    5.   3.5  Fledgling Houses
    6.   3.6  Historical Houses

Over the great ages since our creation, the culture of Salsola has become increasingly civilised. Its constant drive toward technological progression and symbolic elevation from the primitive lifestyles of many other Luperci have led the Thistle Kingdom to place great value in the structures — both hierarchical, heretical, and hereditary — that form the pillars of its society. Whilst there is no greater Law than the Law of rank and Crown, this has not stopped the cultural adoption of a secondary form of social order, determined by one’s status upon birth; The familial House.

From foundation to present day, the involvement of continuous bloodlines within Salsola’s history have led to some Houses bearing greater informal status than others. To be the product of a bloodline that has earned such a reputation is to be a member of a Salsolan House. The placement of a House within the subversive informal categories depends entirely upon the notable progressions of the carriers of its name. Just because one lone individual achieves great acclaim within the Kingdom does not guarantee their bloodline the comfort of House esteem, only secures their own individual notoriety.

OOC NOTE: It is important to note that Houses are flavor-content only, and do not bear any implications for promotion or demotion during Salsola’s monthly activity check. No favoritism is granted by Leadership to characters of any particular House. All members, regardless of character House, are treated first and foremost according to their IC rank, which will always have the most significance on roleplay within Salsola.

1.  In-Game Fun

Interested in some fun ways to implement this flavor-content in-game? Read on! As always, this is all completely voluntary. Players are not expected to uphold all (or any!) of these if they do not wish to participate in this extra game content!

Click for more...
  • House Sigils — Each House chooses a banner to represent itself.
    • Largely symbolic, these sigils are sometimes worn by members of a House, or displayed on their homes and possessions.
    • There is no mandated use for a House sigil; it can be as integral IC as a player chooses. The only specified use of this imagery is on a banner that is hung in the Feasting Hall, IF the House is a Noble one. At present, Noble House banners hang in a line on the crumbling stone wall behind the Boss’ chair at the head of the feasting table.
  • Conversation — The use of a House can be used in greeting a fellow Salsolan of a similar or lesser rank, or when inquiring about one’s family.
    • For example, a greeting might go as such: “Welcome, Wolf of House Blue!”, or an inquiry might go as such, “Wolf, how does House Blue fare after such poor trade?”.
  • Biases and Stereotypes — Members from Houses may have certain predispositions or expected traits / skills that their House is known for.
    • Perhaps members of House A are particularly known for being silver-tongued traders, or, maybe are known for being overly snooty towards lower-ranking members.
  • House Feuds — Though Salsolans are expected (as a whole) to be loyal to the pack and its members, like every family, some branches just don't get along with others!
    • Maybe House A and House B are known for having a strong dislike for each other because of XYZ reason!
    • Maybe a particular member is looked down upon by the rest of their House...
    • Maybe a House is in danger of splitting into two as members take sides!
  • Hierarchy with the Hierarchy — While one's IC rank within Salsola is ultimately (and officially) what decides one's status, the prestige of one's House may also play an unofficial role in one's social standing amongst their own peers.
    • For example, a member of a Noble House may perceive themselves to be "better" than someone of a Lesser House of the same rank.
  • House Leader — A House is commonly thought of as having a Head of House that leads it in the interest of consolidating familial wealth and prestige.
    • This matriarch or patriarch does not need to be the oldest surviving member of the House, nor necessarily the highest ranked; This is something for Players to decide themselves, depending on what makes the most sense IC.
    • If desired by the Player and their House members, the House's Head duties could include things like: ensuring the House's prestige through trade, Jobs, or other skills; suggesting (or pressuring) political match ups, business deals, etc. with other Houses; or ensuring that House members are upheld to a certain standard.
    • OOCly, remember that this is all for flavor content! This unofficial role should never be abused or used to coerce or bully other Players or their characters :(
  • Joining, Creating, or Abandoning a House — Make the most of movement to, between, or from Houses! It's your story to tell! ;)
    • Being adopted into a House could be seen as a great honor! Or, could be cause for disdain by House members who do not approve.
    • Pledging loyalty to a House could be something done willingly or begrudgingly!
    • Creating a new House could be a way to make a name for one's self, or, be used to cut ties from an existing House.
    • Renouncing one's name to a House could be done for any number of reasons. It could seen as an act of rebellion or making a statement, could be done for completely innocent reasons (mateship, to honor someone else, etc.), to cut ties from the House, or for something else!

2.  Create and Editing Houses

A House (or bloodline) only becomes relevant in Salsola if a number of factors are fulfilled. The status of a House depends entirely upon the on-board historical and current actions of those which hold its familial name. Read on for more instructions and information about how to qualify for a House, and where your House would be situated within the informal pecking order.

Click for more...
What qualifies as a House?

For a character’s familial line to qualify as a House within Salsola, it must have no less than three (3) current or previously members of the pack that hold / held the familial surname when they were actively played.

  • Example 1: Hybrid Blue is a current member of Salsola, and his ancestors, Wolf Blue and Hound Blue, were also actively played members of Salsola two years ago. House Blue is a viable House.
  • Example 2: Coy Red is currently an active member of Salsola, having joined with his cNPC brother, Yote Red. Yote Red is not a played character, and Coy has no other ancestors who were played as members of Salsola. House Red is not a viable House — but, if Yote Red is adopted and actively played, plus an additional relative (child, parent, mate, sibling, adoptee — the options are endless) bearing the surname Red is played, House Red will then become a viable House.

If there are only two characters of the same bloodline in the pack, they may be offhandedly considered a Fledgling House, or a House-to-be. They will remain as a Fledgling House until the proper requirements are met to qualify as a viable and officially recognized House.

How to determine a House Prestige's

The fame of a House is determined by the notoriety of the members of its bloodline — in clear terms, the IC Ranking of characters that hold the familial surname of the House.

A House will fit into one of the below categories:

  • Royal House: Three or more members of this House have been ranked in the Mafiosi.
  • Noble House: Three or more members of this House have been ranked Inner Ring or higher.
  • Lesser House: Three or more members of this House are ranked in the Central Ring.
  • Fell House: One or more members of this House have, at some, point been Servitori, thus tainting their familial name even if they rise to a higher rank.

Of course, House Prestige is not necessarily static. A Lesser House could, for instance, become a Noble House if the required number of their kin are promoted into the Inner Ring. This is certainly more common than the reverse — Once a House has become Noble, it is unlikely to fall from status unless the players involved in that House determine that they wish it to, or there is a prolonged period of time where there are no active characters from that bloodline in the pack. We ask our players to keep tabs of House Prestige on their own time. If you believe your character's House is owed a rise in Prestige, please let Leadership know!

Though there is no precedent for it IC, perhaps a Fell House can be redeemed... Or perhaps a Noble House can fall into disregard...
Creating House Sigils

When choosing a sigil for your House, be sure to keep in mind what is realistically portrayable for Luperci craftspeople. The simpler your House iconography, the better! We recommend using colors that are easy to create in rudimentary dyes for fabric, and shapes and patterns that are simplistic enough to be carved into wood or stitched into fabric.

This Wiki Page displays the House sigil on a banner alongside its details. Blank versions of these banners have been pre-made for use. The variety is only in the styling at the bottom of the banner, which is entirely for flare, because we’re fancy like that. Please choose one to put your House’s emblem onto — DO NOT use your own banner template, or it will be removed.

If you do not have image editing software, please post in Maintenance thread or in the SL Discord, where Leadership or another helpful Salsolan player will be able to give you a hand!

Adding a House to the Wiki

Once you have consolidated all the necessary information, be sure to add your House to this Wiki Page to enable other players to begin referencing it IC! If you have any questions or queries about this process or to do with Houses in Salsola, please contact our OOC Account for assistance. If you're not confident in updating the Wiki yourself, make use of our Maintenance thread!

3.  House Directory

Note: This page is intended as a reference of information that would be relevant to and would be (generally) known ICly within Salsola. Please see actual family pages to if you wish to know full family linages.

  • Only families that were active in Salsola from 2019+ have had their familial Houses notated here.

Guidelines:

  • Characters should only be listed if their lineage is known ICly. (Show Examples)
  • Ex. Odalis Amaranthe is actually a child of Bacchus Revlis, however, this is not known ICly. Because of this, she should not be listed as a Non-Contributing member to House Revlis despite actually being an immediate descendent of a Revlis member.
  • A character may be listed under more than one House regardless of their surname, but, to count toward a House’s prestige, they must bear the same name as the House. (Show Examples)
  • Ex. Krios Revlis is the child of a Heiwa and a Revlis. He may be listed under both House Revlis and House Heiwa. However, due to using the surname Revlis IC, he may only count toward House Revlis’ notoriety.
  • Ex. Coaxoch Ulrich-Lykoi has a hyphenated surname, and is the child of an Ulrich and a Lykoi. He may only count towards one House's notoriety. If he chooses to be listed under House Ulrich, he may only be listed as a Non-Contributing member of House Lykoi.
  • "Non-Contributing" membership indicate members who are not currently contributing to the House's notoriety. These members are limited to characters who have ties to a particular House through immediate family and/or donors. This is to keep Houses relevant and tidy, as well as to prevent them from being flooded with members with only long-distant relations to that particular House. Remember! This is page not intended to act as a secondary Family wiki page! (Show Examples)
  • Ex. John Smith is the child of a Smith and a Doe. John has taken the name "Smith", so he can only be listed as a Non-Contributing member of House Doe.
  • Ex. Lyra Salcedo's mothers are Lilia Salcedo and Indra Winters, and their donor was Bacchus Revlis. She may only be listed as a Non-Contributing member to Houses Revlis and Winters.
    • Although Lyra also has ancestral ties to Houses D’Angelo and de le Poer as well, since neither of her parents or donor held those names at the time of her birth, she should not be listed as a Non-Contributing member of those Houses.
  • Ex. Eden de le Ulrich was the child of an Ulrich and a de le Poer. She choose to be listed under House Ulrich, therefore, she could only be listed as a Non-Contributing member of House de le Poer.
    • Despite her father, Coaxoch Ulrich-Lykoi, having a hyphenated surname, Coaxoch was aligned under House Ulrich when Eden was born. Therefore, Eden cannot be listed as a Non-Contributing member of House Lykoi. This is mostly to help with simplifying what counts as a Non-Contributing member and what does not.
    • When Eden later formed her own House under the de le Ulrich name, she was still allowed to be listed as a Non-Contributing member of House de le Poer. However, because she essentially renounced her membership to the Ulrich household, she may only be listed as a Previous member under House Ulrich; she cannot be listed as a Non-Contributing member.
  • "Previous" membership means members who have either renounced their surname or have been otherwise outcast from a particular House, or, individuals who have altogether left Salsola.

3.1  Royal Houses

Members born into one of these Houses are often considered Highborns or nobles in Salsolan society, and are part of its upperclass. Only those that have immediate familial ties with the current (or previous) Mafiosi are seen and treated as actual Royalty. Historically, the Royal Houses have been prominent names within the Thistle Kingdom since its founding, and many members can often trace their bloodlines back to various leaders and sub-leaders within Salsola's expansive history in one way or another; be it through direct relations or distant ones. Regardless, for better or for worse, their name holds weight when spoken. Those with indirect or distant ties to the Thistle Crown may live a lifestyle more similar to those of other noblemen and women of Salsola's upperclass; however, even so, some may still feel the pressure that their House name holds. With such status often comes certain expectations, after all...

  • Category Requirements: Three or more members of this House have been ranked in the Mafiosi.

Banner

House Eternity
Banner
Eternity
Description

Wolfish blood is often found through this family, which tends towards larger individuals. Known for their ruthlessness and intelligence, members of House Eternity can be found walking many paths of life – and generally, making their way towards the top. Rumors of incest and violence often circle the line, though most members will not discuss these so openly.

History

A foundational House of Salsola. Salsola history began with the Black Witch, Eris, after whom the Hand of Eris (pack symbol) was created. The legacy of this House casts a long, foreboding shadow.

3.2  Noble Houses

Members born into one of these Houses are often considered Highborns or nobles in Salsolan society, and are part of its upperclass. The dedication and contributions of a few have allowed all that hold their familial name to be held in a similar prestige and notoriety. These individuals have either held the rank — or are bloodkin of — a nobleman or Faction Elite or figurehead. As such, there is often a certain pride to be had in carrying the name of a Noble House; members may be seen as prime examples of Salsolan culture or its long history, and their House is often associated with being a longstanding one. This class is the highest a House can go amongst the Kingdom's denizens, and is a status that many more ambitious individuals may strive to hold and claim for themselves and theirs. Although individual wealth within these Houses may vary, many are left wanting for little or nothing, and may enjoy (or despise) the societal privileges that come with their House's esteemed status or perceived luxuries.

  • Category Requirements: Three or more members of this House have been ranked in the Inner Ring or higher.

Note: Houses are listed alphabetically.

House Blacksun
Banner
Blacksun
Description

Blood members are noted for their giant, formidable size and pure, wolf blood. A vast majority of Blacksuns have proven to be superb fighters. The females of this House have historically raised ravens to be used as tools of their work via reconnaissance.

History

The House began its roots in Salsola through its original matriarch, Kaeli. Those that are not Kaeli’s blood descendants were were adopted in or were made honorary members by Kaeli herself.

History

A historically large, prolific, and widespread House, there are a few D'Angelos that can tie their ancestry to one of the Kingdom's founders, Larkspur, though, more commonly, many may hold ties to non-Salsolan, Misery. In Salsola, D’Angelos have taken on a great variety of talents, skills, and job pursuits over the many years since the Kingdom’s founding.

The Prizmovs are an enigmatic family of wolfdogs, hailing from a mysterious and far off land across the sea. The members of this House are typically ambitious and eccentric individuals. The Prizmov bloodline incorporates themes of plurality, oddity, occultism, rebirth, and individualism.

History

A bloodline derived from an infamous family found in Russia's coldest, darkest reaches. The Prizmov name was newly forged by its Head of House in Nova Scotia to escape the cruelty of its cultist ancestry. 3.3  Lesser Houses

Members born into one of these Houses are often considered Commoners in Salsolan society, and are part of its middleclass. Although they are lower in social status than those of the Royal or Noble Houses, individuals of Lesser Houses are not necessarily looked down upon. Lest the nobility forget, individual rank and prestige can hold just as much weight (or more!) as one's House, and a vast majority of Noble Houses were once Lesser ones. Regardless, these individuals are often seen as loyal and dedicated citizens of the Thistle Kingdom, and help keep the pack aloft. Their existence at all proves that they and theirs have made Salsola their home, and are a prime example of the pack's continued growth and diversity. Individuals that hold higher ranks may be especially praised and held in higher regard than the rest of their House, may be seen as ambitious, or — depending on the Salsolan — may be seen as overstepping their class' status. It is not uncommon for individuals of Lesser Houses to want to "marry up" into a Noble or Royal House.

  • Category Requirements: Three or more members of this House have been ranked in the Central Ring.

Note: Houses are listed alphabetically.

House de le Poer
Banner

[ No House Sigil ]

Description

Within Salsola, the de le Poers are known for their tactical prowess and inclinations towards battle, as well as their skill with horses. Most de le Poers tend to have darker, warmer tones in their fur. Facial markings are common, as are blue eyes. Many members of this family originated from Airgid Gleann, and have connections to Salsola's royal families.

History

The de le Poer bloodline boasts ancestral connections to the land, stretching all the way back to Silent Dawn. The family is full of individuals whom displayed exceptional leadership qualities, though darker, more dangerous afflictions have been known to follow the family. This large family has many branches, and splits between former Inferni members and foreign bloodlines.

3.4  Fell Houses

Members born into one of these Houses are often considered Lowborns in Salsolan society, and are part of its lowerclass. It only takes one named individual to hold a debt for their familial name to be associated with servitude. Those belonging to a Fell House may be looked down upon, and may be seen as having lesser or tainted blood when compared to those of their peers, regardless of individual merits, success, wealth, or rises in rank. As a result, some ex-Servitori choose to change their surname to shed the shadow of belonging to a Fell House. It is not uncommon for it to be seen as a slight to be married to someone of a Fell House, just as it's not uncommon for someone of a Fell House to want to "marry up" into a Lesser, Noble, or Royal House. Despite their low social status, however, being Salsolan-born may allow for certain individuals to still be held in higher regard than those who are Outsiders that were later indoctrinated into the Kingdom. As well, some of Salsola's most intelligent, steadfast, hardworking, and reliable members may come from a Fell House, although, so too, may it have some of its most simple-minded, rebellious, submissive, or jaded.

  • Category Requirements: One or more members of this House have, at some, point been Servitori.

Note: Houses are listed alphabetically.

Description

Hailing from the East, this house is comprised of dominantly jackal-wolf hybrids. The Kaisers are self-sufficient and hardworking. They are multi-lingual, and often have skills as hunters, fighters, spies, and/or traders.

History

The original Kaiser, Heine, came to the Kingdom as a slave, and though he earned his freedom and his daughter rose to Emissary, the House remains low due to their roots in the Kingdom as slaves and for Kamil's desertion.

3.5  Fledgling Houses

A "Fledgling House" is an off-handed term for informal Houses that have not yet established a strong enough foothold within Salsola, and are, instead, considered an "upcoming" House or a House-to-be. Fledgling Houses may come about for a variety of reasons, and can disappear just as easily. In most cases, it is simply the addition of new blood being introduced into the Kingdom, often from indoctrinated (non-Salsolan born) individuals. In others, a Fledgling House may be created out of rebellious reasons, or, as a rebirth or split from an older bloodline. Some particularly ambitious newly-wed couples may desire to shed their previous House allegiance(s) in favor of creating a new lineage of their own. It is also not uncommon for ex-Servitori individuals to briefly fall within a Fledging House as they seek to distance themselves from their previous lowerclass status. Overall, depending on the ranks of its founding members, these aspiring Houses could potentially be of any social class once officially recognized. As they are not "official," however, these Houses-to-be do not have lineage scrolls within Salsola's Library (and are also not listed in our Historical section found further down).

  • Category Requirements: Must have a at least two characters that share the same surname. Fledgling Houses cannot become an official House until they have 3 played characters sharing the same surname.

3.6  Historical Houses

Many of these Houses are those that no longer have an active presence or notable linage-holder within Salsola Proper. There are others, however, that have otherwise fallen into Salsolan history. Perhaps, one day, they may be revived. (Show)

House Greygrief

Greygrief
Description

Heavy hybrids, though, predominately coyote and wolf-blooded.

History

Wanting to create their own legacy, D'Angelo House member, Narcissa, and ex-slave/servant, Andrew, formed House Greygrief after their forced betrothal. The House was born from scandalous, secretive affairs, and was legitimized by the House’s founders producing heirs. It suffered a notable loss in its infancy when Proctor Andrew was “murdered” in the summer of 2020.

Description

A bloodline of respectable quality, common Salcedo traits are a facile wit, deep loyalty, and a talent for sword fighting. They may range in appearance, but are often dog hybrids with short fur, willowy physiques, and striking violet eyes.

House Soul
Banner
Soul
Description

An old House with a good reputation. Dependable, strong, and somewhat enigmatic; their members are less interested in ambitious pursuits than they are in maintaining the order of their society. Known for their fighting prowess, this line can be expected to contribute at least one soldier each generation.

History

Soul is an old bloodline, tracing back before the foundation of Salsola itself. It has notable ties with House Lykoi; both the founding member of Salsola Itachi Lykoi and former Crone Loki Helsi were Soul by blood. Many descendents have been leaders outside the domain of Salsola, but where these other Kingdoms have fallen, it is here the Soul survives.
