Dale's Adoptable #15

This character is open to adoption under a Relaxed Permanent Contract. You have free reign to choose, edit and modify any of the traits listed here, or even the design of the character itself. Once you claim the character as yours, it's yours, and you are free to put them up for adoption to someone else at any time. If not, you may drop, kill them off, or NPC them as you please. All I ask for is a vague outline of what you plan to do with this character so I can pick a good first fit.

This adoptable currently has no design. Instead, a "placeholder" or "possible face claim" has been provided for inspiration, but you are free to keep it if you wish. You are free to adopt solely the template provided here and instead slot in a character design of your own or adopted from another. The image was sourced from Pexels.

If interested, please contact Dale via PM on their OOC Dale account.

1.  Possible Character Names

This is, by no means, an exhaustive list. They're simply ideas for an adopter to look at if they can't think of a name they like for this character.

Male:

  • Irniq: An Inuit name meaning "son", found using an Inuit name generator.
  • Naomhán: An Irish and Scottish name that means "little saint".
  • Yefim: A Greek-derived Russian name that means "to use words of good omen".

Female:

  • Buniq: An Inuit name meaning "sweet daughter", found using an Inuit name generator.
  • Tiilaqiia: An Inuit name meaning "beautiful plant", found using an Inuit name generator.
  • Vasilisa: Feminine Russian form of Basil, an English name derived from Greek meaning "king".

Gender-Neutral:

  • Aippaq: An Inuit name meaning "companion", found using an Inuit name generator.
  • Skirling: The name of a northern mountain pass in G.R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire saga. It received its name from the howling sound the pass makes when winds blow through it.
  • Tungortok: An Inuit name meaning "blue", found using an Inuit name generator.

3.  Personality

This character is a social butterfly, a charismatic mixer and mingler. They love their neighbor and their family, too, and see all the potential in them and the rest of the world. They often find themselves in the role of helper, enabler or pedagogue, and seek only the best for others and their community at large. Very rarely is anything done maliciously, with most of their mistakes either born of naivety or the sheer desire to help. They are organized and efficient, and easily switch back and forth between their work and tending to the needs of others. Sometimes they overwork or overtax themselves trying to give every problem they come across their undivided attention and acknowledgement.

This character, if they had a D&D alignment, would be Neutral Good. From most to least importantly, they believe that they:

  • Shall seek unlimited good for others, simply because others deserve to live with as much good in their life as possible
  • Shall help the needy, as they wouldn't be needy if they didn't need help
  • Shall honor those who promote goodness, as they are an example to live by
  • Shall follow the law unless law-breaking results in more good, but this is risky as breaking laws can do more harm than good
  • Shall bring evil-doers to justice, but this is a role better-suited for those who know the law and have the resources to wield it better

In regards to their behavior and their alignment, they will, from most to least likely:

  • Believe everyone should be treated kindly and fairly on principle
  • Will take actions during crises to help others (even if unprofitable), as it's simply the right thing to do
  • Feel guilty when they commit a wrongdoing, and will actively seek to make restitution to the wronged party
  • Not seek a position of authority over others, but will step into the role if absolutely necessary
  • Provide for friends and seek to be repaid, but often will ask for a favor or "forget" about what is owed instead

4.  Talents and Faults

To help flesh out a potential path for this character, a selection of randomized strengths and weaknesses has been made using Joe Larsen's Character Faults and Talents system. These are only suggestions for this character, and you are free to use, retcon, modify, or disregard these ideas as you please.

Talents:

  • Long-Range Weapon Proficiency: This character, whether through natural talent or experience, is proficient in a type of long-ranged weapon. They know how to properly equip, wield, and take care of this weapon for maximum damage, weapon condition and efficiency. Pick one type of long-ranged weapon - such as a dart-gun, a sling, a bow, spears, etc. - for your character to specialize in.
  • Great Throwing Arm: This character has a good, strong throw and can easily catch items. Whether it's spears or a simple all, their tosses and pitches are hard and fast. They may put more power behind a throw than what they or other people believe they can.

Faults:

  • Bloody Nose: This character frequently gets nosebleeds. Whether it's because of dry air, allergies or some sort of health issue, their nostrils may suddenly start to bleed. Not only is this startling and aesthetically unpleasing, it may interfere with their sense of smell or make them easier to track. If a nosebleed occurs, it should take one to three posts to cease, depending on the severity.
  • Greedy: Despite this character's generous nature, they are full of wants. They want more food, they want more appreciation, and they want to live as comfortably as possible. In times of weakness, they will eat more than their fill, crave more attention than they need, and hoard what could be given away. They have never betrayed someone by acting on their greedy urges, but there have been times when they've been tempted to do so. They also have - despite being casual about their own repayment - sometimes borrow more than they need, with all the trouble that might entail.

5.  Relationships

This character was raised by their father and, by extension, the paternal side of their family (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, et al). Their mother is either estranged or not in their life at all - the character may have been born to a surrogate, witnessed a divorce in their early life, or some other distancing factor. They have always been taught to be kind and gentle, and likely were a mother- or sister-figure to a number of friends or other, younger relatives. They may have had many acquaintances and friends over their life, some of whom took advantage of the character's kindness and others who appreciated them deeply. Their sense of duty and the amount of energy they put into helping others likely means they haven't had time for relationships that are more than platonic.

There are a number of open territories you can use as a place of origin for this character, or create backstory and ties to. Good examples for this particular character include Moscow, Sonnerie, St. Petersburg, or Tuktoyaktuk. The on-board settlement of Freetown may also be a good option.
