OOC Information

Yamato Okada was a small-time trader from across the world, having spent his formative months in his native Japan before taking to the high seas. Following a several-year stint in Europe, Yamato made the journey across the pond and entered North America through the southern United States before following the supply chain all the way to Nova Scotia. It was after spending a decent amount of time putting his ear to the ground in Portland that he encountered Viridian Rose Soul, initially a buyer of his more indulgent offerings, but quickly became a friend — and, against Matt’s usual policies of not sleeping with clients, something more.

Their romance was not meant to last, however. Matt, who was previously very wary of his own product and not known to dabble in narcotics as it was, did not nearly have the tolerance that Viri had built up overtime. One fatal concoction of opium, marijuana, and alcohol led to Matt accidentally overdosing and dying in his frantic lover’s arms.

It was discovered shortly after his death that a piece of him remained behind: Viridian was pregnant. Distraught and in no way capable of raising children on her own, a quickly-spiraling Viri fled the Casa outpost in lieu of the New Caledonian Citadel, where she was able to claw her way back into the good graces of her former mentor, Fennore.

Matt’s children, Hinako and Gidora Soul, were born shortly thereafter, though they know very little about their late father besides his name.

General

Personality

Only as friendly as he needed to be and not a hair more, Yamato was stern and unyielding, known for being a hard-ass amongst his frequent customers. Still, this isn’t to say he was unlikeable: his no-bullshit approach to his trade seemed to benefit him more than burn him, though he hardly lived a fun and easy life. Being exposed to so many different walks of life has given Matt a unique perspective on the world. In reality, he was relatively open-minded and willing to hear others out — his way of doing things and operating was just better, and he would let no one tell him differently.

Though the nature of his profession had a revolving door of interesting faces coming to him for his services, and there was certainly no shortage of those willing to keep him company for more exotic stock — Matt was, even to his dying day, incredibly lonely. In his younger years he fell in and out of love just enough for him to write off the notion altogether, realizing that many patrons only played nice in order to cut a better deal or swindle him in some way.

Meeting Viridian, who seemed harmless at first, challenged this way of thinking, and he found himself drawn to her for reasons he at first could not explain. Every bit as stubborn as himself, and just about as pessimistic, Viridian nevertheless was gregarious and devil-may-care, encouraging Matt to try to actually enjoy himself and all the portside city had to offer instead of only working to survive. In the short time they spent together, she teased genuine affection out of him as he began to open up.

Appearance

His build was like an average wolf’s in that he was sturdily-built and stocky, though his auburn coloration was a nod toward his dog blood. Matt had a large head with boxy ears, and there was a slight curl to his tail, similar to his Akita ancestors. Though not overly tall, he was still physically imposing enough to not be pushed around very easily. A reddish-brown saddle faded to off-white creams on his extremities with a noticeable pale patch on the base of his tail amidst the ginger fur. His eyes were a forest green. Matt frowned a lot more than he smiled.
