6.  History

Cassius was raised to be a soldier with blind devotion to both his elders and the God that they served. The lessons of the bible, particularly those of divine wrath, were ingrained into him as soon as he could understand them. Once he shifted combat training joined bible study and he learned to fight in all his forms, both with and without weapons (though he developed a preference for knives). When he reached his first birthday he was sent out on a mission's trip. His task was to convert a nearby family - or to kill them in God's name. When they refused to accept Christ, he slaughtered them and returned to his family, who celebrated the death of the heathens.

Years passed and Cassius carried out the work of his family and his God without question.

The mission hadn't seemed any different than the dozens he had already carried out. A sinful group in the area needed to be dealt with and Cassius, along with a few of his brothers and sisters, was given the assignment. The group was easily dealt with once they rejected the word of God and the slaves that they had been keeping were taken in by Cassius' family until judgement could be passed on them individually. Cas was tasked with looking after one of the slaves, a snarky girl named Deanna.

Deanna was distrustful of him at first, understandably so, but the more time they spent together the more their bond grew. When judgement was passed she pledged allegiance to their God and to their cause, if only to save herself, and became a tentative member of their family. Cassius continued to work closely with her and she taught him about the world beyond his family. Because of her, he began to doubt their teachings.

The first mission they were sent on together, everything changed. Though Deanna had promised herself to their cause, she refused to act against the family they had been sent to condemn. Cassius' family turned against her and Cas defended her. Together they slaughtered the siblings that had accompanied them.

The pair have been on the move since, afraid of retribution and with nowhere to go.
