Tiamat and her brother Lotan were born to Semini and Nikita Volkov in Krokar on a cold winter's morning in 2016. With the dissolution of her parents' mateship, Tiamat's childhood was fraught with tension and emotional hardship, especially with her mother. She would ultimately flee Krokar at a year old to look for her absent father, accompanied by the witch Laevisa Arena and Scarlett Arena.
Although she never did reach her father, Tiamat became a skilled fighter in her journeys, reunited with her brother, and found a family in her friendships. Ultimately she landed in Portland, where she began a family with Griffin Winsor. Her children, Landon Winsor, Rosemary Winsor, and Owen Winsor, were born in the late summer of 2020.
The following winter, Tiamat abruptly left her home and family behind. She launched an attack on Salsolan civilians, and was pursued on and off by O'Riley Eternity for the better part of the year. Their fighting culminated in a final stand, wherein Tiamat was brought close to death and subsequently rescued by her brother Lotan and friends Rahab de le Poer and Pazuzu Lykoi. She was returned to Portland in dire conditions, and is now recovering with the help of Griffin.
1. Personality
1.1 Overview
Summary
Following an anguished and confused childhood, Tiamat became a resolute woman willing to do what is necessary to create what she believes is a more just and humane world. Like iron, she can seem cold and intractable, but past her well-guarded front is a fiercely loyal and compassionate person. She will be the first to speak up or defend others, and never hesitates to do what she thinks is the morally "right" thing to do. Though Tiamat can be humorless when conflicts are ongoing, she is unshakable when plans go awry and rarely looses her cool under pressure. She can have a sharp tongue when it comes to problems and rarely will she withhold an opinion in such situations, however her preference is to act before speaking.
She lives a highly regimented lifestyle and can sometimes be uncompromising with others because of it. She seems to suffer no foolishness or meekness, and she expects others to be forthright with her as she is with them. It can be difficult to get Tiamat to change her mind once it's been made. In times of peace, she is more willing to lighten up and engage in less serious activities such as swimming, poetry, and reading the stars.
Traits
- Demeanor: Brave, determined, candid
- Speech: Her voice has a low, gentle pitch, something like this.
- Scent: Sea salt, forest, Griffin, various plant oils that are used to tame her unruly hair
- Quirks: Will occasionally tie back her long ears like her mother
- Outlook: Pragmatic
- Alignment: Chaotic Good / Lawful Evil
1.2 Detail
Interests
- Likes: Justice, family, fighting, poetry, stories, hunting
- Dislikes: Injustice, cults, Salsola, witches, anything exploitative/restricts freedoms of others
Biases
Tiamat fondly recalls Krokar and has an affinity for old members or anyone that reminds her of her home. She feels deep sympathy for the downtrodden, poor, sickly, infirm, and elderly, and will help anyone who seems to be in need. She is more skeptical of people who appear either privileged or wealthy, but will not refuse helping them if they ask it.
She has animosity for certain members of Erie and everyone in Salsola. She will aggress them without provocation if she learns of their allegiance..
Motivations & Fears
Tiamat desires to create a more just and humane world. Since she has the power to do so, she has made it her mission to fight for those who cannot. Her primary fear as a person is failing the ones who count on her.
Sexuality
Tiamat is heterosexual, although she can be attracted romantically to anyone regardless of gender/expression without a sexual element. Once settled on a partner, Tiamat is strictly monogamous and takes her commitments seriously.
Substances
Tiamat is a teetotaler. She does not drink anything other than water (or tea that she deems safe) and will not accept drugs if offered. She is paranoid about substances.
Spirituality
Due to extremely negative experiences with witches and their ilk in the past, Tiamat is suspicious of religious or spiritual individuals. She won't discount a person solely because of their beliefs, but she will avoid them if they've made it a core part of their identity or livelihood.

2. Appearance
2.1 Basics
Overview
Tiamat maintains her appearance more out of necessity than vanity, as her dense and curly fur coat makes a quick mess if left untouched. She carries herself with a calm, confident air that one might expect from a seasoned warrior.
A feature of note are her spaniel ears, signature of her Amaranthine blood. While ordinarily left down, she has taken in recent times to tying them back like her mother.
Accustomed to a nomadic lifestyle, Tiamat has learned to keep only what is useful and spare the rest. She has traded off most of her spoils of war from Bedaya, although she does have a few keepsakes.

Family Relationships
Parents
- Tiamat was at odds with her mother Semini for much of her young life. At an early age, she witnessed her mother's emotional breakdown following her breakup with her father and it impacted her deeply. This event drove Tiamat to look for guidance in other less trustworthy places. She always resented her mother for pushing her father out of her life, believing that he would be present more if not for her. After learning that Nikita moved on quickly from her half-brother, Tiamat abandoned her dreams of finding him. She still has a soft place in her heart for her father and would like to see him again, but she no longer idealizes his role in her life.
Siblings
- Lotan is her twin, the yin to her yang, and for the longest time he was the only person in the world she could trust. When they are together, they have a relaxed and teasing rapport, and she has an intuitive understanding of his moods (and vice versa). She regrets certain decisions that she made when she was young and hurting that led her to abandon him at times they needed each other. Yet even while they were separate, she felt as if he was with her.
Children
- Tiamat had complicated feelings for her children Mosie, Owen, and Landon, unwittingly due to postpartum depression. Feeling as if she'd failed them as a mother, she left suddenly late one night in the winter of 2020. Since then, she has come to regret her decisions, but she feels that she cannot redeem herself to them and struggled to return home. By the time she was brought back, her children were gone.
Calrian, Malik, Serafina
- Initially resentful of Calrian and Malik's existence because of their father, Tiamat eventually came to terms with her maternal half-siblings after finding them as adults. She thinks they got the raw end of the deal as well, maybe less than herself. She is not close to any of her younger siblings by any stretch of the imagination, but she found their company tolerable enough for that summer of 2021, when she and Lotan made camp by La Estrella Roja.

Description
Following her return from Erie, Tiamat settled into the ruins of a stone church. Most of the area has been reclaimed by the wilderness, providing ample shade during the summer months and plenty of seclusion from curious travelers. It is uphill from a small river and the field and stable of a local farmer, with whom she has an arrangement to keep her horse.
The structure lacks a roof but is otherwise sound. She has amended this herself by fastening wood and canvas taken from an old ship sail over the gaping ceiling. It remains drafty and needs constant maintenance, but her solution keeps the snow off during the winter. Additionally, the gaps allow the smoke from the fire to escape. Over the doorway and windows are a patchwork of deer and various animal pelts. Around the corner is a small overhang covering firewood, a chopping block, and a rope used to hang dressed kills.
The interior consists of a bed of pelts and packed hay (and when the season allows, flowers and soft grasses), a lop-sided wooden table, a stone hearth where a fire is kept going, and antler hangers from which various clothes, belts, and other accoutrements are stored. There are flowers growing from the walls, filling the home with a naturally perfumed air. A large patterned textile hangs over the back entrance, one of the few remaining keepsakes from Tiamat's time in Bedaya. The space itself is not very large, accommodating around four to five others, but the high "ceiling" makes it feel bigger.
Tiamat doesn't keep a tidy house and will leave her belongings scattered all around (much to Griffin's chagrin). Despite this, she never seems to lose anything and claims to "know where everything is."
Tiamat is the daughter of Semini Amaranthe and Nikita Volkov and was raised along with her brother Lotan in Krokar until they were a year old. After discovering her mother's affair with Lokr Revlis, she left home in pursuit of her absent father. She was accompanied by her mentor, the mysterious Laevisa Arena and her supposedly immortal companion, Mafdet.
It was on her voyage across the Atlantic that she first encountered Griffin Winsor and his nefarious father Declan, the captain of the ship. She assisted Griffin in organizing a mutiny, and was then betrayed herself by the new captain. Upon landfall, Tiamat fled into the deserts of Bedaya at the urging of her mentor, who had once made a home of the tribes (unbeknownst to Tiamat, however, Laevisa had been exiled).
She was quickly embroiled in the Arena-Bedaya war, joining the side of the tribes of Bedaya. Together with Rahab de le Poer, Naji of the Shams Tribe and Tsolin Himaa, Tiamat helped turn the tides in favor of the Bedayans. Ultimately it was the arrival of her brother Lotan and his mentor, Pazuzu Lykoi that pushed them to victory.
They traced the origins of the conflict back to Onuba and infiltrated the city with the intent to bring the Arena family to justice. It was here that their ragtag group of mercenaries expanded, enlisting the help of Mateo Salcedo and Griffin. Their coup was successful and the Arena family fell, launching Onuba into a period of discord and peace thereafter. Tiamat and company did not stay to see the aftermath. They made a quick getaway on the ship of Rahab's mothers, Mara Savoy and Agrippa de le Poer.
Tiamat returned to Nova Scotia in late 2018 with the intention of righting wrongs and settling old debts. She discovered that Krokar had mysteriously fallen and with her mother nowhere to be found, she returned to Portland. She then accompanied a trading envoy consisting of Rahab, Lotan, Pazuzu, Jethro Lykoi, and Rahab's uncle Marlowe de le Poer to Erie. This mission concluded with disastrous consequences. Despite this, they are able to escape and make their way back to Portland.
While settled in the outskirts of the trading port, Tiamat began investigating crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice. She became mates with Griffin Winsor and they had three children together: Owen, Mosie, and Landon. In the early months of 2021, Tiamat returned to Nova Scotia alone.
