1.  Possible Character Names

This is, by no means, an exhaustive list. They're simply ideas for an adopter to look at if they can't think of a name they like for this character.

Male:

  • Bora: A Turkish name derived from the Greek name Boreas and meaning "squall" or "storm".
  • Ghayth: An Arabic name meaning "rain".
  • Nephos: A Greek word meaning "cloud". The name of the mother of the centaurs in Greek legend was derived from this word.

Female:

  • Audra: A Lithuanian name meaning "storm".
  • Damla: A Turkish name meaning "water drop".
  • Sorghaghtani: A Mongolian name meaning "pox-girl", this was a daughter-in-law of Genghis Khan.

Gender-Neutral:

  • Ciel: A French word meaning "sky" that is used for both genders, but not usually in France itself.
  • Göksu: A Turkish name roughly meaning "sky-water".
  • Yağmur: A Turkish name meaning "rain".

3.  Personality

Flighty, freedom-loving, and cursed with a short attention span, this character flits from partner to partner and place to place like a hummingbird. They are unbidden to others and curious about the world, and try to surround themselves with people as fascinating and like-minded as they feel they are. They are a bit of a charmer, but rarely spend enough time with anyone or staying anywhere to make meaningful relationships last. Unconventional, they like to discover new ways of doing things, and those who show them new things and ways of living have their attention the most. Of course, this character is also needy and a bit selfish, and might find themselves trying to prove themselves or steal the thunder of those around them when they feel insecure or bored.

This character, if they had a D&D alignment, would be Chaotic Neutral. From most to least importantly, they believe that they:

  • Shall not murder, because going around randomly killing people is wrong in every way
  • Shall promote unlimited freedom for themselves, for they answer to no one but themselves
  • Shall honor no authority above themselves, for they are their own ruler first and foremost
  • Shall pursue pleasure, but not to the point that others come to harm because of it
  • Shall break the law whenever convenient, but not to the point where innocents are harmed or murder ensues

In regards to their behavior and their alignment, they will, from most to least likely:

  • Support their nation when profitable, but not support them if unprofitable
  • Find most people inflexible and close-minded, and unable to understand the character's philosophy or motivations
  • Values flexible relationships with friends and romantic partners, and will feel stifled if the other party feels otherwise
  • Consider themselves above the law, but is willing to work within certain rules if profitable and/or to avoid harming innocents
  • Break any contract when they feel like it, but will find it distasteful and try to avoid making contracts in the first place

4.  Talents and Faults

To help flesh out a potential path for this character, a selection of randomized strengths and weaknesses has been made using Joe Larsen's Character Faults and Talents system. These are only suggestions for this character, and you are free to use, retcon, modify, or disregard these ideas as you please.

Talents:

  • Friendly: This character is naturally amicable. People find them easy to get along with, and they are warm and welcoming to most folks. People want to be around this character, and those seeking friends or allies may keep this character around because of how grounding they are. They may not be a natural charmer or silver-tongued salesman, but they certainly are likeable.
  • Pain Resistance: This character has a high pain tolerance. They're able to shrug off minor injuries and can push through the pain and strain of physical activity well. They have a lower risk of going into shock from pain when it comes to more serious injuries, and may be able to stay conscious in the face of overwhelming agony. Unfortunately this gift is a double-edged sword - they may not notice injuries such as snakebites or poisonous stings until later inspection or prompts from another.
  • Storyteller: This character knows how to spin a tale. They can keep their audience enraptured with whatever story they tell, never running out of interesting things to say. They have a knack for remembering stories and oral history, and can weave their own stories on a whim. They have a wild imagination and can come up with all sorts of fantastic things to tell.

Faults:

  • Anti-Luperci Prejudice: Even if this character is a non-Luperci themselves, they have a prejudice against anyone who isn't a Luperci. They may consider non-Luperci dirty or uncivilized, or somehow cursed or lacking in some way. They may feel like non-Luperci can never be as strong or smart as regular Luperci, and that Luperci are inherently superior to their unchanged counterparts.
  • Klutz: This character is clumsy. They have a difficult time keeping their balance and may be prone to sea-sickness or other forms of travel-sickness. They easily fall and trip, and trying to catch things or react quickly is difficult. If they were to navigate treacherous terrain, they might easily get stuck or find themselves in a tough spot to maneuver out of. Attempts to perform acrobatic maneuvers like flips, jumps and tumbles will surely end in disaster.
  • Short Term Memory Difficulties: This character has issues with their short-term memory. Unless someone repeats instructions to them or the character writes something down, they will quickly forget things they are told. They can get around this through repetition and reminders, but new information will throw them off.

5.  Relationships

This character's parents were loving and doting, with one parent prone to spoiling them and giving them a bit too much attention. They probably could've had more of a leash as a child, and their antics and brattier tendencies have estranged them from other members of their family. They've had a number of acquaintances over their life time, possibly forming friendships and romantic relationships with some of them (no matter how fleeting they might be). Their adventurous life means that they've mixed and mingled with all sorts of important and unimportant people, and it's more than likely they have a few enemies or people they consider "the one that got away". They also may have been kicked or chased out of certain places for being too callous with people they know, and this has likely driven some of their maturing or character growth.

There are a number of open territories you can use as a place of origin for this character, or create backstory and ties to. Good examples for this particular character include Athens, Istanbul, Rome, or Warsaw. The on-board settlement of Freetown may also be a good option.
