Christmas in July is an annual "Secret Santa"-style swap where participants sign up to make each other gifts. Gift assignments are done round-robin style and kept secret until gifts are posted. People get to feel good about making and receiving gifts! Yay!

It's not a contest in that there aren't any "winners," but if you fail to make your set within a timely manner you may be barred from the next contest in consideration of the person who did not receive their set, depending on the circumstances at hand.

Indistinguishable from Secret Santa, except it happens in July rather than December. ;)

Exchangeable Work

Originally, Xmas in July was for graphics sets, which included a post table, signature, and avatar -- usually of photomanipulated art. As drawn avatar art became more popular, a drawn art option was added to the exchange, and participants could choose to either give/receive a graphics set or drawn art.
In 2022, following many years without anyone choosing a graphics set over drawn art, graphics sets were discontinued from the event altogether and only drawn artwork was permitted.

Prizes

Participants receive a set, and the ability to claim the Snow Skull for the Catacombs.
