Maeve Tanith, born as Maeve Nahash is the daughter of Dalinda Nahash (nee Tanith) and Samael Nahash. She was born in Europe to the Nahash Crime Family. Her mother was one of the poisoners and healers, married to the heir to the crime family, Samael. Maeve took after her mother, following in Dalinda's footsteps to become a poisoner and healer. She trained under her mother and aunts. And as she grew up, she watched as her mother miscarried several litters and with each came her father being less kind to her and Dalinda, for he wanted a son to carry on the legacy. And then one day, Dalinda disappeared without warning. Samael acted as though she never had existed and married another woman. Maeve didn't seem to exist to him after that. When she was two years old, she fled the city, taking her mother's maiden name in order to sever ties with her father. She traveled through cities and towns, taking up jobs when they were offered and learning from apothecaries, healers, and poisoners. And then she met Lydia Tsillah, a merchant's daughter. They fell in love and were married a year after they met. They wanted to start a family, but it became apparent that Maeve could not have children. So Lydia carried the litter, giving birth to two sons and a daughter. Everything seemed to be going well. Until a fateful day six months later when the family was attacked. Lydia and the children were killed. Maeve never learned the reason why her family was killed, nor who ordered the hit. Maeve mourned but she had to carry on. The world was still a dangerous place for a former Nahash. She continued learning and putting her skills to use as she traveled through Europe. She had a plan, an endgame for herself. To get enough goods to trade for a passage across the sea, far away enough that she would not have to live in fear. She brewed remedies, crafted poisons, and treated patients for a few years. And then she managed to get enough goods to gain passage onto a boat to Portland. |

She has done a lot of things she's not proud of and hides her past as well as she can. She can be prickly and it takes a lot to get through the thorns. She's often sarcastic if not downright sardonic. But when she trusts someone or cares for someone, she will be loyal. She's highly intelligent with a keen memory and observant nature. She doesn't believe in being over-prepared, only under-prepared. She can be ruthlessly pragmatic. She knows when to stand by her morals but will also alter them as needed. She does have morals and lines she will not cross, most notably she will not harm children and she tries to minimize collateral damage. She tends to prefer her poisons to cause quick deaths, though for the morally reprehensible she might make an exception; usually towards rapists, abusers, and other such. As a healer, she upholds some of the Hippocratic Oath and will treat anyone in need of a healer. She is unbiased -- for the most part -- when it comes to healing. She's calm under pressure and adaptable. She is determined to help her patients although her bedside manner could use some work. She grew up in crime and from that she became an excellent liar. She can speak English and French fluently and Italian, Arabic, and German with varying levels of fluency. She can also mimic accents. |
