Cleome Valentine

Cleome Valentine (cl-EE- oh -me VAH- len -tyne) is the son of Velveteen Silevue and Dirge Valentine, born 3 December 2015 in the French-speaking sub-territories of the Toronto region in Canada alongside his three siblings: Lace Valentine, Dahlia Valentine, and Toile Silevue.

The young Valentine man is tall and willowy, built with elegance and grace. He often accents his striking magenta eyes with whatever matching accessories can be found - Though he has a preference for wildflowers of any kind. Although effeminate in appearance and oftentimes a bit of a milksop in nature, Cleome is very clever, and will use his intelligence to his advantage.

Born into the powerful Silevue family, Cleome grew up in Ame Rouge with his parents, siblings and extended family. In a culture rife with gang wars and superstition, voluptuous arcane women and tough, masochistic men the boy was an enigma; Gentle and kind, with an appetite only for the sweet things in the world. Upon coming of age, Cleome and Lace left an increasingly crowded Ame Rouge to follow in the footsteps of their elder siblings - Hyacinth Silevue, Brocade Valentine, Calla Valentine, and Weaver Valentine - hoping to discover their path in life.

Not too long after they joined at the Salsola Outpost in Portland, the siblings soon managed to impress some of the Salsolan merchants there enough to warrant passage to the Thistle Kingdom itself. Cleome took to their new home with great enthusiasm, trying to cultivate new connections inside and outside of the Kingdom, and in one such attempt, managed to befriend Trident Collins and in time, the two of them entered a relationship. During an excursion to Freetown with Lithia Napier, the two Salsolans managed to swindle a merchant. When the man sought retribution for the sour deal, Lithia killed the man and Cleome found he had a slave. Taking the woman back with them and their other stolen goods, the Valentine named the silent woman Amalthea and tried to teach her how to tend to the housekeeping while nurturing her from her catatonia and trauma. However, with his focus split between his weakened slave and his turbulent boyfriend, his social climb stagnated. In an attempt to try some new airs and to escape the social embarrassment, Cleome and Trident moved to Portland and settled in the Salsolan Outpost.

The move did not better his situation as he had hoped, however, and adjusting to his new home felt more like a step back than forwards to the ambitious Valentine. When the new Boss Elphaba Revlis's decree that all slaves of the Thistle Kingdom should become indentured servants, Cleome saw fit to free Amalthea and thus ridding himself from her constant need for attention. Even then, he was still not content there. Restless, he would often join travelling groups coming and going from the trading city, and at one time took the journey back to Ame Rouge to visit his family there. On his way back, he saved the life of a wandering healer and moonshiner, Basil-Roy Desjardins. The stranger followed him to Portland, and Cleome found him to be easy company and a balm to his troubled mind. After an attack to a caravan left Cleome injured and with an infected wound on his leg, Basil-Roy helped to nurse Cleome back to health, making their life debts even. The stranger denied his invitation for joining Salsola, which didn't bode well for their friendship as being too close to an Outsider could reflect badly on him.

Eventually, the strain of holding himself back from his ambitions started to wear on him, and after a visit from Helena Troy Lykoi, Cleome finally had enough and returned to Salsola, and inviting Basil-Roy to join him on the journey. Having returned to the Thistle Kingdom, Cleome now finds himself rather lost and unfocused but willing to take his time to find his footing again.

Appearance

Essentials The young Valentine is tall and willowy, built with elegance and grace. What muscles there are in his shoulders and limbs are sinewy and slim, and don't call too much attention. The wolfishly narrow chest follows him to his Optime form and accentuates his hips, giving him the appearance of a feminine waist. Medium brown fur covers all his body, save his bushy tail and Optime mane, which he keeps long on the top of his head, falling in deep brown curls over his forehead. Wisps of wavy fur follow the back of his head in a mix of shades of brown. He often accents his striking magenta eyes with whatever matching accessories can be found - though he has a preference for wildflowers. He often wears one tucked behind his ear, or a crown of smaller, colourful blooms, if not just pinning them to his curls by the stems. Humanization: High Wears several outfits, some made by himself, mixes and matches his collection of bracelets and bangles and earrings, literate, has a deep appreciation for arts in general. Clothing: Has many outfits, some of his own design and making. Favours light and loose clothing, especially so he can layer them together, leggings and shorts. On a furrier of thicker necked canine, they probably would disappear, but they really shine against his sleek form. Most of them are of common or recyled material, but he wears them like they are the finest gold and pearls. 102 lbs (46 kg) 34 in (86 cm) Lupus Used during his free time, especially when taking a stroll to enjoy the scenery or for the exercise. Sometimes lounges on his home in this form, or cuddles with his rabbits.

220 lbs (100 kg) 42 in (107 cm) Secui Hardly ever sees the need to take this form, finding it too bulky and brutish. His slim legs grow much longer than thicker, chest broadens slightly, and his mane grows along his neck and head in the start of messy curls.

240 lbs (109 kg) 6 ft, 7 in (200 cm) Optime (Preferred) Takes this form most of his time, especially when working. His dextrexity and control on this form is quite enviable, despite not using it for combat but for performance.

Cleome is genuinely a bit of a submissive lad, but his gentle and sweet attitude may make people be a bit dismissive of him, so he tends to play it up to mask when he's trying to get an upper hand in some way, but mostly when sweetening up a trading deal. He has a very discerning eye and cunning mind, and can usually tell when someone is trying to swindle him with lesser goods. He has a vain streak, tending to his appearance as meticulously as any of his crafts; even when he's dirty with flour or with a wisp of hair untucked, it seems planned and meant to only enhance his looks. The boy acts and looks like he's performing all the time.

He has a very sensitive ego, and the smallest of compliments or acknowledgement can send it sky-high, and usually show in his straighter posture and sip on his step. On the other hand, a dismissal or harsh critique can feel like a stab to it, even if the one doing the critiquing is himself, which happens often. His wounded pride usually motivates him to try harder, a fierce intensity in his eyes until he's satisfied. Has some streaks of perfectionism, which sometimes cripples him to a bundle of nerves pacing around and muttering how 'it's not enough, not enough'.

His vanity also makes him enjoy deeply the game to seduction; it doesn't have to be on the sexual side of it. Just the feeling of knowing he's tipping someone's decision or opinion through his words and gestures is enough to give him a rush of triumph. He keeps that part of himself hidden behind lock and key, knowing it could be used against him. He also has a deep respect and love for all things that are subtle and effemerous, always marveling at the delicate beauty of them that most people ignore of don't notice.

Biases Non-Luperci: Why anyone would deprive themselves from the joys of having hands is completely beyond him. Immune canines are as pitiful as handicapped people in his eyes. Gender: Finds females superior to men, and is slightly jealous of them for having more freedom to study magic. Sexuality: Detests anyone who views him 'lesser' or 'broken' or whatever other pejorative words, for finding feminine clothing and works more comforting and fitting for himself. Religion: Finds atheists and agnostics extremely uncivilized and soulless, and has a hard time even trying ot comprehend their reasoning. There clearly is a higher power, and those who don't recognize them are fools and undeserving of his time. Sexuality 3 on the Kinsey scale: "Equally heterosexual and homosexual" Cleome is more deeply attracted to typically masculine people, but can feel attraction towards pretty much anyone, regardless of gender or sex. Demigirl: Cleome, despite assigned male at birth, associates more with "female" than "male", but not enough to want to identify as a woman. That said, since the concept of transfeminine is beyond his scope of knowledge and vocabulary, he does not bother himself with labels. He continues to use male pronouns and identify as male. If called a woman, he'd probably just raise an eyebrow and correct the other person and go on with his life. Substances Drinks socially, especially if it's good. If not, he'll drink just enough to be polite. Smokes tobacco on occasion and when it's available; has never smoked marijuana. Has used "holy" wines to induce dreams and visions in Ame Rouge, but haven't sought other kinds of hallucinogens. Spirituality Syncretism Cleome has a habit for finding tidbits of all kinds of beliefs and religions and find a way to mix them together. He holds many superstitions that may seem silly to some but are very serious to him. One of his main fascinations with magic is the mutiple types of divinations, and their subtle meanings and interpretations. His earliest dabbling into mantic arts was with cards and dices, but usually he keeps his studies secret and private, still holding onto the predujices of his birthpack, that only females are allowed to delve into magic. Believes in all manner of mythological creatures, ghosts, spirits, demons and devils, curses and spells, and so on.
