3.  Personality

This character is a natural philosopher, both in the sense of their study of beliefs and how they look at the world with a scientific mind. Rational but morally steadfast, they constantly question the inner workings of life and the universe. They are likely to pursue an education or be a self-taught scholar, and are constantly hungry for knowledge. They have an open mind and an open heart, and are willing to hear and be the voice of reason. They don't see themselves as a leader, but happily give guidance to others for the greater good. They are very likely to have few - if any - biases toward gender, sexuality, or species and their intelligence or role in society.

This character, if they had a D&D alignment, would be Lawful Good (leaning toward Neutral Good). From to least importantly, they believe that they:

  • Shall not lie, for wickedness takes root in a false tongue
  • Shall not steal, for what might be stolen is necessary to the survival of another
  • Shall help the needy, though it's understandable if one has to have enough for themselves first before they can provide for others
  • Shall bring criminals and evil-doers to justice, though sometimes lack of resources or fair judgment means justice can be delayed or missed
  • Shall not harm the innocent, because what counts as "innocent" can very greatly from situation to situation, and what counts as "harmful" to some might not be harmful to others

In regards to their alignment and their behavior, they are, from most to least likely, to:

  • Respect the authority figures in his family and obeys their mandates, for their family instilled in them the moral code they have today
  • Consider public service in a leadership role an honor, as true leaders are, in their opinion, not common in this world
  • Believes everyone should be treated fairly and kindly, for what is put out into the world can return to you threefold
  • Not concerned with politics, though circumstances that throw or force them into a long-term leadership role could easily change this
  • To take risks if the benefits are great, though the character is cautious and is quick to recognize and renege on dangerous, deadly and/or impractical situations

4.  Talents and Faults

To help flesh out a potential path for this character, a selection of randomized strengths and weaknesses has been made using Joe Larsen's Character Faults and Talents system. These are only suggestions for this character, and you are free to use, retcon, modify, or disregard these ideas as you please.

Talents:

  • Good Manners: This character is nothing if not civil. Always polite and considerate, they're fast to pick up on the taboos of other cultures. They have a good memory for titles and forms of address, and take note to offer gifts or tithes when necessary. Any insult they direct at another is unintentional, and they're more than happy to teach etiquette to others.
  • Strong Hands and Wrists: This character has strong, flexible hands and wrists. They are very dexterous and pick up fine motor skills easily. Threading needles, working with delicate materials, and picking apart small pieces are not a problem for this character. In addition to this, they have a good grip, hardy paws and sharp, sturdy claws, meaning that digging and physical labor doesn't wear out their hands as much. Finally, when a character locks their wrists and has a hold of/has grappled something, their grip is stronger than usual.

Faults:

  • Bloody Nose: This character frequently gets nosebleeds. Whether it's because of dry air, allergies or some sort of health issue, their nostrils may suddenly start to bleed. Not only is this startling and aesthetically unpleasing, it may interfere with their sense of smell or make them easier to track. If a nosebleed occurs, it should take one to three posts to cease, depending on the severity.
  • Dark Secret: Something terrible has left a stain on this character's past. If this secret was found out, the character would be shunned or at least judged harshly. They may be related to a ruthless villain or ne'er-do-well, or perhaps have a sordid and criminal past of their own. They may have witnessed a terrible event and did nothing, or past cowardice may have resulted in harm to someone important. Whatever the secret is, it's earth-shaking enough that the character may do anything to keep it hidden.
  • Short Term Memory Difficulties: This character has issues with their short-term memory. Unless someone repeats instructions to them or the character writes something down, they will quickly forget things they are told. They can get around this through repetition and reminders, but new information will throw them off.

5.  Relationships

This character would've grown up in a small family. They would probably been an only child, or were part of a small litter. Their kin would have grown up in an isolated area, coming across other Luperci and/or canines only rarely. They may have had to survive on their own a lot, or had a parent that was often away or traveling. Despite this, the grandparents from one side of the family would've often visited or checked on them, or perhaps played a role in helping raise them. They may have had few romantic or physical relationships in their life, or perhaps have never had a partner at all. Alternatively, they've been part of a long-term monogamous or polyamorous relationship that only recently ended.

There are a number of open territories you can use as a place of origin for this character, or create backstory and ties to. Good examples for this particular character include Alexandria, Algiers, Cairo and Jeddah. The on-board settlement of Freetown may also be a good option.
