Vinátta (pronounced /ˈvɪːnauhta/) is a pack located in the Wabanaki Coast territory of 'Souls, claiming parts of the Commune of the Salmon, Amherst, and the Grand Lake, as well as sections of the shoreline. It is an all-species pack as all canines are welcome to join. Norse mythology strongly influences the pack's culture and ranks system. The name is Nordic in origin, and means friendship.
Vinátta maintains a loose sense of hierarchy and Vináttans revel in the peace that this relaxed attitude creates. Vináttans are however expected to be hard working and contribute to the pack, as well as celebrating with their family. While religion has a strong base in Vinátta, it is not a prerequisite and Vináttans are encouraged to share their beliefs (or non beliefs). Vinátta prides itself on encouraging freedom of speech within their ranks. Jordheim village is where the majority of the pack members reside.

4. Sub-territories
4.1 Grand Lake

The northwestern area of the territory used to be the production sections of Vinátta. Laying claim to a small amount of the lake gave them a strong supply of water and it is for this reason that all of these structures sat clustered nearest to the lake. Perhaps luckily for Vinátta, farms were a common occurrence before the fall of humanity and while there are repairs that need to be done on most buildings, the structures themselves are strong, well built structures.
Marsh Valley Livery |
Grazing & Crop Fields |
Raudr Vineyard |
Situated about three miles from the Grand Lake, south-east, sits a quaint livery yard, named as ‘Marsh Valley Livery’ on a small, broken sign by its entrance. While the front gate has long since been removed, the majority of the fences serving as the perimeter remain intact. With space for forty horses, the stables were an investment for Vinátta. Alongside the two stout buildings making up the stable block are the remains of ten paddocks, whose fences are likewise in need of repair. Behind the stables is the skeleton of a large hay barn, which has the potential to become functioning once more. |
Approximately six miles from the Stables is a small farm settlement that served Vinátta as housing and grazing for livestock such as sheep as well as providing fields for growing crops. While no boundary surrounds the entire area, there are boundaries around large sections of grazing with a small barn in two of the fields for housing. As with the paddocks in the stables, the fences will need repairing and small sections of the barn should be replaced but the stone of the barn has stood well against the weather and only minor repairs will need to be undertaken. |
Previously a successful vineyard near the banks of the Grand Lake, the Vineyard was renamed as Raudr Vineyard when Vinátta moved in. Spread over 100 acres of land, the Vineyard boasts an impressive variety of L'Acadie (white) and Lucie Kulhmann (red) grapes in large orchards. Founded in the early 1980's, the brewery's brick foundation is still functional, dotted with a vast underground cellar. Once the grape vines were free from the weeds and trimmed down to something more manageable, the grapes would be harvested in early autumn and made into wine for Vináttan consumption as well as trade. |
Sacred Grove |
Idun's Meadow | |
The Sacred Grove was cultivated by the Godja, Miskunn Stormbringer, when Vinátta moved in to the area. A small grove in the expanse of forest, this area served a religious purpose. Standing dominant in the centre of the Grove, a giant White Walnut tree rests. It was said by the Godja that this tree is representative of Yggdrasil, the life tree, and was worshiped fervently by those who believe in the Old Norse way. All Frithr Necklaces were carved from the branches of this tree. The Godja was usually found in this little grove, worshiping the Gods. Miskunn also made the addition of Horgr stones in between the roots of the Walnut tree. These Horgr stones were perhaps the Norse equivalent of altars and they appeared in stacks of stones in all shapes and colours. Members often sought the Godja out for advice here. |
Situated near the Sacred Grove, this break in the dark forest is filled with light. In the spring when the snow has melted and the flowers start to bloom, the heavy scent of their perfume fills the air along with the buzzing insects and graceful butterflies that aid in their pollination. The grass grows high enough to obscure a full grown lupus. The meadow gets its name from the single apple tree that grows near the middle of the field; the old tree seeming to have been there forever. The bark is dark and cracked with age, yet the tree still blooms every year, adding the sweet fragrance of apple blossoms in spring, and providing golden yellow apples in the summer months almost as if they are a gift from Idun herself. 4.2 Commune of the Salmon

To the south of the Grand Lake is the area known as the Commune of the Salmon, to which Vinátta previously laid claim to. As with the majority of what was once Vinátta’s territory, the Commune of the Salmon is shrouded in forest. The ground in this area of the territory becomes bumpier, hills a common occurrence. There are some old stone walls and structures left behind from the human era, though they are mostly crumbling. Additionally, there is a working stone well, drawing water from a deep underground aqueduct.
Jordheim |
Communal Garden |
Sveit Village Hall |
Perhaps the most memorable aspect of what was once Vinátta’s territory, Jordheim was the residential area for the pack. The houses themselves were built with little organisation and sit hickledy-pickledy in the valley that creates the majority of Jordheim. The houses are actually stone and brick underneath, but blend well into the scenery due to the large amount of earth and grass that mould them into the hill and valley. With a small porch area (showing the building materials beneath the earth), the beautiful wooden doors and thick glass windows, it is not difficult to understand how these structures have withstood all nature can throw at them. |
West of Jordheim is where Vinátta's communal herb garden, created by Saul Stormbringer and Colibri Haki in their first month of residence, once rested. Herbs and wildflowers with medicinal properties were gathered and grown here for the good of the pack. Witch-hazel, Meadowsweet, Common Sage, Catnip, and Chamomile are just a few of the many plants here, which were free for all members to use and tend to. There is also a raspberry bush and several apple saplings flourishing in the back. |
East of Jordheim is the Village Hall, built in the summer of 2012 by a dedicated group of Vináttans with the help of a Cercatori member who was indebted to assist on the construction. Notably, this building once housed a detailed map of the territory, as well as the pack's Almanac. |
Evergreen Tangles & Kissing Trees |
Futhark Falls & Lovers Leap |
Hart Pond |
A mixed wood of evergreen trees and bramble creates a literal maze of paths and nooks through otherwise thick, impassable forest. These paths lead both further into and away from the territory and entrances are harder to find during the warmer seasons, when plants grow thick around them. Ferns, fiddleheads and vines grow freely along the paths' edges, making for an exotic appearance. Deep in the center of all of these paths, a more cultivated tunnel has been named the Kissing Trees. At one point two separate columns of trees have bowed together, branches entangled like lovers. In the autumn, berries adorn the Kissing Trees. At the end of the tunnel, a small clearing gives a secluded spot to those who can find their way here. (Created by Sky & Rat) |
Hidden among the overgrown hiking trails of the Fundy National Park is a collection of small waterfalls known as Futhark Falls. The fresh water falls into shallow drinking pools, trickling over mossy rocks along the slope or splashing down in larger cascades, and tastes of the mountains. Vegetation grows thick here, and other than a few broad streams branching away or feeding into the falls, there is little danger of raging rapids forming. Just a small way down this steep slope, the ground levels out and shows one particularly old and gnarled oak that has borne the brunt of time and is scarred from the carvings of human couples. A sturdy rope has been tied over one of the old limbs, hanging out over the shallow, clear water with a petrified branch serving as a seat of sorts to make a swing. (Created by Raze & Djiacamo) |
Near the most North Western part of Fundy National Park, hidden behind Jordheim and the thick woodland, is a small and colourful clearing, dotted with wildflowers and all but hidden by towering trees. The pond is a few feet in diameter, bordered by grass and rushes, and populated with amphibians and many aquatic plants, some of which may be useful in herbalism. The pond is frequented by many smaller animals seeking water, if they can get through the trees, but also by deer. Occasionally a stag might be spotted – hence the pond's name – but the more obvious signs are parts of antlers which have been broken or shed, which can be found buried among the thick bushes on the edge of the clearing. (Created by Rat) |
4.3 Coastline

The southernmost terrain that Vinátta lays claim to is the coastline, stretching along the length of the territory. A natural harbour further up the coast gives this stretch of ocean and sand a calmer aspect than most. Fishing and swimming are feasible activities in the calmer waters, while the beach consists of soft sand and pebbles. This is one of the wilder areas of Vinátta, as the relentless waves and salty air have washed away nearly all traces of human occupancy.
Rán's Watch |
Hoggva Strand |
Sing Sands Dunes |
An old lighthouse weathered by the passage of time. Named after the Norse goddess Rán, it stands tall above the rolling waves as a beacon of safety to passing sailors. The paint is all but worn off, and the windows cracked and busted. In the winter, the entire building becomes coated in a thick layer of ice from the spray of the sea. There are a couple of empty rooms which have remained mostly dry, but others have rotting floorboards and patches of damp on walls and ceilings. The items inside are unremarkable at best; a few coils of frayed rope, a couple rusted tools, and other miscellany. The highest level, the room in which the light used to burn, is more dangerous still but if one was brave enough to climb the creaking spiral stair to the top, they might discover the intelligent, old osprey that makes his home here. The view of the ocean, even with the danger of the rickety rail make the climb definitely worthwhile however. (Created by Leah & Rat) |
Also known as the Hopewell Cape. The high tides of the Bay are especially prominent on the Hoggva Strand, where large rocks up to seventy feet high have been carved from the ebb and flow of the tides. At low tide, this area is a fun place to explore: check out the odd topheavy shapes and arches of the rocks, or chase nesting shorebirds on the cliffs! However, Luperci are advised to avoid the high tides, which completely cover the beach twice a day. An unsuspecting canine might very well get washed away or trapped in the caves and other sandstone formations carved by the water. The most common shorebird species are sandpipers, dowitches, plovers, knots, sanderlings, and dunlins. Peregrine falcons, merlins, osprey, cormorants, eider ducks, and the great blue heron are also common to the area. Horned and barred owls have also occasionally been spotted. (Created by Raze & Tammi) |
At the edge of the coastline are the singing sand dunes. Steep semi-fixed dunes with a great view of the whole coastline and, in the other direction, of the interior of the territory. Discovered by a founding member of Vinátta, Bran Stormbringer, he is convinced these should be called the Bran Dunes, and knows that taking a piece of driftwood, standing on it, and skimming down them, is just about as much fun as you can have while keeping a clear head. Other than looking really cool, the dunes have another surprise: they sing. The ridges made by the sand make an eerie noise when the wind is blowing in the right direction and passes over them. The noise is incredibly haunting, doubtless leading some to believe that spirits, benevolent or otherwise, reside there. Despite there being no sign of this, it’s a strange place sometimes. (Created by Draiko) |
4.4 Amherst

Vinátta expanded their territory north to claim a section of Amherst, to include various stores and a children's playground and park. Amherst was a large and sprawling town in the time of humanity. Its remnants are a queer mix of early construction -- sprawling Victorian homes and stone churches -- and evidence of rising commercialism -- warehouses and big chain stores. One thing both new warehouse and old Victorian share are the signs of natural reclamation -- even in this once-bustling town, signs of human occupation are decaying quickly. Saplings and shrubs sprout from cracks in the asphalt, and the sidewalks slowly lose their battle with the roots of elder trees.
Rainbow Towers |
Stálormr Path |
Hallet's Cove |
Colorful markings of graffiti coat any flat surface of the play park. The "castle" is made up of two towers, with bars of rusted metal keeping them up and funny, random shaped sides covering them. Each tower has an accompanying slide, which had remained strong over the years, although enough weight put on it will cause a collapse. One of the towers is connected to smaller ones by a spiderweb of rope, which had turned green over time of damp decay. There is a clear difference between the two towers, both in color and size. The tower connected by tangled ropes has a theme of deep blue, which has faded to a lighter blue over time. The larger tower is covered by pyramid shaped roofs, protecting its inside by minor drops of rain. The smaller tower's bright, sun yellow has faded into a cream over the years, and unlike the larger tower, it doesn't have a roof, and is therefore exposed to attacks from the weather. (Created by Jazzy) |
The Amherst Railway Station is an otherwise nondescript red building, with strange steel tracks spanning through the town and out into the wilderness of New Brunswick and even possibly the rest of Nova Scotia. No one knows how far this trail goes, but the section of it in what was formerly Vinátta has been dubbed the Stálormr Path and marks a natural trail through the territory where trees were cleared down by humans. The route is a very scenic one, though occasionally the rusted skeletons of old railway cars dot the tracks -- a good place to hide out a storm. Many of the fields created by the railroad are full of deer, rabbits, and other animals that prefer a more open area to feed or burrow. (Created by Raze) |
This old harbor town was once a quiet little turnout on the outskirts of Amherst. The few boats lining the banks are half sunk into the muck, or otherwise submerged in the still waters of the inlet and are completely unusable. Many of the docks that just out into the water are missing boards or suffering from extreme decay due to the damp, and quite dangerous to walk on. However, there are a few gems to be found in the old fishery shops; hooks, rods, and even old gear have been stored away out of the weather, and remain in relatively good condition! 5. Pack Relationships

Northern Packs
|
Southern Packs
|
5.1 Former Pack Relations
Sangi'lak
Vinátta had strained relations with this pack, due mainly to their close proximity and vastly different beliefs. They endeavored to stay out of each others' way to avoid conflict, barring several failed attempts to improve their shaky truce. The birth of Bel Tlu'gv and Orvar Stormbringer, offspring resulting from the forbidden romance between Ascher Stormbringer and Sequoia Exultare, marked the disbandment of the pack.
- Jaden and X'ies of SK met with Saul and Lilin in July 2012, to discuss their territory diplomatically. It ends poorly when Lilin asks them to move west, and Jaden refuses. [51]
- This is followed by several encounters between SK and VN members, most of which remain tense and unfriendly:
- Shiloh meets a lone dog named Jordyn near SK borders in September 2012, and are openly threatened by X'ies, narrowly avoiding a scuffle. Jordyn then joins VN for her protection. [52] [53]
- Niernan meets X'yrin at the Grand Lake in September 2012. They both leave the encounter believing each other to be sorely misguided. [54]
- X'ies and Shylome call at the borders, intending to glean more about VN, but they are purposely ignored and leave in contempt. [55]
- Palaydrian reaches out to her friend X'yrin in November 2012. They get on well, but then X'ies confronts Palaydrian to ask why she did not move her family to SK instead of VN, and alludes to war in their future. [56] [57]
- Sky visits X'yrin in December 2012 for much the same reason, and is pressed to explain why she chose VN for the welfare of her family, and why Sangi'lak and New Dawn both did not suit her. [58]
- Shiloh meets a lone wolf named Naira near SK borders in December 2012, and X'yrin arrives to drive Shiloh off and take charge of Naira's welfare. [59]
- January 2013, diplomats Sequoia of SK and Raeka Rain of ND visit VN to speak of improving their relations. They are met by guardians Shiloh and Bran, and leader Colibri, and are cautiously optimistic that things could change. [60]
- February 2013, Asgeir Exultare and X'joroan Exultare of Sangi'lak cross the borders seeking help for their trapped family. Palaydrian, Jiva, and Niernan assist the Nomads. [61]
- March 2013, Croatoan of Sangi'lak brings gifts and visits peacefully at the borders. She is met by Araedi Tayui Aston and Bran Stormbringer, though Bran does not trust the visitor and tells her to leave. Tayui then continues their conversation in private. [62] [63]
- April 2013, Shiloh and Glasgow have a negative encounter with a high-ranking member of Sangi'lak, Lyris Stryder. [64]
- May 2013, Ascher Stormbringer has a positive encounter with a high-ranking member of Sangi'lak, Sequoia Exultare -- the same diplomat who visited VN months earlier. [65]
- May 2013, foxes Leaf Darkfire and his companion Ivy accidentally trespass in search of chickens, and are chased out by Sequoia Exultare. [66]
- July 2013, Lochlan Stormbringer's secret training with X'yrin Exultare of Sangi'lak is discovered by none other than his father, Niernan. [67]
- September 2013, Ascher Stormbringer finds Sequoia Exultare near the borders waiting for him. The couple confess their forbidden love for one another, and despite acknowledging it could never work out, share an intimate encounter that leads to the conception of a litter. (Mature content: [68])
- September 2013, Sangi'lak moves away from the Grand Lake. Colibri, Shiloh, Ascher, and Lochlan bring goodwill gifts to their new territory, and meet with leaders X'yrin and Sequoia for diplomacy purposes. They do not make much progress. [69]
- October 2013, Ascher Stormbringer visits SK to see Sequoia, and learns he will be a father. [70] He then meets with X'yrin. [71]
Cercatori d'Arte
- Vinátta was friendly with members of this pack, mainly due to family ties and trading. They had no official alliance, but got along well and welcomed visitors and traders alike.
- Several CDA members trade with VN members during their travels in July 2012. Notably Levent Kartal trades a kitten for Grace D'Angelo's untrained horse, Mai. [72] [73]
- Eclipse Soulstorm visited her relatives in VN in July 2012, preparing a feast for all its members as well as offering goodwill gifts in the name of CDA. [74]
- Honrin Wolfe-Denahlii aided in the construction of the Sveit Village Hall in July and August, as payment for the horse (Artan) Saul gave to his mother Jace Wolfe. [75] [76]
- Eclipse and her mate Robert Frost Collins take shelter in VN during the September 2012 hurricane. [77]
- Shiloh Dawnbringer visits them in December 2012, meeting with Taliesin dir Rhiannon and learning of his family ties in VN. [78]
- Skye Collins leads a group of CDA members to visit VN for a week in July 2013. They celebrate with a feast. [79]
New Dawn
- Vinátta was friendly with members of this pack, as they share a close proximity and many former members. They had no official alliance, but got along well and once sought the possibility of an arranged mateship to tie the packs by blood. Their sudden and violent disbandment was upsetting to VN, who wants to punish those responsible for the attack.
- Jiva Takekuro, Palaydrian Soul, Leaf Darkfire, and Lena Rhiannon defected from New Dawn to join Vinátta in October 2012. They still have strong ties to their previous pack, and wish to remain on good terms. [80]
- Soran Aatte and Noah Sawtooth of ND risk traveling to bring news to VN in October 2012, warning them of Amy Sunders. [81]
- Sky Rhiannon, Cody Rhiannon, and Shawchert Menue defected from New Dawn to join Vinátta in December 2012. [82]
- Shiloh Dawnbringer and Colibri Haki visit New Dawn as emissaries of peace in December 2012. They meet leader Zalen Damaichu and discuss Sangi'lak. [83]
- Florina Soul and Auguste Aston defected from Vinátta to join New Dawn in April 2013, though Auguste soon returned to VN. [84]
- Adonis Nero and Marcello DeMonte-DiSarinno defected from New Dawn to join Vinátta in April 2013. [85]
- July 2013, leaders Zalen Damaichu and Colibri Haki meet unofficially to discuss pack matters and Florina's status. [86]
- October 2013, Zalen Damaichu visits VN informally to seek a suitor for his daughter Veyra. [87]
- November 2014, Zalen's son Kerrian appears on the borders after leaving New Dawn and seeks to join VN under Florina Soul's terms. [88]
- January 2015, Florina Soul receives word that New Dawn is suffering from a "curse", and she goes to help them without a second thought. [89] Upon arrival, Florina learns that Zalen Damaichu has just died. She visits his remains and acknowledges him as a father to her. [90] Florina hunts for the sick wolves, meets Marius Damaichu and Vuk Amarok, who inadvertently infect her. [91]
Midnight Shores
- Vinátta had a good relationship with their predecessor CdA, and is interested in forging a fresh bond with Midnight Shores.
- July 2015, Skye Collins and Janus Stormfall of Midnight Shores visit to discuss pack relations with Florina Soul and Miskunn Stormbringer. [92]
