Rabbit

Rabbit was a member of New Caledonia, ranked as a Peer.

He was born on New Caledonia's territory and raised there by absentee parents who abandoned him soon after his first shift. Rabbit learned to fend for himself early on, the hound-dog in him making him an excellent tracker. One day he awoke to strangers living in the lands that had lain mostly vacant for so long. After attempting to steal from the King Iomair, Rabbit was chased off by the City Watch to fend for himself -- but after surviving a lonely winter, he decided that perhaps his life would be easier if he joined the pack.

Rabbit is a good-hearted boy beneath his dour mood, if bashful about his namesake: his overly-large ears. He had a knack for horses and contributes to the pack through various menial tasks and labor. He was often found in the Rhovanion, or tracking game in the woods.

In January 2022, during the A Tear in the Tapestry Plot, Rabbit sacrificed himself during a catapult attack in order to save the love of his life, Pippa Resnor.

Appearance

Overview

Rabbit's defining features are his long hound ears. He has bi-colored eyes -- one blue and one brown. He has heavy jowls that flap when he runs and make his smile particularly endearing. His hair is a messy mop of brindled fur that sometimes hangs into his eyes.

  • Humanization: Rabbit tends to go without clothes in the summer, though his humanization is quite high due to his exposure to the New Caledonians.
  • Clothing & Accessories: As a child he wore little else save for a collection of furs and as an adult this remains mostly unchanged. In winter he needs to wear layers due to his short fur.
  • Interaction
    • He tends to answer all questions with one word answers, but as you get to know him he does begin to open up. He does not like to be touched.
    • Speech: Rabbit stutters sometimes when he is nervous or bashful. Pretty women make this more apparent.
    • Scent: He smells like horses and hay.
    • Quirks, Gestures, Etc.: When Rabbit thinks he tends to pull on the ends of his ears, a habit which if noticed or pointed out makes him self conscious.
    • General Posture and Body Language: In general Rabbit holds himself loosely, like a laid back hound-dog. When he's under scrutiny or when he draws attention he stiffens up almost immediately and becomes awkward.

Personality

Traits

Rabbit can be a tough nut to crack. He is mistrusting of those who show kindness to him and is afraid of being abandoned by those he lets in close. New Caledonia has offered him a fresh start and he is eager to prove himself while battling insecurities that often make him second guess his work. The way to the hound's heart is often through food or mutual interests -- and Rabbit shows his true colors when speaking about the animals in the Realm. He has an affinity for the animals in the Rhovanion, and takes great pride in knowing each of the animals' personalities and names.

Skills

  • Animal Husbandry (Apprentice): Rabbit has a natural affiliation for working with animals. He reads their body language expertly, and though he is working on training animals he is able to care for them and assure that they have shelter and ample food sources.
  • Tracking (Journeyman): The long-eared boy spent a lot of time on his own and developed a knack for finding game trails. The hound in him makes it almost impossible for him not to follow small prey through the woods, and with his long ears and powerful nose he was practically made for it. His sense of smell is impeccable!
  • Menial Labor (Apprentice): Rabbit can function as something of a farm hand - a jack of all trades. Despite his shyness he is eager to please and happiest when working on tasks around the Realm.

Iomair allows the boy his freedom, but threatens that if he comes back he will set the City Watch on him. Little does he know that the boy will eventually decide that living in a pack is better than surviving alone.
