LORRAINE'S ADOPTABLES

CONTACT

CURRENT ADOPTABLES

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Individual Characters:
    • None!
  • Off-board Families:
  • Generally speaking, I'm a fairly relaxed adopter; all I'm really looking for are active, responsible role players! I understand completely that real life takes precedent — just keep me informed — and I'm always excited to see what someone wants to do with a character!

Contracts and their Terms

LENIENT

MODERATE

STRICT

  • Lenient or otherwise freeform adoptables are denoted with a green tag.
  • These characters may only have one or two onboard relatives, have vague history notes, or are largely (sometimes completely) left to the whims of their adopter. Generally, these characters are for those who may want onboard relations but would like a lot of freedom.

Contract

  • Activity: Character may fall anywhere in your roster, though 'Souls activity guidelines do apply.
  • Personality: Lenient characters tend to be largely up to the player who adopts them, but discretion, thoughtfulness and good taste are expected.
  • Pre-Adoption Changes: Usually acceptable, so long as you adhere to 'Souls rules regarding retconning.
  • Post-Adoption Changes: Reasonable development and changes are acceptable. I will not reclaim a character if a radical change or a change in poor taste occurs.
  • Puppies and Breeding Rights: This character has no stipulations on puppies/breeding rights.
  • Join Date: Once approved, the adopter must join with the adoptable within three (3) months. After three (3) months, you will have to reapply for the character.
  • Adoption: The adoption process for lenient characters requires one (1) writing sample and a short summary of intention for the character. No character sample is needed.
  • Moderate adoptables are denoted with a yellow tag.
  • These characters always come with some stipulations attached, have been referenced multiple times ICly as looking or behaving in a particular way, or have things about them that otherwise cannot or should not be changed, whether it relates to their appearance or personality.

Contract

  • Activity: It's suggested that this character be at least a secondary, but tertiary and quaternary are also acceptable.
  • Personality: The adopter needs to display a moderate grasp of the character's personality. Attention to detail isn't as important as hitting all the right big character notes.
  • Pre-Adoption Changes: Considered on a case-by-case basis. A moderate character will always have some gaps for the adopter to fill, and I am always open to this. For larger important changes, I would prefer that the adopter discusses it with me first.
  • Post-Adoption Changes: Reasonable development and changes are acceptable. I will not reclaim a character if a radical change or a change in poor taste occurs.
  • Puppies and Breeding Rights: This character may have stipulations on puppies/breeding rights.
  • Join Date: Once approved, the adopter must join with the adoptable within two (2) months. After three (2) months, you will have to reapply for the character.
  • Adoption: The adoption process for moderate characters requires two (2) writing samples and a character sample.
  • Strict adoptables are denoted with a red tag.
  • Rarely, I may offer an adoptable that has an extensive, played family or who comes with a big plot attached, and for these characters I'll be looking for a reliable, quality writer. Generally, I won't give one of these characters to someone who hasn't yet established themselves on 'Souls.

Contract

  • Activity: Must be a primary or secondary character.
  • Personality: The adopter must display a firm grasp of the character's personality. I am looking for a sensitivity to the character's motivations, thoughts, feelings in addition to the finer details of the character.
  • Pre-Adoption Changes: Generally, no, as there is often very little wiggle room with a strict character's past and personality.
  • Post-Adoption Changes: The adopter will need to have very good justification for radical changes, otherwise they may be required to forfeit their character. Reasonable changes and developments are fine!
  • Puppies and Breeding Rights: This character may have stipulations on puppies/breeding rights in a separate contract.
  • Join Date: Once approved, the adopter must join with the adoptable within one (1) month. After one (1) month, you will have to reapply for the character.
  • Adoption: The adoption process for Strict characters requires three (3) writing samples and a character sample.

Adoption Terms

  • I prefer adopters who are thoughtful, sensible and active. I may sometimes prefer players who are already on 'Souls over outside players due to proven reliability. However, if you have a strong written application, I would rather risk activity for the right writer.
  • Alternatively, I may choose not to adopt out to players who:
    • Have previously adopted from me, only to drop the character after a short period of time.
    • Have a high number of characters.
    • Constantly pick up, drop, and switch characters.
    • Fail to meet the contract expectations.
    • Show severe streaks of inactivity, constant absenteeism, etc.
    • Fundamentally misunderstand/misuse/radically alter the character.

Re-adoption

  • Under certain circumstances, I will reclaim a character, which are outlined below.
    • Activity: If you have been removed in an activity sweep, have dropped the character, or if you are unable to be contacted for longer than a month. Please refer to contract types for expectations of activity. Strict adoptables will be reclaimed far more quickly than lenient adoptables.
    • Infractions: If you have been permanently banned from 'Souls or have made a number of serious IC or OOC infractions.
    • Contract Breach: If you have broken a specific term of the adoption contract.
    • Joining: Failure to join with adoptable within stipulated deadlines. If you give me notice that you can't join within the deadlines, I'll almost always make an exception.

Forms

Adoption Form

  • OOC Name: Your out-of-character name.
  • Character: The name of the character you would like to adopt.
  • Summary of Intent: Why do you want the character and what do you plan to do with them on 'Souls? A short answer is fine.
  • Character Analysis: Your interpretation of the character and, if you have one, a basic trajectory for them. Strict characters may need more consideration than moderate or lenient characters. This does not need to be long!
  • Roleplay Sample: Depending on the type (lenient, moderate, strict), please submit a roleplay sample. Refer to the contract expectations to see how many to submit. These can be samples from any roleplay, or a piece of creative fiction that you've written. This is primarily to get a sense of how you write. Generally, a range of samples is nice - one of your "average" posts to one of your "best" posts. Word count is not part of the consideration, so don't worry about having long or short posts.
NOTE If you are currently active on 'Souls, then linking to posts you've done on-site is totally acceptable.
  • Character Sample: Depending on the type (lenient, moderate, strict), please submit a sample that you've written as the character you intend to adopt. This does not have to be long, but it does need to give me a sense of how you will write them.
NOTE Some players do better when given a prompt. I am happy to provide a prompt if that's the case! When you submit the form, just write "REQUEST PROMPT" in this section and I will respond with the prompt.
  • Agreement: Do you agree to the terms of the character and contract?

Please send this form either to Clementine's Account as a Private Message or by email (lorrainemixon[at]gmail.com).

Adopter Rights

  • Art: All art of the adoptable (gift art, contest art, art that came with the adoptable) is returned with the character, should the character be reclaimed. Commissioned work that you have paid for, either by points or money, is considered your property.
  • Titles and Icons: Any titles and icons earned via game points, contests, etc. are considered your property; however, you must request removal/transfer in a timely manner after dropping the adoptable or they become property of the new player. Any titles and icons purchased via the 'Souls store are considered your property and may be removed/transferred to your own character at any time.
  • Character: If you actively play the character for one year or more, but then drop the character/go inactive, then you will have earned the right to play the character again when/if you return. The character may or may not be put up for re-adoption.
  • Wiki: Anything that you contribute to the character on their wiki page is forfeit if the character is reclaimed. If I choose to keep your contributions, I will provide credit to you.
