingal is a mean horse; despite being gelded, he dislikes other horses — particularly stallions — and will frequently bite even familiar Luperci. Clementine is perhaps the single exception to this rule, and only because she knows he's a mean bastard. Loves to run more than anything else in the world, and is fond of carrots.
  • Skills:
    • Was trained briefly by Osrath Eternity, and was involved in her program to train warhorses. He is desensitized to blood and spooking, but not strong enough to carry an armed rider.
    • Shows great promise as a horse intended for swift travel or delivering messages.

Aberdeen

  • Species: Common Raven
  • Age and DOB: 5.5 years / March 3rd, 2014
  • Description: Black, but clearly experienced some abuse — malnutrition especially — and requires some attention. Nonetheless large due to his captivity.
  • Personality: A fast and agile flier, Aberdeen is a preener who comes off as arrogant or even presumptuous. He is nonetheless very food motivated, and expects to be rewarded for, well, just about everything.
  • Skills:
    • Has been trained to deliver and otherwise carry messages, but is easily confused when it comes to new recipients/locations and must meet them first.

4.4  Trade

Offered Goods

  • Bone needles.
  • Items her mom has 'acquired'.
  • Select items from Onuba
  • Salsolan trade items such as nose rings, assorted pelts, whale oil, etc.
  • In addition to physical goods, Clementine can teach Portugese and some Italian, though would be reluctant with the latter.

Requested Goods

  • Assorted favors or information (secrets, IOU's, trade intel, etc.).
  • Books for Salsola's Library.
  • Medicinal items, pots and pans, pine tar, pine pitch, weapons, farming equipment (hoes, scythes, etc.), horse gear, etc.

Youth

A spirited youth raised in Salsola’s Portland outpost during her formative months, much of Clementine’s time — and, by extension, her siblings’ — was spent causing minor mischief along the seaside, with Clem often acting as the group’s defacto ringleader. It was during this time that she also began learning some small skills, either by watching her parents or bothering others.

It was during her first winter that tragedy struck the Salcedo-Winters family. During a routine adventure with her littermate, Magnus, Clem fell through the ice of a nearby pond, nearly drowning. The stress of the situation forced her brother to shift, enabling him to save her at the cost of his own life. This, along with the departure of childhood friends (most notably Aurelion and his sister Wisteria) led to grief and depression, ultimately resulting in her mothers agreeing it would be beneficial for her to leave the Outpost for Salsola.

After being formally accepted by her 'aunt', Elphaba, the redhead became something of a ward to the older Revlis woman, as well as apprenticing underneath her in areas such as scholarship, manipulation, and other subjects.

Adulthood

During the spring and summer months, Clementine spent much of her newfound freedom exploring not only Salsola, but the lands surrounding it, making only very infrequent trips back to Portland to see her family. During this time she rose fairly quickly through the ranks of her pack, swiftly entering the central ring and a place of relative trust. It was during mid-to-late summer that she discovered her uncle, Lilia’s brother, was a member of a local loner band, The Troupe, and began visiting them semi-frequently.

Due perhaps to the influence of her biological aunt, Morgana, it came as little surprise when she put her social skills to use and made it clear that her path forward would be as a merchant and ambassador, earning her the job of Mercante in early fall. It was around this time that Clem also made it known the lengths to which she was willing to go for status, for after a discussion with her friend — and the pack’s Director – Brocade that she usurped his niece, joining the elite upper class as an Arbiter.

Not long after, her mother came to Salsola to scold her for this, and made it clear she intended to stay.
