Athanasios Pace

Athanasios Pace is the son of two unknown Luperci, born in the small township of Katerini in Greece.

1.  Appearance

1.1  Basics

Thanos, due to his mixed heritage, doesn't look more wolf or more jackal, but rather a seamless blend of the two. His build is a little thicker now that he's aged, but he isn't as thick and tall as most wolves and certainly not as lanky and skinny as most jackals. His torn ears and stumped tail ruin the jackal appearance he could have had, making him look something other than canine. His colors are desaturated and dark for the most part, only showing color in bronzes on his undersides and around his shoulders and lightness around his chin, neck, and the nape of his neck. The most striking part of his appearance is the mask adorning his face, a stark white against his dark fur with a contrasting, obvious pattern along the muzzle and under the eyes. The eyes are triangular and jet black, blocking any emotion that he could show. Because Thanos has worn this mask nearly his whole life, he doesn't know what his face looks like under it. To him, the mask is his actual face and his identity and removing it would reveal something unknown to the monk.

His clothes are pretty basic, a simple robe of a royal blue or honey color covers part of his body, but it isn't particularly intended to keep him decent. Rather, it's meant to instill a calming effect on anyone he meets. Whether or not it always works is debated, but he feels like it makes a difference. A waxwood staff is in his possession nearly all the time, used as a walking stick and as a weapon for self-defense.

Coloration Fur: Primarily Tuatara Markings: Fuscous Grey and Chicago around his underside and splashed a little around his shoulders. Silver, Grey, and Dove Grey fade in that order starting from his chin to his neck, fading into Tuatara and Fuscous Grey. Silver is independently dusted on the nape of his neck, going from the base of his skull to about halfway down his spine. Despite being of a large size, Athanasios is quite the gentle giant. As per his faith, he maintains a calm and benevolent appearance towards others. He meditates often, usually in the morning when he wakes and at night before sleep. He is skilled in hand-to-hand combat, his fighting style being a combination of Baguazhang and Systema techniques, usually involving fluid and rapid movement, paired with non-lethal tactics and moves. It is, as he says, "the only way to ensure no harm is done to any being", meaning himself or his possible assailant. The deer he often eats isn't a "sentient" being, and is so excluded from the list of beings he isn't allowed to do harm to. If necessary, he will also use a wax wood staff he carries with him to defend himself, but it is more of a walking stick to Athanasios than a weapon. Much like the color of his clothes, Athanasios has a calm effect to even his speech, which sounds lazy and relaxed, as if he had nothing to rush for in life (or to some, as if he had smoked some magic greens, but Athanasios doesn't know of such herbs).

He speaks Greek, English, and low speech fluently. His first language was Greek, but he later learned English, as it seemed to be a more widespread language. He never learned Italian, even though his surname is of Italian origin. He also learned low speech from a Brother, liking the ability to commune with the local fauna and gain insight to their albeit simple lives.

• Thanos is a devout follower of a small religious faith known as Trochos, a Greek based monkhood drawn from Buddhist scriptures. Raised in it since he was a boy, he lives and breathes his spirituality but doesn't seek to convert others, let along force it onto anyone.

5.  History

Athanasios' faith and philosophy, Trochos (Greek for "Wheel"), is a take from Buddhism, although isn't quite the same. Once you gain entry into the Brotherhood and start your pilgrimage, you drop everything you were and gain a new name and new start on life, namely that as a monk. Athanasios long forgot what his former name was or even the names of his former family, having been introduced to the brotherhood at an extremely young age. The name he was given means "Immortal Peace", which is very symbolic of his ideas. He spent a good part of his early life studying scriptures provided in the monastery the local Luperci had established in an old monastery in his homeland of Greece, nearby Mount Olympus. That was the first part of his pilgrimage. The second part involved travelling to an outside area, devoid of any of his brothers, and live among the indigenous groups. It was supposed to be a lesson in applying the scriptures to life outside of the monastery and retain his lessons learned. The elder monks pointed to a spot on the map randomly, pointing to a known populated area in the region formerly known as Canada. And so Athanasios travelled there, gaining much knowledge along the way to his destination.

He returned after some time, claiming a place as a fully ordained monk within the conclave. For a while, he was content with being settled within the monastery, but soon enough he itched with a desire to see the world abroad again. He pleaded with the elder of the monastery to live as an ascetic, staying true to their doctrines while living abroad. Eventually, the elder granted him his blessing to leave the monastery, wishing him luck on his journeys.
