Umut (NPC of [[Characters/Levent Kartal]]

Umut was a skittish horse, formerly neglected and later nursed back to health by Levent Kartal. He was later killed and eaten by a loner.

1.  Appearance

• Size: 15hh tall, average
• Features: One chewed ear, saddle scars, a little thin
• Coloration: Sooty buckskin
• Gear: Primitive-style saddle (leather and pelt) and plain hackamore.

2.  Personality

Due to past neglect, Umut wa a very submissive and skittish horse who requires a very gentle hand. Years with Levent Kartal on the road and in crowded cities have conditioned him a little better to these things, but he still disliked being touched by strangers and demonstrated stable vices such as wood chewing, cribbing, and weaving. He "attached" himself to his caretakers to the point of separation anxiety.

2.1  Skills & Abilities Umut was trained for riding -- light riding only, due to his physical condition. He is a "spooky" horse and only functions well under one rider.

2.2  Likes & Dislikes Liked Levent. Disliked most everything else -- it's scary!

3.  History

• Early life unknown, but suffered neglect from his owners.
• Rescued from Levent Kartal, who traded a vast amount of goods for the ill-kept horse. Levent's comforting nature and penchant for Low Speech helped the horse he named Umut ("hope" in Turkish), but only so much; Levent had few resources as a wandering trader.
• A band of Romani assisted Levent and agreed to help Umut recuperate; the horse stayed with them for a few years, gaining weight and becoming used to Luperci again.
• When the Romani group fell on hard times, Umut was traded away to peddlers crossing the sea. He spent a lot of time in Freetown, but his shy nature and emaciated appearance (especially after an improbable journey overseas) meant that he was worth little. He was overlooked for months, and eventually slated to become meat.
• By unique circumstance, Levent found and recognized him. He stole the horse, though later he was attacked and kidnapped by the person he'd stolen Umut from. They were separated from each other when Levent was whisked back across the ocean.
• Umut roamed as a wild horse for some time, bullied by more dominant animals, until a hungry loner attacked and killed the half-stared horse.
