Osberht (NPC of [[Characters/Sonje Helsi]])

Osberht is a male wolverine from the uppermost reaches of Canada. Sonje Helsi rescued him from certain death, if only because she was interested in his High Speech ability. Though he does not consider himself owned, and is not around as often as her other companions, he travels after her and does her bidding -- what little of him she asks.

1.  Appearance

• Size: 22 in (at the shoulder) · ~40-60 lbs
• Features: A stocky, brutish build with short legs (his rump sitting higher than his shoulders), a broad head, and short, rounded ears. He has incredibly large teeth which are almost always visible, even when he's asleep, and a short tail, about 6-7 inches in legnth.
• Coloration:
  • Ironstone covers the majority of his body, appearing Millbrook in most places, and tinted a reddish Nutmeg in others.
  • Agouti-marking his fur, coloring his face, legs, belly, and the underside of his tail is his darkest hue, Shark, which also encompasses the insides of his ears, his nose, and his paw pads.
  • Quicksand lightly powders his crown and it is also indiscriminately visible across his spine and rump (even more so during the winter).
  • A formless patch of Westar sits on his neck and chest, silvering the backs of his ears as an afterthought. His claws are a more transparent version of this color.
  • His eyes, small and shiny in his face, are Van Cleef.
• Additional:
  • He has various scars in many places and with varying degrees of intensity, the most noticeable one cutting through his left eye.
    • His exposed scar tissue is colored Santa Fe.
  • Os sheds in heavy clumps during in the summer, making him itchy, irritable, and patchy. During the winter, his thick, hydrophobic fur makes him practically impervious to frost.
  • His scent is very pungent, and he scent-marks often.

2.  Personality

Just as grumpy and volatile as he appears, it is a distinct wonder why Osberht continually comes around Sonje and her company when he most obviously seems to detest it. He will complain or grumble, constantly, in both Low Speech and Broken High Speech (whichever seems most insulting to him at the time) but he will only react with tooth and claw if he or his food are directly threatened. Besides sleeping, he often makes unsuccessful attempts to kill The Twins.

2.1  Skills & Abilities He has a nose better than a canine's; Sonje most regularly uses him for tracking. Os is smarter than he acts. He is capable of Broken High Speech and will occasionally translate Low Speech. He understands many dialects from both types of Speech, but does not speak most of them. Incredibly strong, wily, and unyielding, Osberht is capable of taking down prey almost four times his size.

2.2  Likes & Dislikes Likes eating—Anything. Everything from berries to frozen carrion. Though not affectionate by any means, he is fond of Sonje. Dislikes everything else. Especially The Twins.

3.  History

• Osberht was a violent and ambitious youth, leaving his mother before his brother, and taking several wives across an expansive territory right up through his prime.
• Growing more complacent with his life, he began spending more time with his children and became less inclined to chase them off after their first birthday.
• His fifth oldest son turned out most like himself, and he fought and defeated his father for the area instead of being pushed out himself.
• Os lived a solitary life after that, meeting Sonje Helsi when he was trapped in a spike-bottomed hunter's pit. She rescued him only after she found it interesting he could understand her and return a few words of her language.
• Sonje nursed the grumpy animal back to peak condition, and though he did not promise to remain after serving her only once, he inexplicably began traveling wherever she went.
• Osberht didn't become his name until almost a year after they had been together.
