Clyde Mal

Clyde was born to Cayuse, a small Luperci pack near central Montana that was quiet and peaceful during his adolescence. He was raised in a tribe like culture by down to earth and hardworking wolves, and later lived on the run with his mother and brother. He is currently a member of Cercatori d'Arte.

1.  Appearance

Of the three Mal siblings, Clyde stands out as the medium between his brother and sister. Despite coming from the same litter he has always had a bit of a middle child complex, something that he sees as much in his form as he projects in his personality. He is average in build, neither a light runner like Genova nor the tank that is Delmont. He liked to often remind the two that this made him stronger than one, faster than the other, and prettier than both. Clyde’s coat is also the middle ground of the three, a blend of Nova’s mostly white and Del’s mostly black. He is a wiry charcoal color across the top of his muzzle, back, and tail. The dark grey color spreads onto his muscular shoulders and ribcage, running to light grey as it reaches down his legs and to his underbelly. His short ears are also a dark charcoal grey on the back, lighter grey when viewed from the front.

More than once Clyde has been described as a pretty boy, usually by Clyde himself. He has symmetrical and clean facial features, leaving him with a fresh-faced and animated look. The wolf’s face is somewhat triangular with a broad expressive brow, boyish cheeks, and a short, square muzzle. The same dark grey that paints his back marks the brush stroke of his low set eyebrows, a feature that seems to only intensify his glinting dark blue eyes. His lips are black and usually curved in some flirtatious smile or split in outright, riotous laughter.

In Optime form, his preferred form, Clyde’s charcoal mane becomes an attractively disheveled mop of dark waves kept just short enough to keep out of his eyes. Of course the vain thing enjoys a humanized wardrobe. Clyde tends to favor tunic like shirts, fitting breeches, and a trusty, water resistant cloak with a hood to give him an edge of mystery with the ladies.

1.1  Coloration

Go go name that color!

  • Optime Hair: Cinder (#0E0E18)
  • Eyes: Gulf Blue (#050F5C).
  • Fur:
    • Base Ecru White (#F0EDDB).
    • Top of muzzle, back, and tail are Cinder (#0E0E18). This color extends over shoulders and down sides, growing lighter grey as it spreads downward, leaving his legs and belly mostly white.

Clyde mainly uses his Lupus form for traveling long distances and running trap lines.

His Secui form is mostly used for large game group hunts, something Clyde rarely participates in.

More humanized than either of his siblings, Clyde is most comfortable in Optime form. He prefers to socialize, work, hunt, and travel short distances in this form.

2.  Personality

Clyde is best described as the life of his own personal party. Where there is festivity, you can bet he’ll be the most celebratory gal at the ball, and where there’s no party, Clyde has a way of making his own. He’s a party crasher, but his charm and humor are usually enough to earn him a stay in the revelry. He can be rowdy, but usually pulls up short of outright destructive. Usually. Although he is mostly good-natured, the Mal hooligan is not above a brawl, especially when he’s been drinking. The majority of the time, however, he’s a joyful, sociable drunk, as well as a bit handsy with any pretty thing that will give him a second glance. Is his drinking problematic? For someone with no direction in life and no family left, no, not really. Not so long as the good laughs and company hold out.

In smaller groups or one on one, Clyde is able to dial back his one man celebration. He’s a bit less overwhelming, offering more grins and chuckles than booming laughter. When you need to lighten your day, he’s the wolf you want to run into, always ready with a new joke or a witty remark. Amicable and chaotic good, he fancies himself a Robin Hood type. Problem is he has a bit of a selfish streak, and whatever he pockets from some jerk at the bar usually ends up going right back into the party. Despite this selfish trait, he has a nurturing personality, often boosting esteems and highlighting the good in people. He knows no ugly women or useless men. If he could only get out of the way of his own booze filled, sex driven train wreck, Clyde would be a pretty standup guy, both capable and kind.

2.1  Demeanor

Charming, Lively, Sociable, Genial, Directionless, Vain

2.2  Ideals

Interests

  • Likes: Trapping, trading, reckless women, drinking and celebration
  • Dislikes: Responsibility, reminders of his family, killjoys, authority

Traits

Outgoing, well meaning but selfish, irresponsible, good humored, warm

  • Outlook: Optimistic
  • Expression: Extroverted, can balk at authority but knows when to save his ass and submit.
  • Alignment: Chaotic Good

Fears

  • Responsibility, dying alone, becoming completely dependent on alcohol

Motivations

  • Turning his life around and opening a fur trade, proving Delmont wrong on any given subject, sultry women

Biases

  • Gender: Clyde loves women, but sometime he can forget they are capable of defending themselves. More than a few tavern fights have ended poorly on account of him jumping to defend some she-wolf’s honor who clearly needed no defending.
  • Religion: Clyde finds overly religious wolves to be boring and judgmental after a couple have approached him about his lifestyle.

Sexuality

Clyde has only ever had heterosexual relationships. He loves not only the physical aspects of women, but the idea of them. That said, he has on occasion been flustered by particularly good looking men, something that unsettles his traditional views of masculinity.

Substances

Though he will not admit it, he is teetering on the edge of truly dependent alcoholism. He enjoys smoking when tobacco is available but does not feel the need to have it readily available at all times as with alcohol.

Spirituality

Less by thoughtful spirituality and more by way of a lazy mind for religion, Clyde is largely agnostic. He does not think about the afterlife very often, because he sure as hell isn’t ready to leave this party behind yet. When he does think of god or religion, it is often with a bitterness he has yet to explain to himself.

4.  Interaction

  • Speech: Whether boisterous and booming or soft and personable, Clyde speaks with an undeniably warm and lively tenor voice. Though he has interacted with more people than his siblings, Clyde has stubbornly retained much more of his western accent and vernacular than either of them.
  • Scent: The smells of his trade are usually most distinct in Clyde’s scent. He carries with him the smoke of fires used to tan hides, the rich fragrances of oils and salt used in the process, and the varied scents of furs. Beneath that runs the smell of the deep woods he haunts as he sets traps and checks lines. There is usually a drop of alcohol swirled in the male’s earthly scent.

4.3  Abilities

Strengths

  • Trapping (Journeyman): Since boyhood, Clyde has been more interested in tricking his prey than brutishly overpowering it. His traps vary from simple snares to elaborate puzzles mostly constructed as an entertaining challenge and frankly because he can. When he fell into life as a loner, they became even more useful, an energy inexpensive way to get food and trade materials. He has only rarely used his traps on others, mostly his siblings when they were children, but Clyde doesn’t doubt he could snare an adult Luperci.
  • Archery (Apprentice): When it comes to weapons, Clyde doesn’t have much interest in swords, axes, or spears. He is most comfortable with a bow. Even then he does not use it as much as one would think. Any fights he gets into are usually, bare-knuckle brawls that blow over as quickly as they flare up, and he prefers to get his meals with traps instead of arrows. He is a decent shot and knows basic upkeep on a bow, but there is definitely much room for improvement.
  • Fur Trade (Journeyman): Clyde started working with fur almost as young as he began fiddling with traps, making small gifts for his mother and grandmother. With his fondness for the finer things, he has since become a bit of an artisan with the luxurious material. He can make both durable clothes and fancy, beautiful cloaks, tough travel bags and lovely purses. What’s more, he knows how to get out of them what they’re worth. With equal parts skill and charm, Clyde is rarely dissatisfied with his trades. But he is young, and however good he is now, there is always room to improve before he will consider himself a businessman or a master.

Weaknesses

  • Alcohol: At this point in his life, Clyde is toeing a dangerous line between recreational abuse and dependency on the drink. He does not suffer the violent illness of a true withdrawing alcoholic when he goes without, but he certainly notices the craving in the form of anxiety, mild trembling, and insomnia. Unfortunately he is such a happy, fun, and functioning drunk, no one’s thought to help him yet.
  • A Pretty Face: A Pretty Face: Although he knows it is a despicable trait, Clyde can’t help but be suckered by the attention of someone beautiful. To him, the rewards far outweigh his downfall. There is something about the youth and symmetry of a pretty face that fries his logical brain. Though he’d never admit it, he has on rare occasion felt the same eager attention for males.

4.4  Inventory

Trade

  • Offering: Fur products of various stages of completion. Clyde offers everything from rawhide to loose leathers and straps to fine clothing and accessories. Since recently moving to Thornbury, Clyde is still building his stores, but still has a variety of wares and can be commissioned.
  • Accepting: Alcohol, tobacco, tools of the fur trade, salt, oils, threads and cloth, ect.

Items of Interest

  • Clyde keeps a small book of poetry despite being able to read very little. Its sole purpose is to protect a pressed Bitterroot blossom from his home valley. They were his sister’s favorite flower.

6.  History

Clyde was born into a small, close knit pack in what was known as Cayuse Valley, Montana. Pack relations were good, his parents were young and active, and he had a fairly average childhood in the company of his two littermates, Delmont and Genova. Nothing extraordinary happened until he was around ten months of age and the pack leader fell ill. When word got out, an aggressive male, Myron, and a group of his supporters came down on the valley, challenging for rights to the territory. Those who Myron found submissive enough were allowed to stay. Many were ejected from their home. When Clyde’s father fought for the right for his family to stay, he was slaughtered and threats were made against his sons. Fearing for her boys’ lives, Clyde’s mother took them on the run. Genova, who had been injured and could not travel, was left in the care of the pack healer and family friend.

The winter was harsh on the little family. They had never faced life without the support of their pack, and while Clyde’s mother did everything possible to provide for her sons, she fell ill and passed away before spring. For the following spring and summer, Clyde and Delmont traveled together, but without their parents or Genova to temper their adolescent aggression, the boys soon split ways. Clyde continued his travels, filling his days with whiskey, women, and a little pick pocketing to keep him afloat until he found himself in ‘Souls territory.
