The daughter of Silvano Sadira and Shiloh Dawnbringer, she and her twin sister Serena Marino were born and raised in Cour des Miracles. Unlike her older siblings, who were born when their parents were in different packs, she was raised in a properly nuclear family unit with the aid of older siblings and half-siblings.
The Winter of Tarnished Gold marked the end of Gaia's happy childhood. Her father's usurpation and the brutal attacks on her family shocked Gaia to her core. The death of her mother in particular was a terrible loss. When talk of rebellion began to stir among loyalists, Gaia was among those to rally around Kalypso Savoy -- whose true identity would not become apparent until after the conclusion of the Court's terrible winter. After the passing of their father, Gaia was left with unresolved conflict.
Angry and unsure of her place in the world, Gaia departed for the Court's trading post. She traveled for a time but ultimately returned to Wolfe's Neck Woods, where she lived with her family. When her elder brother Pascal Sadira departed for their old kingdom, Gaia set out to follow him. After becoming lost in Gaspesia during a patch of difficult to navigate fog, she was offered sanctuary by members of New Caledonia.
Much to her chagrin the remnants of the Court -- including her siblings -- were soon to be found. After coming to terms with the true end of her native kingdom, Gaia made the decision to swear allegiance to another crown and joined New Caledonia.
Origin: In Greek mythology Gaia was the mother goddess who presided over the earth. She was the mate of Uranus and the mother of the Titans and the Cyclopes. Dawnrunner is an ancestral family name from the Solbjorg Valley.

Gaia is an extrovert through and through – the word gregarious might best suit her. She belongs with people and thrives in a group, especially one where her feelings and thoughts are heard. With high energy and a warm personality, Gaia always makes attempts to charm new associates and avoid conflict when able. Though she is open to new ideas and beliefs, she is dismissive of those which don't align with her personal values. She is highly family oriented.
Though her childhood was largely stable, the abrupt end to this deeply affected Gaia. She carries a lot of grief with her and has not always handled it properly. Vices like drinking and drugs have shown Gaia can become very impulsive – sometimes to dangerous levels.

Parents: For most of her early life, Gaia believed that her parents were perfect. She idolized her mother and sought to emulate her despite very much taking after her father. Shiloh's death nearly destroyed Gaia, though she was able to endure thanks to familial support. Her father's undoing would come at the end of this conflict, when his (further) infidelity was revealed. Shocked by this, Gaia distanced herself – and when Silavano's mind began to leave him, she was left equally scared and confused. After his death, she was left with unresolved feelings.
Siblings: Gaia's closest sibling is her twin Serena Marino. They share many qualities but differ in others. Gaia is fiercely loyal to her sister, though she and Serena grew apart while living in Portland. Her eldest sister, Abigail Sadira is respected by Gaia. She often feels like she needs to "measure up" to her sister. Likewise, her eldest brother Alessan Stormbringer have a good relationship -- he has defended her from harm more than once, and they were drinking buddies. Elder sister Thyri Dawnbringer was another woman who Gaia looked up to, seeing much of their mother in Thyri. Her death was a severe blow to Gaia.
Half-Siblings: By all accounts Pascal Sadira is her favorite half-brother. Gaia had a friendly, if distant relationship with Eugene during her time in Portland. She has never met Leander. It is her half-sister Kalypso Savoy with whom Gaia has the most complicated relationship -- they bounce between warm and cold, and Gaia will sometimes become unusually hostile around Kaly.

Dove Reverie was one of Gaia's best friends. When they came across strange flora along the coastal shores, they became intoxicated by the plants - and Dove [M]fell to her death. Witnessing this deeply affected Gaia.
Cassidy Dallas joined Cour des Miracles briefly. During her time there, she helped teach Gaia how to ride horses. Her sudden departure in the wake of The Winter of Tarnished Gold did not go unnoticed by Gaia, but became secondary to the greater conflict. When they later ran into one another again, sparks flew. They traveled together but did not part under the best of circumstances.
Roxy Blackrust and Gaia had a friendly relationship and often partied together.
Étienne Lykoi was her first boyfriend. A sailor from Barbados, the two had a whirlwind romance while his ship was docked in Portland. Their breakup was difficult for Gaia, who feels slighted by his rejection to stay with her.
Friendly and charismatic, Gaia is always eager to find new treasures and share her own.
