Maddison Adler

by Nat

Maddison 'Mad Dog' Adler is a Texas born blacksmith, learning the trade from her family as well as those she met on her travels, seeking out the means of becoming a master smithy. Her tough attitude has kept her going throughout, but wasn't able to protect Maddie from capture, her skill set gaining the attention of those wishing to exploit it.

Forced to work whilst captured, Maddie was just as relieved as the other slaves when Casa di Cavalieri rescued them and granted them all a new home, something that brought even more opportunity to Maddie when she discovered how much the pack would benefit from a smithy like her.

However, having worked most of her adult life, she is not quite sure who 'she' is when removed from the smithy. This unrefined nature sometimes have Maddie come off as more gruff and harsh than she really is.

  • Can be a bit rude and stubborn, but it is clear that she just wants to help and feel useful.
  • Has a strong bond to the other ex-captives, though this seems to be motivated by guilt.

1.  Appearance

  • Maddie's buff and muscle toned petite body is riddled with spots, some large and some small, and some that blend together into a patch. Her ears form rounded triangles that flop to the side, if alert they raise slightly but far from pointy ears that a lot of other canines have equipped. If she wags her tail hard enough, it acts as a whip and can easily knock on a door with it. It is thin and comes to a point. Her one eye is a milky chocolate brown, and small spots around her eye give the impression of heavy eyeliner. While her other eye is usually covered with a patch, if one catches a glimpse it is damaged and completely clouded white. Scars from burns accompany her bad eye and trail slightly down her muzzle. The Mad Dog keeps her hair trimmed in a black and white fauxhawk, short on the sides and long enough up top to braid and keep out of the way while working, never growing longer than between her stern jawline and shoulders. When bored, she may dye the front white strip a different colour. Maddie is thin and petite, but her muscles are well defined from hours spent at the anvil and forge. She has a large barrel chest, and thin waist.
Optime: 5 ft 8 in (173 cm) ↔ 150 lbs (68 kg)
  • Scars:

  • Tattoos & Piercings:
    • None

Clothing & Accessories

  • Humanization: High
  • Clothing & Accessories: Maddie is usually dressed in low riding leather pants with extra padding on the front of the thighs to help protect against embers and burning hot tools that may come in contact. A belt holds her pants in place and is also equipped with a sheath for her trusty knife, always sharpened and ready to slice and dice. While working she wears a thick apron with pockets that hold her necessary tools and odds and ends, but on the rare occasion of seeing her outside of the forge, Maddie sports an open leather vest. From her neck usually hangs a bandana and some dog tags.

Interaction

  • Speech: Deep and gruff, a bit of a Texas accent.
  • Scent: Metal, smoke, charcoal
  • Quirks, Gestures, Etc.: Folds her arms when not holding tools, keeps her head turned to show her good eye more.
  • General Posture and Body Language: Upright and stiff, pretty closed-off.

2.  History

Maddison Adler, who later became known as Maddie "Mad Dog" Adler, was born to a family of blacksmith tradesmen in western Texas. People would come from far and wide for the finest horseshoes, weaponry and armour available at Adler's Fire and Anvil; if it could be dreamt, it could be created at the family forge.

From the time pups shifted, a hammer and chisel were placed in their hands, and they learned the basics of blacksmithing. The days started early, and ended late and if they weren't exhausted and sore from a day's work, it was said they weren't doing it right. Maddie grew up in this same upbringing, but unlike some of her littermates that weren't as keen to the work her family did, she enjoyed every minute. She always strived to learn more, and eventually began to brainstorm her own ideas and inventions to help the family business.

One evening, while forging one of her creations, an accident happened that left her scarred and blind in one eye. For some that may push them away from the job, but Maddie was too stubborn to give up on her passion, and was back at the forge the next day, working through the pain. She now wears an eyepatch to cover her eye, and she thinks it just adds character and doesn't give a damn, what others think.

When the dalmatian mix learned all she could, she left home in search of more knowledge, seeking out the best in the business. She sought out blacksmiths from all over, travelling between the coasts, eventually finding someone interested in hiring her for her skills. This 'job' however wasn't one Maddie has a choice in, as ropes were bound to her hands and she was quickly forced to work in order to survive. Such work included the crafting of brands, then used on Maddie herself and others captured in a similar manner, all branded with the intention of being passed on to a new owner. Disgusted by what she'd been forced to do and hopeless for her future, being rescued and brought into a pack has sparked Maddie's drive to continue following her dream.

3.  Personality

  • Outlook: Realistic
  • Sociability: Introverted
  • Expression: Dominant
  • Alignment: Neutral Good

FOCUSED, CARING, CLOSED-OFF

  • In short, Maddie is a work-a-holic, something that was ingrained in her since she was a young pup. More often than not you will find her bent over an anvil rather than relaxing by a fire or watching the water lap at the shore. She is truly happiest in her element, and may seem a little awkward in social situations, standing awkwardly in the corner unsure of how to make small talk. Though if you manage to get her to open up and talk about her work, she lights up and will talk to you in the wee hours of the morning.

Under all the grime, muscle and awkwardness lies a heart that just wants to help those that need help and to provide them with the tools to protect themselves. Her way of fighting the good fight, and defeating the darkness that tries to envelope the world around her.

  • Likes: Working, crafting, helping, learning
  • Dislikes: Slavery, too much talking, the smell of burning

4.  Skills

  • Blacksmith (Expert)
Her drive in life has been working next to a forge. From the moment Maddie could hold tools, she had been taught to use them, pushing herself day by day to improve upon her skills. When she'd learnt all she could from her parents, Maddie chose to seek knowledge from others also driving down the path of the smithy, combining all of it in her own work. Despite being skilled in only a single craft, Maddison takes pride in her specialisation and the work she can do, often trying to test her limits to see what kind of new things she can make with metal.
