OOC Information

Assumptions

  • Others may find Goose's or her mother's scent around the Ethereal Eclipse area; they will flee if approached.
  • Likewise, others may discover Goose's hoards in shallow holes or tree trunks; these items are classified as junk (i.e. warped/broken human artifacts such as plastic, dirty fabric, etc. or low quality Luperci goods). The objects may be freely looted.

Plot Opportunities

  • Goose lives a traditional feral lifestyle and loves company despite her mother's protests—come romp around with her and have some good old fashion fun!
  • Goose holds a deep fascination with crafted items. Show her how a do-dad works or be a victim to some petty thievery as she steals your trash.

Introduction

Goose is a wandering loner in the Ethereal Eclipse area. Born in the spring of 2020, she and her mother endured self-made isolation due to their tentative status as non-shifters; a burgeoning distrust in Luperci and a lack of like-minded individuals, living as their ancestors did, made them alone in an alienating world. However, a young Goose found the strangeness fascinating, and developed an interest in human artefacts and Luperci craftsmanship. While growing up in relative safety—though it was not without difficulty, lacking the stability of a pack—she became something of a collector, encouraged by her curiosity.

However, after a series of earthquakes in late 2022, Goose's life shifted. After the lost of her homeland and sustaining a foot injury, Crow became despondent and Goose was thrust into the role of a caretaker.

Characteristics

Appearance

Physical
  • Description:
Goose is a dog-coyote mutt with curly blue merle fur. Her dog heritage is the most prominent at a glance. Her feathery fur, curled tail, and white collar harkens her collie blood. Her build and overall shape reflects her coyote heritage: her legs are thin and willowy, and her ears are elongated and seem too large for her head. She is monochromatic, made up of black, grey, and white colors. Her face and tail have solid markings while her body has a blue merle pattern: a gray base splotched with black patches. Her right hind paw is distinctively white.
She is often sporting leafy debris and muddy paws. While her fur would theoretically be soft, it's wild and untamed, giving her a perpetually harried look.
  • Build and Preferences:
Goose is smaller in height when compared to a grey wolf. Her lean legs give her the first impression of a dainty appearance. However, her broad, compacted trunk suggests a body built for stamina similar to that of herding breeds. While she has hardened muscles from hunting and running, she has no accumulated bulk, and could be considered elfish and waife. She is underweight due to her loner lifestyle, though her thick fur obscures this.
Due to the fact that she is non-Luperci, she does not have a Secui or Optime form.

Personality

Adventurous • Playful • Impatient • Naive

Goose is a friendly and cheerful woman. While she can be very skittish around strangers (especially those that take on their Optime forms), she takes to socialization easily and shows interest in others if they are not threatening. While likes to think of herself as careful, her optimism and sense of daring can cloud her judgement with rose-tinted glasses. She carries herself confidently and is very open about her thoughts and emotions—to the point that the heart on her sleeve can come off as blunt and tactless at times. However, her intentions are usually kind (or lest she'd express otherwise) and does not look to offend or domineer over others. She prefers to keep things lighthearted and simple, though she is deceptively intuitive and perceptive of others.

Goose is inquisitive about things that she find odd or eludes her understanding, and often feels compelled by the strange. Curiosity is a great motivator for her and pushes her to defy others that she otherwise respects. She purposefully toes lines and boundaries, and though she is quick to back away when it gets dangerous, her nosiness is not discouraged even if she gets caught by consequences. Goose has not faced much hardship outside of natural forces and a strict mother, and her lack of experience gives her a sense of innocence and emboldens her. Despite her keen instinct, she may go against her better judgement and take a risk to satisfy her curiosity or gain an enriching experience.

Goose is more of a follower than a leader, but she often resents this. She often struggles with feelings of repression and helplessness, as if she does not lead her own life. This causes her to be rather possessive of the aspects that she does have control over; materialistic, she is fiercely defensive of her belongings and relationships. Goose desires a fulfilled and exciting life, but companionship and a sense of belonging as well—this conflict is only deepened by insecurity instilled at a young age. While she does not want to live in fear, she does not want to get hurt either, and can shy away from difficult decisions.

  • Motivations: Freedom, survival, discovery, knowledge
  • Fears: Violence, blades, natural disasters, horses
Biases

Goose is wary of Luperci that are highly humanized (i.e. clothed, own animals, use weapons, etc.).

Sexuality

Goose is very affectionate and desires a romantic relationship in spite of her inexperience. However, she shies away quickly from the suggestion of physical intimacy; fearmongering by her hawkish mother dissuades her from entertaining the idea.

Spirituality

Goose has no hard-defined beliefs; she has a vague sense of animism, attributing emotion and thought to everything, as a way to explain phenomena around her.

Substances

Goose does not partake in any substances. She is aware of the existence of alcohol and the negative affects they have on Luperci, and does not understand why others would participate in "mind-meddling."

History

PRELUDE
Loner
Duration: April 2020 – February 2023

Goose was born in the spring of 2020 as the sole surviving child in Crow's litter; having experienced a harsh winter, Crow was weak and malnourished, and the pregnancy was difficult. Goose's father was absent since her birth and she knew nothing of him. The only detail that was revealed later in life was that he was a non-shifting coyote, most likely chosen out of convenience rather than affection. The reason for his leave when a joint partnership would better ensure the survival of their children, or even his name, was never disclosed by Crow. With no father or pack to lay claim to, Goose grew up in intense isolation on the Wabanaki Coast.

A distinct lack of canines that shared Crow's traditional lifestyle, of living off of the earth and upholding the ways of their wild ancestors, led them to avoid the packs in the area. Crow's distrust of Luperci—their changing bodies, their disposition towards domination and violence—was the primary reason for the pair's quarantine. However, her mother's avoidance of answering questions made Goose all the more curious about the world that they lived in. When left alone in various earthen holes while Crow hunted for them, Goose had her imagination for company. She developed a fascination for human ruins and explored abandoned cabins and campsites, pilfering them of discarded rubbish. While she had no use for them, she enjoyed "discovering" something that was uniquely hers—or at least, something outside of her mother's sphere. even if Crow showed disapproval, the interest remained. Eventually Goose amassed small hoards pocketed around the coastline, though they were often ransacked in turn.

As Goose matured into adulthood, she remained with Crow in their small band of two, both out of survival and comfort. Her scavenging continued and became bolder, and she began to steal from unwary Luperci. One such attempted theft of a wooden ladle led to Goose nearly being trampled by a horse on a Luperci's command, which deterred her from collecting for a short time and opened her eyes to what Luperci are capable of.

Life was largely uneventful for the first few years of Goose's life. In the fall of 2022, a series of earthquakes disturbed the pair of non-shifters. The ocean water turning hot frightened Crow and she insisted that the pair return to the place of her birth after the earth settled and weather cleared. However, after crossing the Bay of Fundy over the changed landbridge, they discovered that the hills of Crow's childhood were gone. Shortly after, Crow sustained a forepaw injury after getting her foot caught in a Luperci snare. On edge and dealing with unfamiliar grief, Goose struggled with being the caretaker of her depressed mother.
