Flint Gaumond (fl-INN-T go-MON-d) is a member of Salsola, ranked as a member of the Family.

He grew up in a farming community, and became highly experienced in livestock and stock trade as a result. He lived a relatively normal childhood in Montana, and worked alongside his brothers and father as a livestock guardian that did carpentry on the side. While bringing in the family’s trading stock and goods to the local market on year, he met the feisty and beautiful Blanche Briarhart, with whom he found himself amused with, and, later, falling head-over-heels for. So much so, he once traded her two high-quality woolen fleeces for two measly chickens (a mistake that earned him a terrible, verbal lashing from his mother when he returned home). After he managed to woo Blanche, Flint and Blanche eventually moved further east where they had heard of a growing demand for livestock and other like-goods. They found suitable land, and eventually began their own farm. Things were going well until Flint went to the trading market one day. Upon returning home, Flint found his barn on fire, his fields scorched and fences broken, and two young rogues trying to fight and make off with his spitfire wife amongst the chaos. Flint managed to save Blanche, however, the life they had worked so hard for had already been lost. Their livestock had been either stolen or killed by the group of bandits, and their homestead was beyond saving from the fires. Perhaps worst of all though, Blanche lost the litter that they had worked for years to conceive.

With nothing else to do but move forward and start anew, the couple traveled further east, eventually arriving in Portland, Maine. There, they tried to gather new stock, only to meet Jaeger, who, upon seeing the couple’s expertise in judging “good/quality” livestock and hearing their story, dangled the possibility of enhancing a current flock, one that was well-protected from roaming bandits, and a place that could make use of their many talents and experiences. Having nothing to lose, the couple agreed, and joined Salsola in the late summer months of 2020, where they were sponsored by Kamari Kaiser.

Flint has since taken on the role of tending to the Kingdom’s vast livestock and seeing to repair work as problems arise.

When outside Salsola, Flint's alias is "Bear Roguetooth", a serious, stoic, stern-eyed muscle-for-hire with his own moral code and agenda.

Personality

Summarized: Stoic, blunt, serious, calm, patient, protective, can secretly be a big teddybear, observant, stubborn, hardworking, vengeful, dry sense of humor, can be sarcastic

Flint is a rather serious individual, and is often remembered best for his rather stony demeanor and facial expression. He’s a quiet man, and is more of an observer than an animated talker. He doesn’t like to wasted his breath, nor is he fond of repeating himself. When he does speak, it’s often blunt and matter-of-fact. He’s also stubborn, and is not easily persuaded to do something that he doesn’t agree with or the results are unfounded. He’s a logical man, and goes by what makes logical sense to him.

He’s not particularly known for his reactions, and getting one out of him often takes a considerable amount of effort. He is slow to anger, nearly impossible to get a rise out of (he will call bluffs), and he very rarely laughs (he huffs instead). This may make him come off as being gruff, uncaring, or, perhaps, slow. Do not be fooled though. Flint is much more intelligent than he might seem, and is more than willing to let others make a fool of themselves if they believe him to be simple and stupid. His sense of humor is rather dry, and Flint may sometimes make sardonic remarks on something.

Despite his stoic attitude, Flint does possess a secret, softer side, which is seen in his compassion towards baby animals/children and his love for his wife, Blanche. While you won’t ever see him cooing or using baby-talk, Flint is quite gentle with young animals/children, and will gladly play or let them walk/perch/sleep all over him. He may pretend to feel otherwise, or, act modest to Blanche’s affections/praises. With Blanche, it’s quite obvious that she is the boss of the couple’s relationship (if she’s happy, he’s happy kind of idea), but, Flint is by no means “whipped” either, he merely supports and loves Blanche.

To think he is just a big “softie” at heart though would be a mistake. Flint doesn’t just look mean and intimidating most of the time, he can also back it up. He is not a man to anger nor get on his bad side, as he is rather relentless when it comes to delivering his perceived justice. He can get very mean and violent if it means protecting his livestock, family, or those he is loyal to. As such, he does not take threats towards any of these lightly. He is not above making subtle (or not subtle) threats through cunning means (he’s got some brains to go with his brawn, after all!). He is the type of man you don’t make an enemy of, because he knows how to get rid of a body and be able to lie his way out of suspicion.

  • Motivations: ---
  • Fears: ---
  • Likes: His wife and making her happy/laugh or spoiling her, meat (especially moose), cooked potatoes, hearty stews, baby animals (secretly), lazy afternoons, taking care of livestock, working, a good wrestle/brawl
  • Dislikes: Someone/thing messing with or killing his livestock, being stolen from, being deceived/lied to, being treated as if he’s stupid or slow, wrongdoers getting away, whiny and/or weak individuals

Skills & Hobbies

Note: Listed skills are those that the character has some significant talent or interest in to be noteworthy. Skills that have been mastered (and are best expressed as such) are marked.

  • Animal Husbandry (Master)
Flint grew up and raised sheep and goats, and considers himself highly experienced and knowledgeable in their care and upkeep. He has mastered the art of shearing wool and rearing his flocks and herds. Outside of sheep, goats, and some minor knowledge and experience with horses, he is familiar enough with cattle and pigs to have an idea of their general upkeep, though, would need further hands-on experience to be considered even remotely competent with either.
  • Fighting (Master)
The guardian of his livestock and protector of his family, Flint is a formidable fighter. His preference is one of his feral forms (Lupus or Secui), though, he can hold his own well enough in Optime. He has a brawling fighting style, relying heavily on his innate strength, teeth, and weight to win him the match. He doesn’t much care for weaponry, though is not above using whatever’s around him to gain the advantage. He gives would-be opponents only one warning to back down, as Flint is not known for having compassion for his enemies or wanting to repeat himself.
  • Carpentry
When not dealing with livestock, Flint busies himself with woodworking projects, from a new fence to a smoke shack to a new porch or roof to tableware. He rather enjoys this hobby, and takes pride in his work (even if he acts modest). His skills lie more towards function and crafting larger things (building structures and furnishings vs. trinkets), and his smaller projects (ex. tableware) are typically simple in design and make, as his larger hands make adding intricate designs or crafting smaller goods difficult.
  • Horse & Cart
Through his years of growing up on a farm and attending stock trading yards, Flint has become familiar with using horses for pulling carts of goods. He knows how to hook them up, drive them, and general, basic horse care. He cannot ride a horse due to his size, and has never tried or expressed a desire to either.
  • Handyman
Being the “man” of the homestead, Flint often has to rely on his own ingenuity to fix and repair things. The work may not compare to an expert in a given field, but, it typically works well enough until Flint can find a properly skilled individual (or, he simply makes do).
  • Trade
Flint is noted as being hard to trade with, but, is a fair trader. He knows what his goods are worth, and cannot be swindled into paying less. Flint is the type that, if you’re willing to waste your breath on selling him an obviously bad deal, he will let you talk and string you along, only to tell you “no” in the end.
